two times i tried to have my 2005 elantra gt scanned for errors, both times the scanner blew. The mechanic followed the instructions and has been doing this for years so there is no doubt he doesnt know what he is doing. The first time came as a surprise but the second time i now feel there is something wrong with my car.
View 1 RepliesMy 2004 elantra shuts off while driving, while making a machine gun noise. If I try to start it, it will continue making the noise. I wait a few minutes after clicking and whirring robot noises stop and then it starts again. I've tried the cam position sensor, that worked for a few weeks but it's doing it again. Luckily it seems to only happen at slow speeds, before I pull into traffic.
View 5 RepliesI recently got a 2002 elantra gt from a family member. I found out that the fog lights don't work at all. (headlights work fine) I took the whole fog light housing out and tested the connections with a multimeter. The passenger side read at 30 millivolts which is very odd and the driver side read nothing. The bulbs are the original bulbs and I put new Nokya 55 watt 2500K yellow halogen xenons and they do not work either.

some time back, due to fault in the alternator, the voltage raised to around 17V in my Elantra. After this, the Air Bag light remained ON. Got it scanned from a shop and they said the system is functioning properly but the control unit does not work. The part ID is : 95910-2D300
I have two questions:
1. Does repairing this unit is possible?
2. I checked in e-bay (UK) but the exact part is not available. Are there any alternative part numbers that I can use instead of this exact one?
The green lights work on the AC and Max AC buttons. However, when I attempt the ignition on, fan off, press AC button 3x, fan to auto - nothing happens. No light blinking at all.
View 1 RepliesI am on vacation and the AC has stopped working in my '01 Prius. I have run the HVAC diagnostic and it shows the "21" code. The only thing I can find related to this code is the solar sensor fault. I have located the solar sensor on the dash but am not sure how to remove (to replace) it. I have gotten the little black cover off of it but don't know how the rest comes out. Does it just pull out or unscrew or do I have to squeeze some tabs or what?
View 2 RepliesI have an 05 Elantra and the blinkers suddenly don't work any more. Both of them. The headlights still work and everything else seems fine. I tried checking the fuses and the ones I can see are fine but there are several that are larger and opaque. You can't see if they are tripped. What could be causing the blinkers not to work and how do I check the fuses if that is the culprit?

View 1 RepliesI found out last night that all 3 of my brake lights are out. However, my tail lights work, and my turn-signals work. So obviously its not a big wiring deal. I was looking for the brake switch but i don't know where its at because i looked underneath. What fuse is the brake lights cause my manual doesn't have it listed. I drive a 04 Elantra GLS.
View 6 RepliesLast Saturday it worked because i left all 4 windows down while driving. On Sunday I drove in the rain, so all my windows were up. The next day on a clear day I put my windows down and noticed the left rear window won't go down but I can hear the normal 'shoosh' sound like the motor works but it won't slide down. I put my hand against the window to push down and it went down (because I had already push the button down so it allowed the window to be opened) When I pushed the button up to go up, it goes up.
To make sure my window can't be slided down with hand by carjackers, I first tried by using my hand to slide down, it won't go down. So it seems like the motor works. When I pressed the bottom to go up, it goes up but it won't go down when pressed down.
Car year is 1999....
This car has been sitting in my car porch for a little over two months. I would start it once every 1 or 2 weeks and let it run for a minute. I assume the battery was not at the best of it shape since every time I started the car, it would take a little more time, but the car would end up starting just fine. After a two weeks break, the power was down and nothing would turn on at all. I jump started the Camry with cables connected to my own car and thought I would start the Camry and take it for a ride, make sure the battery gets a chance to recharge.
But nothing happened when I turn the key, nothing but this "machine gun"-like noise ( which you can hear on the video [URL] .... don't know if by starting the car without driving it for two month, I did not give a chance to the car to recharge the battery, which led to the total loss of power, but this does not explain why when jump started, the engine won't turn on, and does not explain this sound I hear...
The truck starts fine and when it was idling just started this loud machine gun sound for a few seconds, then stopped, and then happened again. I turned it off, and now...? May or may not be related but the battery was dead yesterday. We jumped it quickly and drove it to let it charge. Had the battery checked and it tested good. The battery is only about 6 months old but it's been pretty hot here in southern NM so figured that was probably the cause. There was no check engine light. I did a search here and spark plugs were mentioned for a Ford, but not sure if that holds true for the Honda.

View 14 RepliesBefore I start, when I drive, and after I shut down (for 10 minutes) my 06 sounds like a machine gun is firing in the far distance, also a buzzing noise is happening. This continues when I drive the car as well. It drives me nuts!! See video for better representation of what I am talking about. Maybe it's the pump for the coolant pre tank but I don't see how this could be normal. This is my first prius, other than this noise the car is excellent.
View 8 RepliesMy truck has this rapid machine gun type start, but not always. It always starts though. I had the alternator tested at O'Reilly auto. They said it was good. I have also been trying to see if there is a possible relation with my clicking sound. I guess it might be more of a steady tapping. I thought it was possibly a lifter. My neighbor that works at one of the quickie lubes said he would take a look. He listened with a screw driver and said he did not here the clicking/tapping sound from the engine.
I showed him how when you accelerate on the gas it gets faster and louder. He said it sounded like it was coming from one of the pulleys. There is no kind of squeaking though, just a loud obnoxious tapping noise. He said that he thought it could be a bearing.I am just trying to think if there is still some kind of alternator relation, because also at times going down the road I notice that the lights on my dash flicker a bit. From looking at all of the pulleys, they all look pretty steady. Although, the crankshaft pulley on the bottom does look like it has just a little wobble. We did not have a long enough screwdriver to listen for the tapping in the pulleys. Also, the serpentine belt is good on it.

I was told during an oil change in the spring that I would need a new battery soonish. I haven't bought one yet.
Last week I tried to start my car and it made a machine gun noise and wouldn't start. A friend jumped it and it started fine. I took it to Canadian Tire and a mechanic tested the battery and said it was over charged, 508 I think, should be 500.
Then today it won't start and is making the machine gun noise again. Now the horn and lights are dimming too when I lock it.
What is going on? I checked the posts; they are clean and tight.
I found a way to retrieve messages from my home answering machine on a Prius equipped with the bluetooth built into the radio. I use one speed dial to call home and a second one programed with the answering machine code for new messages. Press off hook and speed dial for calling home. When answering machine picks up, press off hook again and select speed dial button with the answering machine code, then press off hook again. Code will be sent and you will hear your messages without being disconnected.

Also, the engine sounds like a sewing machine when revving up to about 1,800 RPMs, then the engine sounds fine. Lastly, the far camshaft makes a knocking at idle after engine warms up.
If this indeed needs a timing replacement, I've done everything on the car myself, but this would be a stretch.
I own hyundai 2000, 1.5L. About 5 days ago the engine started making strange noise that sounds like sewing machine.
I went to my garage and they said that its the hydraulic valve lifters and that I should replace all of them(12 total).
My question is, what can happened if I wont replace them? can I postpone the replacing for a few months or it can cause damage?
By the way, I heard that the noise from hydraulic valve lifters can start due to bad oil, I had 20W50 so I changed today the oil to 15W40(manufacturer recommendation) and the oil filter and still got the noises.
I have been getting inspection stickers at the same place since 07 without any problems,this time they plug her in to test and the truck stalls and the test machine locks up ,happens multiple times.
They find bent pin on OBD plug and fix but still keeps happening. We are baffled it sounds like a short somewhere but there are no codes or check engine lights on.
The only new thing on the truck is a new flatbed with led tail lights and marker lights. The blinkers flash fast from the leds could they be messing with the computer? I'm going to inspect the engine harness today to make sure there's no wires grounding I don't know what else to check...
2002 F350 7.3L ....
I installed the Low beam HID kit from xenon supply today and I bought an LED Fog Lights to match the color of the headlight. I tested it after I finished putting it all back and It works fine. I waited for the sun goes down and test it on the road. while driving my fog lights just stops running and there is no green light on my dashboard.
