I went to change the small filter that is mounted just behind the radiator and is inline with the 5r100 . with a socket on the bottom all i was able to do was flex the brackets going to the 3 mounting bolts as this thing is on there real good. Looking for examples on unthreading the bottom cup to access filter?
View 6 RepliesI'm doing a trans service soon on a 99 F-150 (4.2 v-6 with a 4r70w) and want to add a Wix inline filter. Is the rubber section on the cooler return line 3/8"? I'm also thinking of swapping the stock trans cooler with one from a 2003 7.3 superduty.
View 2 RepliesThis past week my wife and I took a short trip and returned on a gravel road. I went to start my truck the next morning and there was a puddle of diesel fuel on the driveway. When I looked under it, I noticed that the tip of the fuel filter housing is gone and is leaking slowly from there. I called the dealer and they would not fix it on warranty, the truck has 20k on it. The service man said he would not turn this into ford. I've had the similar problems with this particular dealer. It's obvious that a protective cover is needed for this. I kept the part and am thinking of sending it to ford.
View 13 RepliesI've got a leak that appears to be coming from the secondary fuel filter housing (the one in the engine compartment)... It's not coming from the filter, but from the side, where there are 4 allen bolts that attach a fitting to the side of the housing...Can I change out the gasket for that piece? I've already tightened the bolts, but the leak persists.

Trans temp used to be about 185 max, now it's running side by side with coolant temps (200-203 with Mishy 200 thermostat) after I did the 08 pan and filter upgrades. I added 9.5qts after the change of Valv Max Life and checked and double checked the dip stick bout half way up hot. This is normal operating conditions, not towing anything. Checked with TorquePro App. Why it would run so high? Did I do something wrong?

View 5 RepliesI bought a 2003 F350 with the 6.0L. It had injection, EGR, and oil cooler issues. I tore into it, did the injectors, EGR delete, new oil cooler, turbo seal kit, and several other non related things. Put everything back together and when I started it, it was leaking oil at the paste of 1/2 qt and minute. I did all sorts of searching on this site and went back to work on it.
I re-installed all new gaskets and O-rings, replaced the ICP and IPR sensors. Started it back up, exact same thing. From what I can see, oil is accumulating on top of the oil cooler housing around the area the turbo oil supply connects. But, its not leaking from turbo supply, or from where the filter housing attaches. Im at a loss. Its definitely somewhere on top of the engine and running down the back, only when the engine runs.
I'm presently traveling and my '02 F-250 with a 7.3 PowerStroke has developed a pretty steady drip of what I am almost sure is diesel fuel. It's dripping from the very front, from the shroud around the fan and radiator area.
I have some basic tools with me, but no experience on this engine or the fuel system. Does the fuel line go up into the radiator area? What should I be looking for? I'm stranded in a campground until I figure this out.
After doing some hunting/wheeling with my son, got back to town and 2003 Excursion w/ ~145K miles would not budge in any gear. No codes with Scangage. After 30 minutes I finally thought to rev it up and it shifted hard into gear, and drove normal home. What do do now?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 F550 mini bus, that I just had the head studs done, egr delete and air intake changed. Last night we took it out for a run to test it since we just installed a new fan clutch. We can here the fan kicking on and off. The problem is, we drove it say 60 miles, up and down a mountain, had no issues. We got out and ate for about an hour, and then drove it back the same way. This time on a slight upgrade my check gauges came on, and I seen the temp rising. I let off the fuel, and it dropped back down. So the rest of the way home I was easy on the fuel and made it back with out heating up again.
Today, we took it for a ride and at idle before we left the ECT was 172, and EOT 170, as we drove I watched the temps. Climbing up a fairly steep mountain, we were doing about 65mph, for about a 5 mile climb. During the climb my ECT was 201 and EOT 226, at the hottest point it was ECT 204 and the EOT was 226.
I am assuming it could be a possible water pump and or oil cooler. Reason I am thinking the water pump, is because after it over heated, I noticed if I let off the fuel quick after running I would hear a noise like a puffing sound. It was the coolant shooting out of the degas bottle. It did this several times when letting off the fuel quick, which I think was the pump was allowing the coolant to be pushed back in from the heat.
I already ordered a new pump, which if bad could also cause the oil not to cool as the pump is not pushing enough coolant? (Also I only lose coolant if it gets to hot)...
Working on a 2015 f-550 with a 6.7 power stroke. Damaged the wiring harness and fuel gauge not working now. Where could I find a wiring diagram? The low fuel is now causing it to not regen. We have continuity through the wires and they have been repaired but gauge still does not work. Currently now power to fuel gauge sender?

Before performing this modification, what lift was achieved up front?
My endeavor is not to achieve level, per se, but rather allow for increased tire size, such as 35's and ground clearance.
I have a 2004 f-550 sd with a 6.0. I am having a problem with cyls, 2, 4, 6 and 8 dropping out at idle. if you rev the motor up they work fine. Could I have a bad injector oring? Seems that iap pressure is good. And seems funny that it is just the one side.

Doing a coolant flush, took the thermostat out but cannot figure out how to get it out of the housing.
]I am in the process of swapping my oil cooler. When i pulled the smaller cover off of the cover that goes over the oil cooler, i heard a pop. The cover, not the one that bolts onto the motor the one that bolts to that, is cracked...bad. is there a place i can get one? need to know parts illustration with numbers?
View 14 RepliesI was twisting off the DFCM housing when I heard a pop and alot of fuel leaking. It appears I sheared off the 32mm plastic nut. I know for a fact that I was turning it counter clockwise just like the manual stated. Now what do I do? I cant run my SD can I? The simplest solution is to get another housing and install it but im not sure ill be able to get the remnants of the original housing off with out the nut to twist it. I watched Epics video on changing the filter and his came off with little effort? My same story just different result.
View 14 RepliesSo I have a bit of an oil leak, bell housing drips once or twice while it is parked for a day or so and usually has a drip hanging off of it. Where the starter mounts also has some oil and there is some of the driver side. The valley is totally dry and I have new CAC boots so it isn't coming from up there. When I look through the inspection port it doesn't look like it is from the rear main. I figure this leaves either bedplate or cam/crank sensor. Any thoughts on how to narrow it down further? Maybe put dye in the oil? It looks somewhat oily up by the cam sensor but it is so hard to see that thing I can't tell very well.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2005 F550 with a 6.0. Recently I have had issues with a long crank before starting at times but once it started there were no issues driving. Yesterday it started up in the morning, made a few stops then it wouldn't start at all. Cranked strong but no start. Had it towed back, sat for an hour or two now it starts again. Put a gauge on it and all readings are good. Did have a P2285 code which the ICP sensor. I do suspect there could be an issue with the egr cooler as it needs coolant occasionally. Could that have anything to do with the no start? Truck has started fine today. Why start sometimes then not?
View 11 RepliesOk, I have a early 99 F550 that had a tired engine when I bought it about four years ago, but I kept using it just dealt with the low power and blow by. But last winter I decided the truck deserved a complete overhaul. New cab, new transmission, overhaul the engine, and everything else that goes with. I tore the engine down to find out it was already a ford reman. Had the heads completely gone through, new pistons, new exhaust manifolds, new turbo, brand new injectors, new 4inch exhaust, new valve cover gaskets uvch harnesses and repair ends for harness side, and a new IDM.
Now with everything back together, the truck starts an idles fine but has absolutely no power driving it takes like a half a mile to get to 45mph. No check engine lights no smoke. I took it to ford they said only stored codes were for ebpv which I deleted out of turbo housing they recommended changing injectors. So i did no difference. They also said my hpop was about 1600 at idle. And said that's enough pressure. I did resistance readings on all wires between idm an valve covers.
