In my 2005 elantra GT 5 speed, I get a weird pulsating vibration in 5th gear at 45-50mph. It's noticeable enough to have a friend ask me about it. But it's very slight. I have 124k miles, and a new clutch. I've only had the car for a couple weeks so it's still new to me. My first inclination is axles or a wheel bearing. Maybe a motor mount. But then again, only in 5th?
View 3 RepliesMy car gives off a pulsating vibration when I'm stopped (at a light, or in my driveway, for example). Its as if someone with huge bass is sitting next to me, but I'm alone. Its a weird "jerking" feel where I can feel my seat shake like a mini earthquake.
I've tried researching "rough idle" but don't fully understand it. Rough idle implies a clogged intake, which kind of makes sense I guess. I have something better than "my car kinda vibrates when I'm stopped".
Its a 2012 Elantra Limited, all stock everything, 53981 miles.
My 2004 Santa Fe 2.4L manual transmission with 200,000km on it has this hard to explain noise when in gear and coasting. This is when my foot it off the gas and say I'm going down a slight incline. There is a pulsating humming noise, worse in the lower gears that coincides with the engine holding the car back. This only seems to happen during coasting and not when down gearing to slow down. And even when coasting if I press even ever so slightly on the gas so the engine is not holding the vehicle back, it goes away.
The clutch has never been replaced and I'm somewhat assuming it may be the clutch becoming worn.
For the last two months I've been having pulsating vibration at 70 mph (68-72) in the gas pedal. I brought it into the dealership 3 times now and then assure me nothing is wrong. They checked wheel bearings, alignment, rebalanced the tires, and even drove other 2015 GTIs and claimed they had the exact same pulsating vibration in the pedal at that speed. (If that's truly the case, which I don't believe, that's a big issue).
View 24 RepliesMy 2006 Elantra (54,000 miles) shifts really, really hard when it's not cold and passes through the 35 mph range -- hard enough to make you glad you've got your seatbelt on. I've taken it to my regular mechanic and now it's in an automatic transmission shop.
My mechanic changed the fluid (twice), and took it through a "learning sequence". The fluid didn't look that bad and he reported that there were no codes to work with. He thinks I'm going to have to get a new transmission.
The AT shop has confirmed that there are no codes to work with and that the problem begins at 143 degrees. They tell me that the transmission is shifting into a higher gear without releasing the lower gear. They tried replacing a couple of solenoids, but that yielded no change in behavior. Now, they're telling me they "think" I need a new computer. I'm just afraid the trial & error approach is going to cost me a boat-load.
Bought a second hand 2010 prius a couple of months ago. Between about 58 and 68 mph I get a pulsating hum and slight vibration that seems to come from the front of the car. Each pulse lasts about a second then appears again in another second. It's there when going straight and worse if I go round a tight right hand bend and reduces round a left hand bend. If I lift off the accelerator it makes no difference.
View 10 RepliesI recently bought an used 07 elantra w/ only 34000km (21080 miles), the inspection came up fine but he said I would have to change the timing belt within the next year and he said both set of tires (winter and summer) are on their last season.
Yesterday, I was driving for the first time on the highway with it and I notice a pulsating humming noise at speeds of 110km/h and more (~68mph+). I read that I should try and turn to see if the noise is louder, I will do this tonight.
Could it be the bearing even if the car has only 34k or is it probably the worn tires?
My daughters 2005 Elantra has a nasty vibration when you accelerate. When you reach 45-50 and press the gas pedal you can feel the vibration in your feet. The steering wheel does not vibrate at all. Once you let off the gas it stops immediately. Based on this I'm leaning toward a motor mount or maybe all of them.

First I want to tell you some details about the tires... The front tires are from different brands, the right one is Nexen Radial N5000 P195/60R15 and the left one is a Pirelli P400 P195/60R15. The back tires are the same brand but they are a little big bigger, P195/65R15.
After saying that... I'm feeling a vibration when I go faster than 100 km/h on the highway, it makes me feel insecure, when I go at 90 km/h the car is fine, the vibration is not only at the wheel, I can feel it in the entire car... Could be the different tires? Unbalance? Alignment? Rotation? Perhaps a problem with the RIMs?
And also, I hear a toc toc toc noise at the right front side of the car when I turn and brake at the same time... I just hear that noise when I turn and brake, when I'm going straight or I turn without brake I don't hear nothing.
My car literally started doing this thing where it sounds like a vibration or humm when putting my Elantra into reverse.
View 2 Repliesok, I had quite bit of work done, prob over yr ago All oem parts, timing belt, crank sensor, idler pulley, some other things while in that area. So when he was done I got this vibration when it goes into gear never in park only in rev. or drive but only in cold weather and after it warmed up it was go away. No Trans service was done. He kept it overnight outside, had the timing cover off rolled it in the garage, started it and seen that the belt was flapping crazy. So he thought it was that. well every cold morning I have to wait till it is warm to not hear that sound. it only happens during cold mornings never in summer. He had back in his shop 3 times after parts were installed. and its to this day isn't the same. its unfortunate that I didn't have many cold mornings when he had worked on it. but after I had it and the next cold morning it was there.

Basically, what's going on right now is sometimes when taking a left turn, i feel a vibration and sometimes feels like one of the tires are slipping underneath me. at speeds above 30 mph, there is a reverberation noise, and above 60, my car starts shaking and I begin to lose it's handling properties. Occasionally when going over bumps, I hear a slight knock coming from the right front. Also, I'm having elevated cabin noise. The tires (at the moment) still are wearing evenly. I believe this is a wheel bearing, as I test drove a focus once where the seller said it had a bad wheel bearing and it's having similar issues. Would I most likely be right, or could there be another issue?

View 2 RepliesRecently when I was on a longer distance drive (multiple hours) my car was producing an unusual vibration. It seemed to go away after some time. At the end of my drive I was turning left around a bend and there was knocking sound. One of the boots on the cv joint has been leaking grease so I went ahead and replaced both cv axels.
The knocking is still there. Here are the symptoms:
- Knocking sound when turning left when the accelerator is down.
- Knocking sound is somewhat intermittent when turning, not always continuous.
- The vibration is not always there and is only there at higher speeds, and is made worse when accelerating.
- All of this appears to get worse the longer the car is driven (heat?).
I have just purchased a 2005 elantra fx and noticed a vibration all the time in the steering and you can feel it in the seat on the floor and peddles, not severe but enough to be annoying. I had the same vibration in my last car a 2001 elantra. Is this normal with these cars, or could it be something like engine mounts as there is a very very slight clunk on acceleration ?
View 2 RepliesWhen @ a light or stop sign the car vibrates excessively to the point it makes my daughter sick. I do feel it vibrating but it doesn't bother me but something is definitely wrong. There are no engine lights on, I can hear the top end tapping and clattering, I did check the valve clearances which seem to be barely within specs. She says it vibrates worse when the tank is full. She also said when the tank is full the front end shakes driving down the road. I'm kinda wondering the front end shaking with a full tank might be the rear struts.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 Toyota corolla with 150k. If I rev the engine with the car in neutral and my foot off the clutch, it starts to shake at about 2-2.1k rpm. It will also start to shake at 2.5-2.9k rpm when the car is in gear (I can feel it in any gear but it's most noticeable in 5th gear on the freeway).
I just replaced the spark plugs (I know, should have done that a while ago...) but it still has the same vibration. I'll be doing a compression test later today, but I did take a few minutes to check out the motor while the hood was up. I set up a camera and recorded the car from start up and hit 2.1k rpm a few times. The vibration isn't visible but the engine jumped a little right at start up.
Are the motor mounts bad? I've had that same vibration but a lot less intense since I've had the car, but it recently got a little worse.

I have a Hyundai elantra 2002 that is stuck in second gear. I was driving it, I came to a stop sign so I put it in neutral and when I shifted into first i heard a pop. I started driving and when I shifted into second I noticed the shifter was really loose, when I tried shifting into third I couldn't.. it is like there is a brick wall. I can shift from 1st to 2nd but the shifter just moves up and down. Also if I let the clutch up it stalls the car. I was told that my car is stuck in second gear.

View 4 RepliesI have driven my Hyundai for 79,880 miles. I brought it new in 2005. I had the front brakes replaced and afterwards felt a vibration through the gas pedal, steering wheel and seat. Both driver side and passenger sides had the vibration. You can feel the vibration at any speed. Sometimes it feels as if there is a part spinning unbalanced and bumping against something.
I replaced both front wheel bearings, both CV joints, and both front struts. These were all the original parts and they were all in need of replacement. The struts were so bad that they had no gas to resist a simple push at one end. I had all four tires high speed balanced.
I lifted the front end and stepped on the gas to get the tires going. I did it at high speed and my friend tells me he could hear a rattling of what he thinks are steel ball bearings coming from the drivers side of the automatic transmission. He thinks that there may be a bad bearing(s) in the transmission. I simply don't know. What the cause of the vibration might be? Could my warranty cover the repair?
