In the past I've had truck batteries last close up to 9 years but at 59 months one of my batteries is not looking that great. The battery status indicator is red. I checked the level of the side that appears to be leaking and it's ok. I've had no issues with starting and it seems to crank over just as fast as when new.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 6.7 with 16000 miles and it just turned 5 years old.Yesterday had hood up and notice driver side battery eye indicator was red, other battery was showing green, truck turned over and started fine. 15 degrees out this morning, truck started fine.Truck hasn't been ran for a couple weeks.What does the red indicate,battery needs charged or time for new batteries?
View 6 RepliesOK, I've had this truck one month now, and I like it. I think a full-blown analog DEF gauge (a la Dodge) is silly - it doesn't change that much. But I would like to go into a menu somewhere and simply be able to get a reading (90% remaining, 77% remaining, 15% remaining, etc., etc.) From what I understand the 'system check' function will tell you if the level is below half, or just about empty, and nothing else.
Finally, the DPF. Why can't we see EGT on the "gauge" screen which shows tranny and oil temps? Why can't it tell us what % the DPF is filled? When a passive regen is happening? And at the very least, when an active regen is finished?
As a side question, can the high idle control (SEIC) be actuated in any way other than the upfitter switches, which my truck does not have? I understand RAM trucks can press and hold the cruise control or something to activate it.
Just got a 2008. The Hybrid Battery Status indicator on the display is usually yellow. it will sometimes switch to blue. I assumed that yellow was the correct color but after reading some posts here it seems that they should be blue.
View 5 RepliesIn the last couple of days my battery light comes on after about 30 mins of steady driving. I have no starting issues as of late. Batteries have been tested under load and checked out okay. Alternator is a few months old. Other than the battery light coming on there no other
problems, yet. Is my alternator over charging? A couple of month ago my truck would shut off when I turned a/c or heater on in the mornings. My alternator was over charging. After I replaced it I had no more problems. Could any of this be related to the life time led bulbs that I'm using?
The dreaded "water in fuel" indicator is on! I'm traveling an hour south of me in the blizzard and the WIF indicator goes on. I immediately pull over and crawl under the truck to find the wiring to the sensor disconnected!!!(I just had Ford service the vehicle Monday!) I plug it back in and no change. After 50 miles or so the truck goes into reduced power mode. I get home and ride out the storm. After cleaning up the snow I get under the truck and disconnect, clean, and re-install connector on the sensor. Drain fuel from bowl.....not a drop of water. Restart truck...still no change. I know there's no water but now what?

View 4 RepliesSo for 4500 miles since new my truck has been displaying, on the right side of the instrument display in the center dash, the actual gear the truck is in. I would shift from park to drive and move out and the truck would display what gear it was in by placing a lighted box around the gear number as it shifted 1-6. Now that display is gone. It's not anywhere. If I go to the manual mode it will display that, but the normal numbers from 1-6 , bottom to top , are gone.

View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Passat 2.0T with 5000 miles. I love the car, handling, comfort, power, refinement and all related but had a big shock when I went to the VW dealer for 5000 mile check. The service tech said my car had a optional computer software upgrade to regulate the intake valve (mostly to keep it from sticking open). I thought it was fine to do the upgrade EXCEPT when he said that if I did the upgrade , I would lose the gear indicator lights on the center dash between the speedo and tach! .....so, I would no longer have visual indication of Park, reverse etc....or indication of 1,2,3,4,5,6 for the tiptronic tranny mode. Why or if you have been able to do the software upgrade for the intake valve, WITHOUT losing the the indicator lights on the dash?
View 24 RepliesMy battery light has been coming on and then going off, just back and forth, for a few days now. The light stays on about 80% of the time. I have new batteries and the alternator is about three years old. I've checked the voltage from the alternator to the batteries while the light is on and I'm getting 13.85 volts on the multimeter. I've checked and cleaned terminals just to be sure they are corrosion free and right, I've checked the ground to make sure it's right.
View 1 RepliesI charged the batteries fully, new alternator put in and checked grounds. Light was off, but while driving to work it came back on again and stays on. Battery voltage is 14.2 on each at idle and 13.4 while engine and key off. Maybe the two prong connector needs to be replaced?
View 10 RepliesRunning down the road today and the battery light came on. Went on and off intermittently as I drive home and the tuner showed 11.5v. Got home, shut it off (didn't mean to) and restarted it. Tested voltage at the batteries and was over 14. Need to take it for a drive and see if it repeats.
View 14 RepliesI have 51k on my 2014 Platinum F-350 and the little red battery light come on. I take it in and they tell me that it is going to be a little over $1,300.00 to replace my alternator. I have had the truck since May 30, 2014 and the alternator has gone bad. I am regretting trading in my 1999 F-350 with over 365 k on it. Never had an electrical problem besides replacing the batteries every 4 years or so. Is this a common problem on these new trucks?

View 4 RepliesMy battery light is coming on in the mornings for up to about 14 miles. I am showing 13.2 to 13.6 volts with torque pro. The light hardly ever comes on in the afternoon, but sometimes. I had the batteries and alternator tested yesterday at Advance Auto parts. Alternator showed good both times they tested it. Batteries showed at or just above their rated cranking amps. I have inspected both negative grounds from the batteries, the engine ground from the firewall to the passenger side back side of the engine, and the body ground on the passenger side to the frame. They look great, tight, and have not moved in a long time. I added a cable from the alternator to the fender well and it showed about 7 amps while idling before dropping to about 4.5 amps. I am thinking of still buying a new alternator anyway. That is the only think I can think of. Worse case, I just have a spare in the back of the truck.
