Changed fuel filters today. Now my water in fuel light is coming on. But the truck is not running any different no sputtering or anything. ????? Could this be human error
View 14 RepliesI was going to change the fuel filter on my truck yesterday, but couldn't figure out how the guard comes off. It has a bolt but it also has a rivet in it and looks like its all one piece so Id have to drill the rivet to remove. I tried to just spin the housing off.
View 8 RepliesNoticed change in power after changing the fuel filters on 6.7 .... Seems like it has a fuel restriction at times maybe even air somewhere in the line. Thought I felt the truck hesitate after hitting the gas and Cavitating when I hit the gas petal. Both new filters are motorcraft parts. I did follow the procedure after installing filters by turning the key on 6 times waiting 30 seconds in between. Could it be a problem with the fuel pump. I should say I didn't have this until I changed the primary filter.
View 9 RepliesI changed the fuel filters today and saw a couple of small pieces of what looked like aluminum or aluminum foil in the bottom. Nothing in the filter itself it still looked good. I will try to post pictures later but I'm not sure it will show up. I don't recall seeing anything the first filter change and this is the second. Is this normal?
View 2 RepliesDuring a heavy rain the "water in fuel, drain filter" warning came on. I drained the filter like suggested and a water bottle full of water drained out. This is less then a week after I had the titan fuel tank installed. After I drained the fluid I restarted the engin and "reduce power an water in fuel" warning came on. I am 250 miles from the nearest ford dealer. How major is this???

View 5 RepliesFor the last four months my 04 F350 has been having the same problem every now and then. Cruising down the highway at a decent speed and the fuel pedal/fuel shuts off. Only lasts seconds then re-engages. Two lights come on. Low fuel and water in fuel. I changed the internal fuel pump last week and it did it again tonight. The truck runs great otherwise except for an occasional death shake while stopped at a light. No codes came up and FICM is at 54.

Only thing i have done different is Monday this week i put in some hot shot diesel fuel additive to try with stiction. Dothe additive is the cause of the light to come on?
View 2 RepliesNot another dumb "water in fuel" post... I had the warning light come on the other day, so I got under to drain the filter. Not much water came out before the diesel, but I let some diesel drain anyway to be sure. What was strange though, was the electrical connection was off. I must have hit something somehow and pulled it out? What I'm wondering, because of the little water that came out of the filter, would the light have come on from the plug getting pulled out?

View 3 RepliesSo I am happily driving my 2011 F250 Powerstroke and the water in fuel light comes on. I drain the filter and drive about 10 miles and it happens again. Drain again and 5 miles later the engine dies. Had it towed to my dealer who found an exploded high pressure diesel injection pump. They talked to Ford and found out that they needed to install an all new fuel system from the injectors to the tank! The bill was 18,000 and no warrantee. Bad stuff gets right by the filters!!! I have two of those trucks and since the dealer used exactly the same parts as the broken ones, it can happen today again.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 f250 with 120k. I am having trouble getting the water in fuel light off. I drainned the water out and replaced both filters and the fuel water sensor. The check engine light is now on and the water in fuel light is as well. I'm stumped and can't figure out what to do next. Will the check engine light come on as well with the water in fuel light or is it two different problems?

View 12 RepliesWell I finally had time to change out my composite oil pan to the metal one. Nothing was wrong with the old one but Ive seen the composite pans get hit by a rock and crack so I decide to get the metal one. It didnt take long once I had the oil drained and its very easy to get to. Once i had the old pan off I did find two piece of sludge stuck to the oil pickup screen, they had a sliver of aluminum in them. My oil reports have been coming back with high aluminum content so I am not really sure what to think being my motor had 33k miles on it now.
I also changed out the fuel filter and when I dropped the frame mounted filter I found about a teaspoon of rust in it. I'm not one to run my truck down to E but I admit I did so twice since the last filter change. Since I found the fuel filter kit for 60 buck(ford dealer wanted $140) I think I will move my fuel filter changes to 10k miles instead of 15k. Last but not least I also added SPE 6.7 Full Lock Diff Kit which allows the locked rear end to stay engaged past 20 mph. It was a simple 10 min installation with just a few wires and easy directions to follow

While driving from SD to Chicago today 2 warnings popped up at the same time saying to change the oil and fuel filters. Had both done 2500 miles ago. Am I right that the Dealer just didn't reset these? I thought these were measured by miles and driving habits.

View 8 RepliesWhile I was changing the oil yesterday, I also changed the fuel filters. The primary filter had some debris that was confirmed by a magnet to be metal. I have seen a little bit of this all three times I have changed the filters. The filter itself is very clean, but there remains a small amount of metal slightly more coarse than filings.
I don't really have any concerns that it could be coming from the HPFP because that is after the secondary filter and would not be returned to the tank. Also anything from the HPFP would have fouled several injectors by now. I don't even think there is any iron in the pump.
I guess it could be useful to put a magnet in the water separator reservoir, but I don't even know what good that would do since the debris is large enough that it is being caught by the filter and of course the secondary filter is even less microns. It would just be nice to know where in the world this stuff comes from.
Changed my filters and this was in the bottom of the filter housing. I looked on the pleats and down in the center didn't find anything. Went to two Ford diesel techs one said is was the hpfp and should do the the whole fuel system. The other said if the hpfp was coming apart the shaving would not be in the bottom of bowl and to check the filter again in 5k miles. No check engine light, drives great, no other problems.
View 14 RepliesReplaced both fuel filters same as usual. Cranked right up and I let her run while I put up the tools and look for leaks. Notice it started running rough, so I jumped in and started to back out of carport and it went dead. Ran battery down and it won't hit a lick. Replacement (racor) filter same as last few changes. Running just fine before change so it has to be something simple, but what?
