Elantra XD (2001-06) :: How To Enable Always On Headlights Option
Feb 28, 2016
I need to enable the "always on" headlight option. I know it's called Daytime Running Lights (or DRL) but I'm looking for a quick, easy, cheap, DIY solution (meaning if I can avoid installed a DRL kit).
Details: Imported car from US to Canada (2004 Elantra). Many/most US cars don't have DRL since it's not required by law. Canada law requires it. So I have to get it inspected and they will check if headlights are on even if light selector is at "OFF".
That's all I want. If it can be done by a rewiring or reconnection or putting fuse in, I'd rather do that than purchase some DRL kit, or take it to mechanic, or, heaven forbid, a dealership.

I drive a 2009 Elantra SE. We have not been using our key fobs for years. We just prefer to open the car with a key and lock it using the auto door lock button in inside of vehicle when we exit. When we shut the door after locking it in this way, the hazards blink once.
We just moved to an area with more petty property crime. Does the above procedure enable the anti-theft alarm, or do you have to use the fob? If I recall, locking the car with the fob causes the hazards to also blink, but the horn also sounds if you press the fob twice.

The stock headlights on my 02' Elantra GLS Automatic were not bright enough, I could barely see anything at night. So in December I put in Silverstar 55w bulbs. In May the passenger side bulb died. I warranty replaced the bulb. The same bulb died again last week. I replaced it again with the same bulbs. Is it possibly my car can only handle 35W bulbs, or wiring issues, or faulty fuse? Not sure whats going on.

I bought my car from the dealership new in 2006. 2005 Elantra GLS 5 Door. I did not know that there was an alarm nor has it ever gone off before in the 7 years that I've owed it. Three years ago I had an autostart put in. No longer have original remotes.
Today I used my remote to unlock my car doors. When I opened the back door an alarm started to go off on my car and the headlights were flashing (no horn honking). I tried using the key to unlock in the door and in the ignition to make the alarm stop.
I unhooked the battery and as soon as I hook it back up the alarm continues. Called the autostart company and they told me the autostart didn't come with an alarm. I called the dealership and they said if it was a factory alarm that it would honk and not make alarm noises.
Found my original window sticker says "keyless remote entry w/ alarm" .. Other than having my car towed to the dealership, how can I make this alarm stop?

The 2010 elantra touring gls has headlights that are angled too low. The low beams project toward the ground and its especially bad on hills, making it difficult to see more than 50 feet in front of you. The high beams are misaligned as well, the passenger side higher than the driver side. When the original owner went to the dealer after purchasing, they said they could not further adjust the angle. I find this hard to believe, but she drove it for 6 years like this.

Find that the elantra headlights aren't bright. I have a 2011 Elantra GL and find my headlights are very dim compared to other modern cars.

I seem to have a bit of condensation inside my headlights. Is this normal?... On a car that's not even a year old? Seems to only happen on days that are raining, very humid, or when I give it a wash. Basically anytime there's contact with water.

The headlights have been giving us fits because we can't shut them off when we turn off the car. We have to start the car, sometimes drive it around and shut off lights before shutting off the car. And this process has to often be repeated several times before it works. Yesterday the lights came on by themselves when my husband turned off the car in the garage and he couldn't get them off so he disconnected the battery.

We purcheased a used 2003 Hyundai Elantra in Aug. 2010. Since then the driver's side low beam has burnt out 3 times. From our online research this appears often in the Elantra, but with no real fix. There does not appear to be any moisture problem and I am leaning towards a short, ground, or voltage problem. But seems odd that it is always the same headlight.

After 1 1/2 weeks I finally took the new Elantra out in the night time for a quick look see to check out the headlights. Immediately I noticed that the stock headlights have a definite cutoff down the road in front of you. That's kinda cool and Ok, BUT, in driving only 35mph, I felt like I was already overdriving the headlights. I'm thinking about tweaking the lights up a bit and counting the turns of the screw if that's still the way it aims. Have you noticed your headlights seemingly aimed a little low? Seems like and extra 50 feet would go a long way, but I don't want to aim them in other's eyes either.

My Elantra 2011 headlights do not come on when it is cold. (30 degrees or lower) They eventually come on after about 5-10 minutes as the engine warms up. I've had the switch replaced with no change.

I have a 2013 elantra limited with the tech package. Today I discovered that my parking lights or headlamps stay on after the car is turned off and the vehicle is armed. The interior blue lighting ( gear selection, push start ignition button, a/c selections, Eco button etc. ) stays on as well. I checked the fuses, but couldn't find anything that pertains to the parking lamps.
I usually run my lights in the drl or headlights position as I lost the auto feature when I installed my H.I.D's. And they usually shut off after a good 15 seconds.
I installed a powered compact subwoofer today and initially wired it to the same battery terminal as the H.I.D.'s but now have switched to another terminal.

My limited has lost it's low beams when the switch is set to head lights but not when set to marker lamps. They still shine at a reduced output then. I've read this may be an issue with the BCM?

I bought an '08 Elantra in October and I notice whenever I am driving on surface streets at night people are constantly flashing their lights at me as if I have my brights on. I don't. At first I thought it might be a coincidence and maybe they were trying to warn me about cops or something, but it happens way too often. On a 10-15 minute drive I get flashed 4-6 times on average.
I've started paying more attention to my headlights since I've realize they might have an issue and at first I thought they might just be too bright, but I do notice that I can see into the back of peoples' cars much more clearly than I can when I'm in other peoples' cars.
As far as I know they're stock headlights. Were they too bright or did they just need to have their angle adjusted? How hard is it to do that and is it expensive?

Not sure if this has been figured out yet. I did a quick search but didn't really find an answer.

How to enable the options within settings to allow me to position the wipers straight up so I can change them. The option is greyed out, no matter what the car is doing (get a message telling me I can't do that when the car is moving, even when I'm in Park with the engine off)...

I just bought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT and it is my first new car. I drived it at night for the first time and noticed that the headlights were only illuminating the bottom half of my field of vision. In fact, as I drove up to the garage, there was a distinct line of top half dark, bottom half(or maybe a third) light. Is this part of a newer design of a car? A flaw? Just new car jitters and is something to get used to? It made me very uncomfortable because I wasn't able to see as much as I am used to.
