I got a little oily residue on my hood here. It looks like it might be a little wet near the coolant hose & throttle body area. I also have the H&S Intercooler pipe kit installed. Not sure how long this residue has been there, but it is still wet, so its not all hardened. Maybe it's just loose intercooler pipe bolts?
View 7 RepliesLong story short I am working on an engine that was already dismantled (down to the heads). I am trying to figure out why someone tore the engine down. Vehicle is a recovered theft and it was recovered with all parts.
I removed the exhaust manifolds from the heads to start cleaning them up and replacing the exhaust bolts (rust). When I removed the exhaust manifolds the front two cylinders on the right side (1 and 3) were oily wet. The back two cylinders were sooty and normal. The front cylinder (2) on the left side was not as bad but did have a oily film on top of the valve and valve stem. I do not see any indication of anti freeze or coolant.
I looked at the head gasket and could feel a oil film between layers on 1 and 3. No oil on 2 that I could detect. I'm thinking there was a head gasket problem but not totally convinced. The cylinders and pistons look good from the top and the cylinders still show the cross hatch honing. No ridge on the top of the cylinder either. The motor has 122k miles on it.
Other than head gasket would there be something in common that could feed oil to those cylinders? I have eliminated the turbo. There is no oily film on any intake runners. It could just be a blown head gasket but it is not obvious if it is.
I have a 2006 6.0 with 165,000 miles. No over heating runs fine ,no smoke but I have oily foam in my degas bottle. No coolant in my oil. Scratching my head over this.
View 14 RepliesI have this problem code P0405. At fist it come up with a turbo under boost. I have replaced the Turbo and egr valve and I still have the P0405. I did notice a oily residual in the port for the egr valve I see no deference in coolant. She idles good I just have no power when I put it in gear to move.
View 3 RepliesMy wife's 03 wagon has developed this weird problem. I keep the car pretty clean, always clean the inside windows a couple of times a month. We always defrost with the A/C on, no recirc.
We had the car in the body shop for some front end damage. Ever since then the front and side windows seem to have this oily residue on them. The stuff will not come off. Tried Invisible Glass, my usual cleaner. Really awful to see at night.
If the heater core was leaking under the carpet, could this cause it? or if the sunroof drains were clogged? I also changed the cabin filter with an aftermarket one from a vortex vendor.
Basically, I wash the car myself. I wash with a soft spongy brush and exterior car wash fluid.
Now at the bottom areas (near the skirts and just lower bumper) and also some lower part of the doors, I notice stains that look brown in color and they don't disappear by me just using the spongy cleaner. It got to a point where I used my nail on the greasy bugger (the spots are small but annoying looking, barely a millimeter in diameter), and it spreads and becomes a light brown in color. I have to use my nails to get these buggers out and at some times there's tons of them based on the weather and the driving conditions.
OK, well i have an old toyota pick up, One of the spark plugs ( the third cylinder) has some oily residue on it, indicating a problem with the piston. How bad could this be? Is it worth it to try and have fixed? I also am rebuilding my carb right now, so i am wondering if i is even worth continuing if the engine is messed up.

View 1 RepliesMy 2011 F350 - 6.7 has developed this KRAZY thump, snap noise under the hood, loud enough to be heard inside the cab, and I cannot find out what the heck it is. It is not directly connected to the motor, you can rev it and the noise does not change. the thump is like, every few seconds or so, especially when the motor is cold. I am afraid this is a 2000 dollar noise and the truck is out of warranty.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2011 f250 6.7, I park under my house everyday, so I am used to weird noises coming from my truck when I shut it off, but now that I just did a dpf and egr delete, and tuner, I noticed that my tuner doesn't shut down until the noise under the hood stops, which takes a few minutes to stop, I use to hear the air valve on the egr cooler shut when every got quiet, but I don't remember it lasting this long, any one else have a H&S mini max and it doesn't shut down right away? the place where I bought my mini maxx said it should shut down as soon as your head lights go out, but that's not the case, the headlights go out long before this noise stops and the tuner powers off
View 10 RepliesI have a friend with a 2012 Kings Ranch and when the key is turned on, prior to starting there is a loud pronounced whine from under the hood. It has begun doing it even when it is started. What it could be. I thought maybe a fuel pump going bad, etc.
View 14 RepliesJust noticed a sound of air sucking sound under the hood on heavy acceleration only, the harder I push the louder it gets. Either sucking or hissing sound. I feel no difference in driving. No loss of power or anything else. Just the sound of air coming out like a leaking air line. I will check later this afternoon if its affecting my turbo boost. I have 235000 klms on the clock
View 5 RepliesYesterday as I was getting on the freeway , and I was really laying into the throttle, I all of a sudden started hearing the turbo hiss on the drivers side of under the hood. This new noise is not going away.
It only starts to make the hiss noise starting at 7-8 psi and up. It is very loud in the cab with the windows up when it creates boost. I checked the up pipe connection to the turbo from my y-pipe, it is sealed really good.
There is NO loss of power, No exhaust smell at all. Just a loud hissing sound on the drivers side of the engine bay and ONLY when I press the go-go pedal.
I have also re-tightened the CAC tube boots as well.
Just pu my new 2013 6.7 Diesel with 1300 miles... There is a most annoying whining coming from under the hood and sound like its coming from the secondary filter area or turbo (you can even feel it if you put your hand on the filter lines and housing) and it starts a minute or so after the vehicle has been running and you can her in the cab at 70-mph... At drive through restaurants I have to shut the tk down to place my order and never goes away..

I have a 2003 f350 6.0. awhile back i was driving down the road and it died. popped the hood and there was a small amount of oil sprayed on the hood. rocker arm bolt had broke. that's been replaced and no it won't start. cranks and acts like it will what to fire for a second then it just cranks and does nothing. reading the tech on no start issues theres a lot to look at.
View 6 RepliesHad Just replaced glow plugs and batteries along with a new set of tires. Truck had been running fine for the three days that is was. Went out the next morning and went to start and "POP" a large noise came from under the hood. I have yet to discover where this noise particularly came from or what it may have been that caused it. But ever since the POP it will not turnover what so ever. Key on every thing is normal all power just when go to turn key over it makes a faint click. You can feel the click in the relays on your hand when you try to turnover. But nothing. I am absolutely clueless.

I just finished replacing my HPOP (Adrenaline Pump from Diesel Site) and fired the truck up and its making a hissing sound from the rear of the motor back by the turbo almost sounds like a tire leaking and its loud enough to hear over the engine. The truck is running and idling good but it doesn't seem to be quite 100% when I step on it.
View 10 RepliesOkay so 2007 F350 DWR here, I have a driver who hauls loads using the truck and a 25' gooseneck trailer. She's gone through the bullet proofing process at 80K miles, she now has 128K miles. I have a programmer to monitor temps, and do all required maintenance.
With that said, my driver reported last week that when under load and going up hills he got the white spray coming out from under the hood. See pics below, this is never really good of course but I want to believe its not catastrophic. Two weeks prior I changed out the thermostat and upper radiator hose and of course flushed and filled coolant, all was good - no hoses were loose, etc. Driver reports the truck did not overheat at any time.
Both ECT and EOT are within 10-12 degrees of each other, and did not go over 190 for me while driving around town the other day. There are no codes present, I cleaned the engine bay and drove and re-inspected but can't tell where the coolant is coming from as none appears to be leaking. Last note, I have to admit after driving for a day or two I had to fill the degas bottle up about 3/4 gallon of water. My questions is, what is the next step for me in the diagnostic process?

I've got a strange squeal sound coming from under the hood only when truck is cold? It sounds like a bearing and after it gets heated up the sound stops. I talked with a guy thats a cummins guy and he said he had a similar issue and he had to replace the bearing in the turbo? Also when truck is warm it will still do it, like for instance, if I run in a store and truck idles for 5-10 mins it will do it only if I romp on it for a short while like 2-3 mins then again goes away. And if I'm idling or in neutral, hot/cold, it does not do it, it seems to be only under a load. Pull a 26 foot boat no problems.
What could be making the strange pumping sound coming from under my hood after I shut off the truck?? It sounds like a small compressor or pump running.

Truck started blowing the # 8 fuse under the hood tonight (15 amp #8 - trailer tow electronic brake illumination, park lamps, trailer tow park lamp relay coil fuse) which also controls the dash board lights (can't see gauges at night) and the tail light lights (brakes lights work) are out too. Figure I have a short somewhere.
