Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Car Stuck Into 2nd Or 3rd Gear While Driving

2001 Hyundai Elantra 183 miles.
codes- p0720 output speed sensor circuit malfunction, p0500 veh speed sensor a malfunction.
Recent fixes on my 2001 Hyundai Elantra.
A few months ago i had my speed sensor cleaned, and a power steering leak. No problem after that was fixed and cleaned the sensor. Soon after that my water pump went bad and i had that replaced along with 3 new belts. Just last week i had my front driver side replaced with a new wheel bearing and axle.
My Problem then and now.
My problem months ago, my car would be shifting into different gears as it pleased; while driving or sitting at a light i would feel it jump and it felt as if it was stuck into 2nd or 3rd gear as i was driving. My engine light would soon come on after this. To accelerate i feel as if i had to floor my pedal when the shifting or engine light came on. I looked up my codes and they are the same as they are now. I read about same problem and fixed it by just cleaning the speed sensor off. My friend and i did the same thing and it fixed those issues. My problem now is that i just had my axle and wheel bearing fixed (my car moves smoother and quiet) my engine light came on again, it had not been on since, i read the codes and they are my speed sensor same as before but my car has not been shifting as it was in the past. Would this be because the sensor needs to be cleaned again or replaced, or because of my new replacements on my wheel.

I have a Hyundai elantra 2002 that is stuck in second gear. I was driving it, I came to a stop sign so I put it in neutral and when I shifted into first i heard a pop. I started driving and when I shifted into second I noticed the shifter was really loose, when I tried shifting into third I couldn't.. it is like there is a brick wall. I can shift from 1st to 2nd but the shifter just moves up and down. Also if I let the clutch up it stalls the car. I was told that my car is stuck in second gear.

I recently started getting transmission problems with my 2001 elantra.. the car would slam into second gear and the check engine light would come on and it get stuck in 3rd gear.. The codes I am getting are P0720, P0715, P1529. I searched and i found that most people that had this problem replaced the input and the output speed sensor and the problem is fixed.. so i went and i got two new sensors and replaced them i am still have the same exact problem... the car drives good for the first 5mins and then it would slam hard into gear, check engine light comes on the it get stuck in third gear...

What can I do about my car it's not shifting, it's stuck in high gear and when I go from park to reverse it makes a loud thump. The check engine light came on and the codes are transmission control module it's a 2006 and only has 30,000 miles on it. It's hard to believe it's the brain so we changed the fluid and cleaned the sylinoids but then when I drove it around the block I put it in reverse it didn't make the loud noise and it shifted fine for a minute before I got around the block and almost home it made a loud banging noise and went back to not shifting again. What the problem could be.

I have two codes P0760 and P0755, malfunction shift solenoid B and C, today I took it to Hyundai here in queens ny, I was told that It would cost e 2684.00 to fix my issue, I can't believe that if those two codes are the problem why would it cost 2684.00 ? Where are these solenoids located?
The car feels like your one of the flintstones, it's stuck in 3rd gear and cant get out, then it jerks when it tries to shift, tranny oil is fine not burnt like if the clutches are gone.

The strangest thing happened to me on the way home yesterday from work. I was driving about 110 all the way home on a highway and took an exit to my local area when i noticed as i approached the ramp i wasn't able to shift into any gears. It just felt like there was something blocking me, like a wall of rubber or something. I stopped the car on the side of the road, unsure what was going on. While the car was on and my foot on the clutch, i am able to move into all gears perfectly fine but its when i start moving i cannot go into the others. Strange. I was able to force it into second gear from first but it sounded like two plates or discs sort of sliding around on each other..maybe that was my imagination but i stopped and didn't proceed further.
While i was sitting waiting for the tow truck, i remember that the last few months it has been getting harder and harder to get into gears while driving. I would be driving and would have some resistance to get into the pocket. This progressively got worse and i guess lead to this point where i am unable to get anywhere.
First thing i thought was the transmission, but i am able to go forward in first and reverse okay and the clutch pedal was not to the floor. The clutch was recently changed, approx 20k ago.
Could it be something easy to fix? Perhaps the clutch cable has stretched out and it is not pulling me far enough into the gears making it impossible to shift. Maybe the master or slave clutch cylinder have failed? I am not sure at all!

I have a 2001 elantra gls automatic. I have am suffering what seems to be a common problem with these. while driving my car randomly drops into third gear, also sometimes it sticks in like second first (like 5000 rpm just to go 30). my brother put a computer on it and error codes popped up: p0500 vehicle speed sensor; p0501 speed sensor range performance; and p0720 output speed sensor. I checked all the wiring and none of it is damaged, so I'm thinking bad sensor. What i really need to know is, could one of these sensors be tripping the others and if so which one? or should i replace all 3?

I was driving my elantra today, and hit a big pothole. Since then, sometimes when I'm driving in fourth gear (I think), I'll feel a thud, and the rpms will go up a little. O.K. first of all I had an issue with the Odometer pointer being jumpy. Sometimes it wouldn't move. Now I replaced the input sensor at first and did not fix the problem. I replaced the output sensor and fixed it. "BUT", Now, I have a problem with the transmission shifting. I get an engine light while driving and the 2nd gear seems to take its time shifting and when it does it make the left side drive shaft kick in hard and spends my wheel to a screeching effect. Plus a thump on the transmission. I rechecked the sensor for connection and reinstalled. Drove the car still have the same issue?

I have 2011 Elantra at ~20,000 mile, and strange things started happening since last year...and it kinda blew up today.
My dashboard has been flickering randomly for a while, as in everything goes dark and turns up again in the middle of driving.
And today it turned off and turned on (as it usually does), and the dashboard seemed broken; speedometer stuck at 0 mph, rpm meter stuck at 0, all warning lights turned on, gas meter going up and down and stuff.
Fortunately enough I was close to home so I drove it back home, and my gear shift was stuck at neutral (I could switch b/w N and D).
So I took out the shift lock release? thing and managed to put the gear to P and pull my key out. I stepped out of my car and I smelled something burning...not a very good sign. What should I do? Well I think I need to take it to dealership tomorrow but I'm not sure if it'll be safe to drive...

I have a 2011 Elantra 1.8 automatic Gls with 133k miles. While driving approximately 70 miles per hour the car downshifted to fourth gear, and would not shift up or down. I drove the car home and found that this is called "lump mode". I checked the codes, and found P0880 tcm voltage input. I replaced the fluid temperature sensor and harness, and checked continuity through the harness. I found no problems in the harness from the tcm to the solenoid connector. I then purchased a matching tcm, but the problem persisted. If the battery cable is left off for several days the problem will disappear until the car warms up.

I don't know what is causing this but I bought a 2012 elantra last week (500 miles on it so far). Yesterday when I went to start my car the clicker wasn't opening or locking the doors so I had to use my key to open the door. When I got in my car would start but was "stuck" in park and I couldn't shift past park (yes I had my foot on the brake). After about 10 minutes it just randomly worked... Today I was driving to work stopped to get gas and as I was stopping I realized I couldn't shift passed neutral to put in park (I could go back and forth between drive and neutral). While this was going on my windows would not go up or down. Again after 10 minutes the problem seemed to fix itself. What could be causing this?

Just got my 2013 Elantra Limited last weekend. It appears the car is having some issues with the transmission shifter. I am not sure if its tranny related, but I highly suspect it is. Dealer gave me the usual bs not being able to duplicate the symptoms.
1. Intermittently, gear selector would get stuck in neutral, when I try to put the car into P, after a long or a short drive.
2. I would have to wiggle the shifter to get into P, or I would have to shift to D, and then I am able to shift back into P.

My auto transmission in my 2007 Elantra with 125,000 miles went into default mode, stuck in 3rd gear. No codes went off. I drove it home this way, but after sitting for 90 minutes, now it works fine. I've heard about the input and output sensors. What should I replace? I went to HMA service to get info on both sensors, but it wasn't detailed enough.

My 2006 Elantra (54,000 miles) shifts really, really hard when it's not cold and passes through the 35 mph range -- hard enough to make you glad you've got your seatbelt on. I've taken it to my regular mechanic and now it's in an automatic transmission shop.
My mechanic changed the fluid (twice), and took it through a "learning sequence". The fluid didn't look that bad and he reported that there were no codes to work with. He thinks I'm going to have to get a new transmission.
The AT shop has confirmed that there are no codes to work with and that the problem begins at 143 degrees. They tell me that the transmission is shifting into a higher gear without releasing the lower gear. They tried replacing a couple of solenoids, but that yielded no change in behavior. Now, they're telling me they "think" I need a new computer. I'm just afraid the trial & error approach is going to cost me a boat-load.

Its not my car but my sister in laws. She stopped by our house tonight to pick up her kids and when she put the car in drive it showed both drive and 2nd gear. we tried disconnecting the battery so she could at least get it home (3 min away) but it didn't change anything.
She left with it still in 2nd thinking she could make the short drive without any problems but half way home it shifted down to first and it wasn't even driveable. Everything i have read on the web (which was not really specific to the santa fe) was say that its stuck in safe mode. What could have cause the problem? So far no check engine light has come on.

Replaced new clutch disc and new pressure plate.
Without turning on the engine, the clutch pedal seems to get harder to press, until it can't be pressed down anymore. The pedal can't be pressed down.
Clutch fork lever does not release.

A problem that has raised on my Elantra GT is in the hatchback, the trunk handle gets stuck in or out so when I try to open the trunk it wont, but if I push the handle in first and then open it then it opens, also I have to lock and open the car with the alarm remote several times before it opens. Now I know that the handle is bad and need to change it, the car is a 2002 and this happened on 2004 I told the dealer and refused to do anything about it unless paid for everything, They wanted like 300 to change a handle, i did not do it, I will buy a handle and do it my self, I just wanted to know if other people had run to this problem and if its hard to change the handle, the dealer said they needed to take the whole hatch apart, but as far as I can see its only 2 screws and the handle should come out. This is been a long time coming.

I have an 01 and 02 santa f. I took the v6 out of 01-and put in the 02.put new gaskets on engine new timing belt etc. Got engine in and runs like a champ. But the tranny which looks new I assume its been replaced. It starts out in 2 or 3 all the time want shift into od. Reverse works. So I found one plug dangling I couldn't figure out where it went then i found it. It plugged up on top of tranny. Well now it starts out in first and shifts through all the gears. Drove it down the rd shifted fine. Turned around and put in reverse then when i went to drive it jerked real hard. Shifted out fine so I went to floor it to make it kick down and it jerked again. This time it was hung in 3 or drive cause when I pulled into my driveway it was in high gear and u can put it in manual mode and the light only goes to second and d when it acts up like this. So i killed the car started back up and know it will go into first in manual mode and shift out and do fine?
