We have a 03 Ford Explorer Sport Trac that we just changed the ICV on because after it would warm up it dies at intersections. Now it shutter quite a bit a dies in reverse. We took it to a transmission place and no codes come up.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 Sport Trac that basically died last night on me. I drove it 30 miles Shut it off for about 10 minutes came back out and it cranks but it will not start. I sprayed some starting fluid into the throttle body and it ran for a second, so it's definitely a fuel issue. I am just not sure if it could be a fuel pump, Relay, or a dirty Fuel filter (I have not changed in the 87K I had the truck). Because it ran fine before it died..
View 5 RepliesMy Sport Trac will periodically fail to start after shutting it down for a short period. It doesn't stall, but won't start after parking for just a few minutes to a couple of hours. I've had it towed twice, but it always starts after it gets to the shop and the mechanic can't find a problem or a code. It has happened 4 times and seems to start again after it sits for 3 hours or more, definitely by the next morning. A fuel system cleaner had been tried and the fuel filter has been replaced, but the problem continues.

Lately my truck has been acting funny. About 1 out of 3 times I start my truck and put it n reverse it starts doing what I would describe as a hesitation. If I sit for about 10 seconds, it will stop. But if I move while it is happening it will move and jerk as if i was slightly hitting the brake constantly (no the parking break is not on). It will continue when I throw it in drive until I give it some gas. From then on as far as I can tell there are no problems. It doesn't do it every time. I went in for an oil change and they told me I will need to replace the belt soon, so could that be the culprit?
OK I replaced AC compressor a few months ago and everything was fine... Now today I put AC on and the AC is cold but only comes out defrost....
I do not hear anything trying to switch to front vents... Is there a fuse that could be blown....
Parts store guy said bad actuator.... have to pull dash..... but then said he heard of a way to sneak in the side of the center console....
All other lights work including Driving lights and High Beams.
I have checked fuses.
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4, powered by the 4.0L SOHC V6 engine, with a 5R55E transmission. It now has this issue of stalling and dying when shifted from park to reverse. This can be prevented by applying the gas immediately after shifting, however, my wife cannot do this. (she is very temperamental, and doesn't remember that this issue occurs decently often now, so if it happens once, she bites my head off because I haven't fixed this issue yet) I do not see this as the valve body issue, because the tranny shifts fine, and I have engine braking ability, still. What causes this, and what I can do to fix it?
View 6 RepliesI recently have been experiencing some trouble when initially starting my truck. It usually doesn't turn over on the first go, wait five seconds, cranks just fine. However when I start it the engine revs up and and down on its own sometimes, and when I put it into drive and reverse especially, I get a pretty good shake like the it's reving up and down. I pop it into neutral and give it a second and usually seems fine. My check engine light pops from time to time and I believe its some the solenoids triggering it. What is going on? I am not very truck savy at the moment.
View 2 RepliesI bought my wife a 2007 Ford sport trac about six months ago. It has always made a very peculiar sound. It only makes this noise when you are driving about 50 mph uphill. The sound is rhythmic and coming from the rear of the truck. I would compare it to driving over sets of rumble strips but quieter. The vehicle is 4x4 and my theory is that it has something to do with this.
View 6 Replies2003 Limited explorer 237k with auto climate controls. 95 degrees out and a/c on when fan speed began going up and down a few times and then completely off. Won't work on heating as well. Rear fan works fine so I changed the resistor but still nothing. The control lights up when changed as usual but no fan. What to change next?
View 7 RepliesMy 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac only dies when someone rides in the front passenger seat. Then it won't start for at least 30 min to an hour. The time seams to vary. There is no warning light, no motor sounds or any kind of warning at all. It just dies. When trying to start it cranks great, no signs of battery drain. I think it's the auto shutoff wiring in the floorboard that goes to the reset button for the fuel pump. I tok it to a dealer and they put in a new fuel pump. $1000 later that night it did the same thing. I had a friend in the passenger seat. I took it back the next morning and they kept it for 3 days but could never get it to die. So my thought is they never had a passenger. I tested it myself in my driveway and stomped my feet around the floor and it died.
View 4 RepliesActually I know how Control Trac works in theory, but I mean in the real world. For example, when going through emissions we put it on the standard, rear wheel only rollers. If I understand it correctly, both driveshafts are always turning and if the system detects the back driveshaft going faster than the front it interprets this is as a loss of traction and can route up to 100%of the power to the front wheels. So how, when it was in auto 4X4 mode, was it able to go on the rear wheel only rollers? I am (assuming) that both driveshafts were turning at the same speed so the system didn't send any power to the front wheels. I know the 4X4 high and low work fine.
View 4 RepliesIt is a 2003 xlt 4.6 auto. sometimes, but not too often, when you shift from park to reverse nothing happens, no go backward.... even if you mash the go pedal. if you shift to drive then back to reverse it works fine. Not predictable enough to show it in failed mode to the mechanic. Is this a common simple fix? would this issue throw a code? (No blinking or idiot lights on dash when it does this) is there something I can tell the tranny guys to look at since it is on my dime? Somthing like a shift solenoid or something...
View 2 RepliesI am trying to track down where exactly a clunk is coming from on a 2003 Explorer 4x4(auto, hi, low). My buddy brought it by my house yesterday and i cannot pin point it. If you put the truck in reverse, once you hit the gas, it clunks pretty loud. If you just put it in reverse, let off the brake, it will not do it until you hit the gas.
I got the explorer up in the air and crawled under it. I had my buddy switch from forward to reverse, and back again. Every time he let off the brake in forward or reverse, it would clunk. The reverse clunk was definitely louder.
It does the clunks in all settings, -auto,hi,low. No flashing dash lights. The dash lights do come on accordingly. One thing he pointed out was the Auto,HI,Low Buttons themselves are not backlit anymore. Not sure if that has anything to do with it?
I cannot narrow it down as the whole transfer case, front driveshaft and front diff, shake with the clunk. U joints don't seem to have play (prying with small prybar). I then went ahead and unplugged the big wire connector at the transfer case and the clunk went away.
I have an Explorer Sport 2001 that will not crank nor start. I have replaced the following:
Crankshaft, camshaft sensors
Ignition coil
Ignition switch, neutral safety switch
Fuel filter
Fuel pump
Starter
The battery is less than 6 months old .. Still, the car will not crank, will not start. I have spark, voltage and fuel.
The PCM does NOT communicate with the scanner. I purchased a used PCM off of eBay. This one does communicate with a scanner and gives the following DTC codes:
P1120-- Throttle Position Sensor out of range
B1601-- Unprogrammed Pats Key
Since the car is in the Caribbean I can't tow it to a dealer.
I have a 98 sport 4.0 i bought awhile back and its been running rough.. When driving it seems to cut out.. I had it scanned and it has code PO453 which is pressure sensor.. I was told they replaced the fuel pump when i got it.. After driving and i get out i can smell gas on the drivers side.. I replaced the gas cap but no change.. I was just wondering about this code and what i should start with first..

View 2 Replies2001 Celica, battery dead after seeming to crank more slowly each time it was started during the day (wife was driving). I disconnected the battery to charge/test it, after reconnecting it started immediately but after 1-2 seconds engine dies. RPMs can be coaxed up to 3,000 in that time, but even though it seems to be running fine it shuts completely off, no coughing or sputtering. Won't start at all unless key is turned off and then back on, then it will do the same as described above.
It's giving a P1300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction No. 1 error code. Possible causes listed are:
- Ignition Coil No. 1 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Coil No. 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Ignition Coil No. 1
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
Seems to me a lot like the last, the ECM.
My 95 TS 3.8L is misfiring on #4cyl ONLY when reverse is applied. When car is in reverse with parking brake applied, consistently misfires on #4. In drive with brake applied and engine load no miss. Neutral no miss.
Car drive ability is great in drive no misfires. 100% misfires on #4 only when in reverse. Is there any vacuum change or assist utilized with this trans? Possibly vacuum leak? I do not have a vacuum gauge. I changed to a different plug wire and same problem. New plugs installed. Have not swapped coils yet.
I am not familiar with this trans, other than the vacuum servo for upshifting I replaced when it was sucking up trans fluid like my old Powerglide in the OLD days.
