Any recommendations on brake calipers and hose?

View 14 RepliesA few weeks back my rear drivers side wheel started smoking severely...when I stopped you could smell the brake material, feel the heat coming from the wheel, and lots of smoke. I speculated it was the parking brake that got hung up. I jiggled that cable around and then went around the block - no issue. Note: I did not leave the parking brake on.
It happened again a week later, but not as bad. I took it into the dealer today. They said heat was evident as it burned off a sticker on the disk or caliper hsg area. They have not determined yet if it is parking brake or caliper?
Got home today and smelled the "oil burning" smell. Blue smoke, didn't smell like brake pads. The smoke was evident from the right rear wheel. Put her in the garage and pulled the wheel. By the time this was done there was no smoke and no fluid anywhere, but there may not have been when it was smoking either. The drum was hot, the axle housing was not hot until closer to the drum/disc/wheel. The differential was slightly warm. Vent was not plugged. No obvious accumulation of lube or fluid on the inside of the wheel. Plenty of disc pad left. The actuator for the emergency brake that sticks out the back of the brake/plate assembly was super hot.
If I decide to pull the hub/rotor to inspect the brake shoes am I getting in far enough to commit to doing a full hub/bearing/seal inspect replacement? I'm getting old enough to pay a shop for this stuff and save my back, but if it's a no-brainer repair to get new seals I'd like to do it and save some bucks. Might as well do both sides right?
I'll be driving cross-country in June with a slide-in camper and want it done rather than a band aid job. It's never been checked before. 2006 F350 -- 150k miles. I'll keep searching the forum for answers but would like some opinions...
2004 F250 6.0L!!
An issue I noticed right off the bat was that whenever I had the driver side turn signal on, and the brake was applied, the turn signal freezes.
I took apart the tail light and found a concoction of wires...I posted a diagram illustrating what it looks like.
There is this pesky Red wire that is spliced into the tail light bulb socket wire (specifically the green wire).
There is a trailer brake installed...if this means anything. I've tried disconnecting that with no luck on fixing the issue.
How to further troubleshoot would be great...electrical work is not my forte!
I have a 2006 F250 with the rear driver side window that goes down but not up. I bought a new regulator and hooked it up to power before going through the trouble of removing the old one. It traveled down and wouldn't go up. The switch is working because I have power to it and thru it. What it might be?
View 5 RepliesI have developed a leak coming from the top, driver side, rear of my engine and I could not figure out where it was coming from. I took it to a reputable shop for diagnosis and they tell me that the rear leak is coming from the transmission lines.
The weird thing is I never thought the leak looked like ATF. They also told me that it looks like the stock radiator/cooler has been bypassed so I have no cooler.
Should I assume that the stock internal cooler failed and that is why the PO bypassed it? Also is there a decent write up on deleting these lines and running soft transmission lines to a aftermarket cooler?
I had a brake line crack on my way home yesterday(that was interesting..) It was the drivers side rear metal line from the splitter to the rubber hose. I went to autozone and was like ok easy enough this line is the same length and appeared to be the same diameter. bend to fit and all was well or not.. the fitting on the end was a different thread pitch and size. 1999 f250 4wd if it matters....
View 4 RepliesMy left side rear blinker/ brake light is not working. The running/taillight side/filment of the bulb works, but the brake/blinker side/filament does nothing ! Just bought the truck used and it's my only issue, waiting on a owners manual, but I think each bulb is fused separate, and since half the bulb works, can I rule out the fuse and start chasing wires ??
View 5 RepliesI have a family member that has a stock 2016 6.7 Auto F350 XL DRW that is less than a year old, has 85k on it and is developing an oil leak on the drivers side of the engine. What are the possible culprits and any pictures that I can forward to him of those places.
View 10 RepliesIs there a way to program all four doors to unlock when the truck stops? The driver's side unlocks but the other doors do not. This is annoying, but I can't seem to find anything about how to accomplish the auto unlock...
View 6 Repliesso i cant quite tell where its coming from, but here is a picture. it seems to be coming from just even with the drivers side exhaust manifold towards the back. from what i can see the top valley looks clean. it seems to only leak while its running. and it leaks quite a lot. its close to the bell housing so im guessing a rear main but i don't know. i hope its not!
View 14 RepliesI would like to replace my drivers side window. It has some deep scratches and with the windows tinted it really shows. Been looking for place to buy from but can't seem to find one.
The only one I found was on Amazon but was trying to find one cheaper or with no shipping charge.
Drivers side headlight is very dim or not even working with new bulbs. Occasionally it will come on. High beam light is always very dim until you click high beams then its bright blue
Short?
Bad switch??
Ok so the other day the truck started smoking excessively (white smoke) mostly just when cold.. I didn't think a whole lot of it because I figured injector stiction. (The truck has 160,000 mi on it). There was not a noticeable miss while idling though. Last night I was driving and started to get an unresponsive throttle and it continues today after its warmed up. It does it when its cold also. Got a CEL today and went to Autozone for the code read...
U1900, P0528 & P0404
P0404 EGR valve
P0528 Fan speed sensor
U1900 ???
I am going to look at EGR valve here shortly and clean it try to get it functional again but I think it is coincidental and it doesn't have anything to do with the throttle issue...
2006 f250 egr delete banks intercooler / cac tubes. Afe intake ... Sinister egr delete plate..... Truck smokes when sitting at a lite upon take off. Removed down pipe found slight amount of oil. Removed turbo put a kit in it and it is worse now. The turbo was in bad shape. The thrust bushing was pretty ate up and it had a lot of shaft play. I cant believe it wasn't hitting the housings. My thought was maybe the housing is bad. If the orings fail on the vgt solenoid what happens ? The vgt is working cause i can throttle it with the auto ingenuity...
View 14 RepliesThe truck seems to be smoking a lot when I do start it then once I drive it for a second the smoke stops. The truck will not start after the engine gets hot..
View 4 RepliesWell about 4 days after my HPOP replacement, the ol Ford is at it again. Apparently, one of my power steering lines has been rubbing on the top of my driver side front shock mount. It let loose in a giant black plume of black smoke and grinding gears as I was pulling into the corner store. Limped her home and inspected it. From what I see, its not a terribly expensive hose and shouldn't be too terrible to replace. One thing after the other [URL] .....
View 3 RepliesHave to do a brake job on the truck? I took mine truck in for a CEL (New EGT 12) and during the Multipoint inspection they saw the brakes were pretty worn (and wanted an upsell im sure). I only have 49k miles and the fronts only have 20% and rears 30% of the pads left. So I get to spend a few hours this weekend doing the deed. Anything special to look out for?
View 14 Replies2003 Ford excursion 7.3. Above the drivers side front tire, the hard inner plastic made contact with the hard line above the frame.. Cut the line. I can't tell if this line is 1 piece towards the reservoir since its hidden from my quick inspection. Looking for a schematic on replacing this line?
This happened after my wife took the truck back to the sugar bush.. She must have been hitting jumps or something
I have a new 04 F350 with only 2300 miles on it. Every once in awhile, I will get a sound coming from under the driver side of the vehicle engine compartment that sounds like back pressure being released. It happens when I am up around 2000 or more rpms and let off of the accelerator. I am gonna take the truck into the shop the first of next week just to get it checked but thought I would ask here first. It only happens when i am above 2000 rpms though.
View 14 RepliesYesterday as I was getting on the freeway , and I was really laying into the throttle, I all of a sudden started hearing the turbo hiss on the drivers side of under the hood. This new noise is not going away.
It only starts to make the hiss noise starting at 7-8 psi and up. It is very loud in the cab with the windows up when it creates boost. I checked the up pipe connection to the turbo from my y-pipe, it is sealed really good.
There is NO loss of power, No exhaust smell at all. Just a loud hissing sound on the drivers side of the engine bay and ONLY when I press the go-go pedal.
I have also re-tightened the CAC tube boots as well.
