Recently my brother in laws truck started making a buzzing sound while running and a much louder sound after it shuts off. Trying to track down the sound. Listen to the whole video because the end is where it gets loud.

Been noticing it more recently. After shutting truck down I would say 15-30 seconds after some type of pump or solenoid starts running and does so for another 30 seconds or so ( from the frontnofmthentruck). What this might be? Also have noticed it just once after starting I was walking around the front of the truck and heard this buzzing sound once again.
View 6 RepliesAfter engine is up to temperature the engine has a buzzing/whining sound just at idle. Pick up rpms and its gone. They thought it was comeing from the oil filter and changed the filter and it disappeared for a while but its back again.
Very hard to pinpoint the sound even with a styphiscope. Going back to dealer.
2004 f350 after i shut the truck off something was buzzing. So I popped the hood and found its the injector harness or injectors.Is this normal or something I need to look into?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2008 Kia Rondo. Recently we took a trpi. Halfway there, we started to hear a humming/buzzing sound (similar to that of a remote control airplane). It was the loudest when we would stop at a stop light/sign, but would stop when the car was put into park. The noise grew louder and louder as the drive went on. The noise was coming from the front region of the car, but couldn't decipher exactly where. We were able to hear it from the inside of the car as well as the outside. The noise stopped once we reached our destination, but then started back up again on the way back home. Once home, it stopped again and our auto shop couldn't find anything wrong with it. What it could be. Hasn't done it since we've been home. Wondering if driving through the mountains put stress on it. What could be making that noise?
View 4 RepliesI cant recall if these sounds were there when i first bought the car, probably because i have the radio on most times. I think the buzzing sounds were present in the last month at least.
After i start up my car and even after idling for a while, i hear a buzzing sound coming from the engine. It gets louder when I accelerate. When I let go of the gas, the buzzing sound lags for a few seconds and then quiets down a little bit, but still can hear it in the background.
I lifted the hood up to listen more closely. I am not totally sure, but i think i can also hear a faint hissing sound ( sounds like leaking air?). I cant pinpoint where it is, but its around the engine.
I also notice that when I am idle, the MPG number in the dashboard is dropping fairly quickly. Like 0.1 mpg every 20 seconds. This is new and started today. I last drove it 4 days ago and didn't notice it happening then and i watch the mpg very closely every time i drive. Could there possibly be some gas leak?
I've recently picked up a new noise. At idle the engine buzzes. It sounds like the vacuum pump running but coming from the engine (the vacuum pump is not running while this noise is happening). This noise could also be happening while I'm driving too but the RPMs bring up the engine noise so I can't tell. Nothing looks out of the ordinary and I haven't done anything different that would give me any direction (no off-roading). It was just there one day.
The truck doesn't seem to be running any differently (right now), just the buzzing. I just want to catch it if it's going to become something serious. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (not to mention the towing bill!).
I have a 98 ford explorer just changed the alternator and now its running rough also it sounds louder than normal from the muffler. I am clueless, what the problem can be?
View 7 RepliesI have had a 2000 f250 crew cab for little over a year now. Two previous times, after heavy rains, the cabin light would blink on and i would get a buzzing sound under the dash. I would solve the annoying buzzing sound by opening and closing the door. After a few times, it would work, but my clock and radio could go on without the key in the on position. The next time i used it, no problems... so i put that worry in the back of my mind.
This morning it rained really heavy, sideways type of rain. I opened the door and noticed a small puddle on the vinyl floors right where my left foot goes. OH,oh i thought, but the truck turned over and ran like normal. I picked up a heavy load of hickory in the bed and hopped back in and noticed my speedometer jumping from 0- 30 when I was going about 35. The OD light was blinking, but the transmission shifted normally. I got up to about 1700 rpm and the speedo was barely jumping at 53-55. I make another stop to unload the wood and go back home and i get an intermittent buzzing sound on the way home and no speedo. OD light would start blinking before i hit 2nd gear. I also noticed the odometer not working (speedo related, right?)
I got home and took the fuse relay cover off and found that if I would remove the #1 relay "plug" (black square box 5 prongs) that dreaded buzzing sound would go away, checked it out , plugged it back in, buzzing back on. The clock light still stays on and radio will turn on without the key. I think that water obviously leaked in over something electrical and i have been searching this and other forms for a couple of hours. I am within a couple of weeks of saving up enough to buy the gauges, exhaust and possible DP Tuner and now this happens?
After disassembling what felt like the whole front end of the truck, I finally gain access to the danged thing. Mine has been acting up intermittently for about year and half I guess. When flipping to switch to signal turning, it started making a buzzing sound. At first it was doing it most of the time. Then it cleared up and started working right for several months, then act up, the act right. Well, now it makes the buzzing noise more often than not so i decided to address it. I went to Oreilly, they didn't have one, but told me the part number.
I went across the street to Autozone, that had one on the shelf that was same part number as Oreilly. I put it in and when flipping the switch, the relay does it tick tock sounds like its working, except for there is no indication on the dash cluster that its working, nor are the actual lights working. I swap back to original and buzzing, put in new one and tick tock but no lights. Whats the deal? Is this one of those things that you have to go back to Ford? Or maybe i got a bum relay from parts house and should exchange for another to see if it works?
I've been having an electrical issue for the past few months that I've decided to address now that the weather is getting a little warmer.
What happened is the left turn signal was blinking fast, so I assumed bad bulb, and later that day it stopped blinking fast and now I press the lever down to indicate a left turn and there is a quite loud buzzing sound. Sounds like it's coming from where the relays are, but I've replaced them and the bulbs and still nothing has changed.
I've also replaced the multifunction switch to see if that was an issue, but a new one did the same thing so I returned it.
Running lights work all around, but now there are no left blinkers, and also my left brake light doesn't come on. Pulling a trailer I have the same problem, I had the plug tested and only 3 of the pins have anything to them.
I know nothing about auto electrical systems.
It only happens on a very Rare occasion.
When Cold, and when I start out as I open the throttle, it suddenly sounds like there is not a piece of quieting stuff on the engine. I mean its like I can hear right into the engine itself.
I back off, It goes away then I dont hear it again for another Month or two.
So I have just over 14k on my 2015....... I love the truck but have had a few small issues. I had a water leak coming in from the roof that would leak through the grab handle. Nothing major dealer replaced one clearance light seal and they said the windshield needs to be re sealed.
Then I had a god awful irritating squeak in the dash..... It only does it late In the day when it's been hot. The dealer said it was a loose air bag. I have had the truck back a week and it's doing it again.
Those are little issues that will get resolved...... I hate having problems with a brand new vehicle but I understand it happens and that's what warranty is for.
I also reported a bad shake to the dealer...... The truck will shake very violently and have a very loud "diesel" sound. It's very specific at when it occurs. It has only done 4 times in the past 6 weeks including today. The odd thing is the 4 times it has done it has been the same time of day in the exact same spot on the exact same road!!!!
Basically I leave my office sit in some traffic and by the time I get to the parkway it has been35 minutes or so. Only happens in 6th at 60 which is roughly 1,400rpm a slight load due to a small incline and it shakes real bad! The typical "diesel" sound you get when under a load is very pronounced almost to a knock. It will continue to do this as you slowly increase throttle until it down shifts and then goes away. I also caught it doing it and I manually shifted to 5th and it went away.
Because of the rpm at which it happens with slight load only doing it in 6th I lean to a Trans issue and more so a converter problem. It feels like converter shutter. I just don't understand the engine sound.
I gave very descriptive info to the dealer..... Several techs drove it and could not duplicate. I just picked the truck back up last Thursday and the dash squeak is back and the shake happened yesterday and again today. So I am a bit irritated to say the least.
I really hate the fact that I know there is a problem but I also understand if a tech can't duplicate it he can't diagnose it. However today I did get a video of it with my phone so they will know I'm not making this crap up!
New to the 6 liter powerstroke recently upgraded from my 7.3. Recently this odd whistle sound started and I can't quite seem to fogure out the cause. At first it only happened if I was going 70 mph and now it will do it anytime it builds more than 15lbs of boost. I tried tightening some clamps and stuff but that did nothing.

Last transmission service - unknown (I have owed the truck for 3,000 miles). I just acquired a clunking sound when shifting from R to P or R to N. No noise from N to D or lower or back up to D. It does not grind into gear, just clunks one time. It is rather loud.
All shifting while driving is normal, no slipping, or noise. This occurs on level ground, at operating temp, and +-650 RPMs.
Fluid level is okay. No strange odor. What will be the next steps to investigate?
Well, get the engine running sound, then the drivetrain takes a crap on me. . . On my way home, about 60mph. Hear a noise from front drivers side. Gets to the point where I think I am losing a tire. Got out and checked the lugs, all clear. Got back in and the truck wouldn't move. Shifted thru all the gears, nothing.
Revved up to 1500rpm and it just sits there and shakes, like it wants to go but can't. No grinding or anything. Got a tow truck and as we were loading it, noticed that the front axle was rolling fine, but the rear was dragging. Tried it in N and D and it still wasn't rolling. Also observed drips on the flatbed and the drain plug on the transfer case was wet.
Praying that it is transmission, cuz I can just have them come get it and have it repaired under warranty. Heck its only got about 3500 miles on it. If its the hat to check? Ill be spending the rest of my evening on YT/Google. . . (Figured this was the right area to post this, cuz its a 99 7.3, I didn't see a dedicated drivetrain area so. . . )
it's now 1,500 miles away on the side of the road.White smoke, knocking and lost power. Truck has 133,000 reman engine installed at 46,000. Is it common for hydro locking to bend a rod? He sent a video and it def sounds like a rod and degas is empty.
View 9 RepliesMy 2001 Prius makes this sound when the engine is running. All the battery lights are on all the time, I think it needs a new HV battery but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Perhaps the other battery is faulty I really don't know. All the engine lights are on and if the brake light comes on it starts shaking or the power steering fails or it just completely shuts off on the road no lights no power steering nothing. When that happens I use a battery booster that I keep in my trunk to get it going again but it's really dangerous to drive now.
View 3 RepliesMy truck will intermittently sound like an old 7.3 clattering away. It's done this for some time now. If I accelerate briskly it'll quiet down. When I first got it (used) it was quiet as a church mouse. It seems to normally be during the 1st 20min or so of a run. Weather and fuel doesn't seem to be a factor nor does it matter whether I have additive in the tank or not. My truck is a May '10 build 2011 with about 60k miles on it now.
Is this normal? Same 7.3 noise from the 6.7?
My 2011 is making a strange humming sound after shutdown. It seems to be related to the normal waste gate sound. I have a video....
View 12 RepliesBack again.. I just replaced the HPOP and IPR valve on my truck a few weeks ago. While the turbo was out I cleaned it and applied a small amount of anti seize on the unison ring. When installing the turbo I had moved the y-pipe a little to get the turbo in place. About a week after it was running again I started to get a squealing noise under acceleration. The noise isn't a whistle like the turbo but an actual squeal. Its a little bit louder than the turbo whistle. If I am in park and rev the engine it doesn't happen. It only happens when I accelerate and seems to be when there is boost. If I let off the gas pedal the noise stops. I don't have an issue with making boost. I did replace the turbo boot when it was apart a few weeks ago so I don't think that is the problem I checked the y-pipe clamp and down-pipe clamp and both are fine. I replaced the serpentine belt this past weekend and checked all pulleys, they were all very good with no play. Another thing, the pitch of the noise seems to change with rpm's too. What could be causing this type of noise?
