I have a 2006 elantra gt. two days ago it stopped while driving and wont start again. I towed home and brought a technician. he told me it was the crankshaft position sensor. I replaced it but still wont start. I recently changed the battery, spark plugs and timing belt. less than 2000 miles on since then.
View 4 RepliesThis has been happening for awhile now. I will drive somewhere, distance isn't a problem, and then after I'm done, I'll go to start my car, and it won't start. It won't turn over or whatever the term is. The starter tries, but won't bite. Sometimes it will start and I can drive for a bit before it will die about a block or 2 later.

View 1 RepliesI bought a brand new 2013 elantra last year and currently has 20,000 miles on it. I had custom halos installed as my lights that turn on automatically when the car is on and is on continuously. I also have hids installed into the headlights.
Last week my battery sign came on when I turned the car on and after driving about 20 minutes the car completely stopped and did not turn on. Took it to the dealership and they first denied me warranty saying because of all the aftermarket stuff we cant touch this car for free. So I paid for the diagnostic which was $102 and after they told me that your alternator fried but they are not sure why. Would it be because of the halos and hids??
2005 Elantra with around 92,000 miles. Two days ago the temp would spike while at idle not dangerously hot but would come close, the temp would cool down once i started driving. Cooling fans both work and coolant levels are good. Just yesterday the A/C just stopped working and car would come close to overheating while going down the road now.
View 10 RepliesMy 06 Elantra started to stall / misfire when I was driving it. It doesn't seem to matter how fast I am traveling as it will " misfire" for lack of a better word. It has an automatic transmission, and the rpm's will start to bounce as the car begins to jerk when this occurs.
I don't live anywhere near a dealership, so I brought it to the garage that I take my other vehicles to, and they had a hard time diagnosing the problem due to the fact that there never was an error code coming up or check engine light. They ended up finding a bad coil and changed it out.
That was 2 months ago and I haven't had a problem with it till today when the exact same issues resurfaced. And again no check engine light comes up, just the misfiring and when stopped at intersections, subsequent stalling.
About 2 weeks ago my Elantra began displaying the symptom of struggling to start after fueling. The check engine light came on with P0170/P0171 codes for fuel trim malfunction. Did my research and replaced the fuel pump. After this, the car struggled to start all the time until after a few days, while I was driving, the car struggled to accelerate and jerked like crazy trying to. Did more research and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. After this the car drove beautifully for about an hour and then again stopped accelerating, jerking like crazy and lost all speed. Error code P0441 Evaporative Emissions now was the only one on. I filled the gas tank (it had been low) and for another hour the car was fine and then the trouble started again. After turning it off the car would not start at all. Now I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor but that did not fix it. All the relays and sensors look good. What to do next. It still won't start.

Now, when she has the AC running, and she stops at a stoplight, she has to put it in neutral or the engine will almost but not quite kill.
View 2 RepliesI have two simultaneous problems with my 2005 Elantra (automatic transmission). I don't know if the problems are related or not, or if they are alarming or not.
Background on the car: timing belt and water pump replaced in 2010; four tires new in 2010; oil changes every 5000 km.
The first is that my engine is making this 'whirring' sound when I approach 80km/hr. It's not high-pitched, but more of a droning noise. Having read around the forums, I see that Elantras commonly make funny engine noise, but this is fairly new to my car (145,000 kms) and definitely not there at all when idling or at low, city-street speeds.
Additionally, I have a weird vibrating noise coming from the front left of the car only when I am dead stopped and the brakes are fully depressed. It doesn't make this sound in park, and I don't hear it until the car has come to a complete stop; there is no odd noise while slowing down.
My 2000 ranger, 5 speed, won't start. I was driving, and all of a sudden, the engine just stopped.
Electrical works, engine turns over once or thrice, but it never actually turns on. Wires and belts all appear fine.
1990 GMC with 4.3, 6 cylinder. He saw no spark so after checking on prices for things like rotor, cap, module, he just bought a rebuilt distributor. Installed it and it still will not start. If we run the coil wire to a plug, we get a spark. Check an individual plug, no spark. Yes, the rotor is installed ! I would think module, but rebuilt distributor came with one. Crank position sensor? I don't see one. Does a 90 year have one? How bout ECM? When it stopped working, he was driving it and it spit and sputtered and stopped. And, just in case....where is the ECM on this truck?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2000 Camry Solara V6 with about 108K miles on it. The car has recently started to give the following problem: The car starts without any problem in the morning and runs smoothly. There is no problem while the engine is in idle mode. The problem starts when after driving for a while I shut the engine, say for filling in gas. When I try to start the engine again the engine will start, idle for a couple of seconds and then die.
The engine doesn't keep on running in idle mode. I can keep the engine running by pressing on the accelerator and keeping the rpm above 1000. Once I drive for a few feet then the engine doesn't die even if I idle at a stop light. This generally happens only after I shut the engine after having driven the car for a few miles and then start the engine again within the next 20 minutes. The battery is in good condition. Any clues on what the problem may be?

View 11 RepliesI was driving on the highway in my 2001 jetta (332000 km) on the cruise control yesterday and suddenly it just started slowing down and stopped. Putting my feet in the gas did nothing . Before stopping completely the battery light came on. After won't start anymore, just making a sound like it is trying but turn in the butter. To be honest the check engine has been on for a while but we are pretty sure that is the glow plugs because it is a recurrent problem... Nothing else light up and there was no sound or smoke.

codes- p0720 output speed sensor circuit malfunction, p0500 veh speed sensor a malfunction.
Recent fixes on my 2001 Hyundai Elantra.
A few months ago i had my speed sensor cleaned, and a power steering leak. No problem after that was fixed and cleaned the sensor. Soon after that my water pump went bad and i had that replaced along with 3 new belts. Just last week i had my front driver side replaced with a new wheel bearing and axle.
My Problem then and now.
My problem months ago, my car would be shifting into different gears as it pleased; while driving or sitting at a light i would feel it jump and it felt as if it was stuck into 2nd or 3rd gear as i was driving. My engine light would soon come on after this. To accelerate i feel as if i had to floor my pedal when the shifting or engine light came on. I looked up my codes and they are the same as they are now. I read about same problem and fixed it by just cleaning the speed sensor off. My friend and i did the same thing and it fixed those issues. My problem now is that i just had my axle and wheel bearing fixed (my car moves smoother and quiet) my engine light came on again, it had not been on since, i read the codes and they are my speed sensor same as before but my car has not been shifting as it was in the past. Would this be because the sensor needs to be cleaned again or replaced, or because of my new replacements on my wheel.
My 2002 Elantra GT has been turning off while driving. The radio, lights, and other accessories remain on. The car doesn't lurch but all of the dash lights come on like when you're first starting a car. I was able to restart the car after about 10 min the first time and 5 min the second time it happened. 1 week between episodes.
Brought it to the garage and they couldn't find a problem while letting it run for 30 min. Also, there are no error codes. What could be wrong?
