I have an 03 Elantra with a slight hum coming from the front left wheel area. It starts after 35 mph, does not seem to get louder as speed increases. I have about 3500 miles on Pirelli P6 plus 195 60 15 tires all at 35 psi, front brakes are new, cv boots are not cracked or torn and I do not notice any abnormal heat coming from front left hub(wheel) bearing area.
View 1 RepliesMy car seems to make a tick tick tick sound coming from the left front wheel well, but it only occurs when I make right turns. Not left or when driving straight. Could this be a bad cv joint or wheel bearing? Again, only happens when making right turns and I believe at any speed and the sound interval I believe is shorter (faster tick tick) at higher speeds. Also, the vehicle is a 2001 manual transmission and pressing the clutch I believe (cant confirm) stops or slows the sound.
View 4 RepliesI have an intermittent problem with vibrations coming from the front left wheel area. It vibrates my whole car to the point where I need to slow down to 30mph speeds. It usually occurs during extended periods of driving, but not always. When I am on the interstate driving and it happens, it works when I pull off to the shoulder and turn my wheel all the way to each direction multiple times. Is this an axle related problem? What other things should I look for?
One more thing to add. When this problem first started happening, I noticed that it would only happen when I was in gear and giving it gas. It would stop vibrating when I was coasting in neutral.
My wife just bought her first truck, a 2008 F150 about a month ago. We have been driving it around since then and love the truck. The only real problem that I have seemed to encounter on the truck is a squeak coming from the front left wheel area. I can hear it when I cut the steering wheel and when I hit a big bump/pothole in the road. My dad and I have looked into it and he thinks that it is probably the axle joint where it goes into the steering knuckle/spindle. If it is this axle joint, is there a way to service/grease it and go on, or will it just simply need a new axle shaft?

Has started getting more and more frequent to the point of being constant for about 10 minutes today, then just went away for the remaining 15 miles home. Front left hub was definitely warmer than the other one but not too hot to touch or anything. Start of a bearing issue or something to do with the auto locking hubs for the 4wd???
View 14 Replies2011 Hyundai Elantra, 42k miles. The car is my girlfriends which I drive once every few weeks. Yesterday I noticed a rumbling noise coming from the right front tire area. The noise only comes about when turning a fairly sharp left while above 20 mph. Taking a left onto a side street etc doesn't cause any noise, but taking one while going through a big intersection etc. Where the speed is up a little bit causes the noise. The tires are original, obviously not new, but they still have a decent amount of tread left on them, they're Continental Pro Contacts.
Tire, ball-joint, brake pad rubbings? I'm going to take it to get looked at tomorrow, I did spray the area with a hose in case there was something caught in there, but that didn't change anything. The tire looks fine, no abnormal wear or bulges, the car is in alignment and makes no other noise except in the circumstance noted.
My 99 F250 has just recently started making a "rattling" noise. The noise sounds like its coming from the front left wheel area. The noise is constant while driving down the road, its NOT created by bumps or anything, its a constant noise while moving.
View 3 RepliesI'm looking at a 2004 F250 XLT super cab 4x4 with a 5.4L with only 50k on the clock. It looks to be in great shape and drives good with only a few issues. Cruise doesn't work, it pulls to the left a little, and it has a slight roar coming from the left front wheel. Other than that it seems to be a nice truck. Its blue and grey two tone. Anything else I need to look at before pulling the handle on this one?

View 3 RepliesOver the past few months I'd noticed an intermittent grinding noise coming from my left front wheel at low speeds. I took it in once but it refused to play along so I finally managed to catch it on camera and let the dealership listen to it. They booked me for today, saying it sounded like a wheel bearing (to which I agreed) and I dropped her off around ten, not expecting it to cooperate for the second time.
I got a call from the dealer around 2 PM saying that they were able to duplicate the noise and that when they took the left front wheel off and ran the car on the lift with the rest of the wheels off the ground, the noise went away. Even stranger still, when they put the wheel on the tire balancing machine and spun it, gronch, gronch...gronch, gronch....gronch, gronch. It was coming from inside the wheel! I gave them permission to dismount the tire from the wheel and about ten minutes later I got another call saying they'd found a handful of tiny hard rubber balls inside the mounted wheel/tire assembly that were rolling down the inside of the wheel and causing the grumbling at low speed.
Here's the kicker: they were in all four wheels! The tech even saved them for me so I could take a look and they don't look like anything mass-produced; some are larger than others, some are round and some are oval-shaped but when I dropped one on the glass advisor desk, it made a very clear 'Clink!'.
I just replaced half shaft on driver side of my 2002 elantra. I took off brake caliper and pads to get to shaft now that I've put everything back together theirs a sound like the brakes are slightly touching but not sure it's not cv shaft?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 GMC Senoma 4WD. I have recently noticed a roaring noise in the area of the left front wheel, The noise is associated with rotation of the wheel. There is no unusual tire wear or shimmy. I rarely use the 4WD however when I engage the 4LO option the noise gets louder.

View 3 Replies2000 Mercury Villager. Noise in the left front wheel area only. Listened to both sides and zero noise on the right side. It's a metallic scraping noise. It's increase frequency as you speed up much like a train does as it speeds up. And stops when you push on the brakes. Doesn't seem to be related to steering.

I don't think it is the engine mounts I'm wondering if its something with the suspension. The suspension is the stock 20th suspension.
View 4 RepliesI've been hearing an occasional popping sound from my left front wheel area of my 2010 Kia Forte when the vehicle accelerates, decelerates, or turns. Took it in to a reputable shop and they said there was nothing wrong. Kept driving it and it got worse. Took it to the dealer and they said my lower control arm and strut are bent (well first they said they were "shot" and it took some prying to figure out what they meant by that).
View 2 RepliesNot so simple as an unbalanced tire. Left front wheel/tire starts shaking at about 35 mph, worsens with increase in speed up to 52 mph then quits shaking. Some residual (though minor) vibration after that. Had tire balanced already at a good shop so I don't think that's it.
Struts are due for replacement - could that be part of the problem? I've had the thing on a lift and don't see anything indicative of a ball joint or an a-frame bushing, BUT, is it possible/probable that my problem is one or more of the latter problems combined beyond the tire issue?
I drove our 2007 Prius (79K miles) the other day and noticed a whirring or slight grating noise whenever I loaded up the left front wheel (by steering right) at speed. It's far from a hum or a howl at this point.

It sounds like something rubbing up against something else. I know that my rims are in good shape - is this an outer or inner bearing issue? Or is this something completely different?
View 2 RepliesWhat is causing this strange noise. I have an old 1998 Subaru Impreza that runs well but has this mystery squeaking noise coming from the area near the front left of the car. It seems to happen most on cold, dry days, and I can hear it when the car shakes, but only when it is driving, never at rest. I can usually make the noise if I let up on the gas while still in gear, and it happens sometimes while going over bumps, but typically only if the bump only affects one side of the car. If I am accelerating quickly or braking, the noise usually doesn't happen. It also usually only happens when I am in gear and have the gas pedal pressed, but it can still happens on bumps even if the car is in neutral, the noise is usually much quieter if the car isn't in gear.
I can't tell if the noise is coming from inside or outside of the car, but it seems to be louder inside and I can't hear anything from outside when driving through a parking garage with my windows down.Now this noise first appeared a few days after I got my clutch plate, fly wheel and axles replaced several months ago but I haven't been able to find anything on my own and the shop said they didn't see anything that could be causing it.I have included a recording I took while driving, if you listen its the high pitched squeaking. So far the only thing I have done is checked the sway bar and bushings and those are all in good condition and covered in lube.
