Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Car Sounds Like It Has A Miss
Jul 5, 2015
My 2004 Elantra has a rough idle when it starts up cold and sounds like it has a miss. When it warms up it smooths out. What could be the cause of this?

View 11 RepliesMy car sounds like an airplane when I'm on the highway. It started a week ago. I don't have new tires or anything and it only starts when I'm going above 80 km/hr.
View 2 RepliesNoise on acceleration, sounds like a miss but engine feels good and no check engine light, eventually goes away, not there under a load either, idk totally stumped.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2005 Elantra GLS. I've noticed that anytime it rains or I hit a puddle, my belt squeaks and sometimes it almost sounds like it's grinding and I lose power for 4-5 seconds. From the front passenger wheel well, I can clearly see the belt. I noticed there are holes drilled into the frame, and I was wondering if there is suppose to be a guard there to prevent water from getting on the belt?
View 2 RepliesToday, the air conditioning stopped working in my 2003 Elantra. Just stopped blowing cold air. Then the engine thermometer kept on climbing. When I pulled over home, I lifted the hood and heard a lot of bubbling and gurgling sounds, and coolant fluid leaked out underneath the car.
What could be the cause of this? When I let the car stay for a while, the AC did kick back on, but only for a few moments and the thermometer kept on climbing again until I turned the car off. The fan is blowing, I can hear it, but it is obviously not cooling the engine off appropriately.
I just installed glow plugs, ucvh, stage 2 rosewood injectors, t500, ipr and gear head tunes. I have out 97 miles on the truck since all this was installed and the truck seems to run okay but has a rough idle and sounds like there is a mis? What should I look into first?
View 12 RepliesMy 01 Super Crew 5.4l is missing at light throttle. Cruise control on flat hwy, no miss, slight incline, starts missing. Put my foot into it and either it stops missing or it covers it up where I don't notice it. No codes set at this point. It's got about 135k on it and for all I know it may have had the original plugs in it so I figured I'd change them. Changed the plugs, still misses. Shortly a code set, something about the EGR sensor (it's got another name but I forget what it is at 1:30am). I found I had broken a hose while changing plugs, fixed it, no more code, still misses.
When I sent my GF up to get the non-existent codes checked the parts guy sold her some Lucas fuel system cleaner. I'm figuring a COP going out but the cleaner pretty much completely fixed the miss, till that tank of gas was gone. Few tanks later and it's back again as bad as ever. I bought some seafoam as I've had good luck with that in the past. It almost completely fixes the miss but I get a rare 'bump'. What do I need to look at next? Can it be the fuel filter? I'd think no because I'd figure it'd be even worse at greater throttle opening. Injector? How do I check them?
What to look for. 2001 escape 3.0 starts and runs but it has a miss and no codes came up yet . the engine will rev up but it really takes time to idle down . don't matter if its cold or hot it just don't want to drop to idle as fast as it should.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 Excursion with the V-10. Two weeks ago, the upper nipple on the radiator cracked and I overheated. Was towed home and replaced the radiator with a quality aftermarket one. I then drove to the whiz wash and cleaned the antifreeze off of the engine.
Immediately I noticed a slight "miss" when cold, particularly when backing out of my driveway. I have no lights on the dash and it is throwing no codes. The miss gets much better (almost gone) when the truck is warmed up.
Got a 2001 F350 diesel auto, 295k miles.
It has miss when over 2000rpm. Below 2000 its smooth.
ICP has oil in sensor, ordered new one. Gonna change oil too.
CPS is new (not sure if its black or the other one). Starts idles and drives good otherwise.
Where should I look?
About 3 weeks into the new 13 Elantra. Liking it pretty good. I seem to be hearing a noise of some sort. Almost sounds like a flat spot on a tire. Seems to be more rapid the faster I go and more or less noticeable on different types of asphalt. Didn't really notice it at first. The only thing I did was let some air out of the tires. They had almost 40 psi when I got it. They call for 32.
View 11 RepliesI was on my way to the hardware store today and when entering the parking lot I heard a scraping sounds coming from the front end. I parked and looked under the GT and did not see anything hanging, drove around the parking lot and heard it again. Does not matter straight line or turning, i did notice when I braked I could not hear it. What this could be ? I went out again later to try to pin point it but I am not able to hear it anymore. Just not sure if I should take it in or not.
View 1 RepliesMy husband and I noticed that my Hyundai Elantra (2007) sounded rough when running over 60mph. The car has 61,000 miles on it and is due for an oil change, a radiator flush, and a fuel filter replacement. My manual says that the platinum coated (versus iridium coated) spark plugs would need to be replaced at 60K miles. I was told that the car would run rough at lower speeds if it was the spark plugs.

View 15 RepliesI've got an unusual problem with my 2013 Elantra. It has been serviced about a month ago and all was well. I left my car sitting for a week, parked inside in an unheated garage, after driving in the rain. When I came back, I started it, let it run for a few seconds (less than 30) then shut it off.
When I then pushed the door lock button on the key fob to lock the door, I noticed the horn sounded muffled and was a lot quieter than usual. Still, the door locked and lights flashed.
When I went back about 24 hours later, and tried to start the car, it wouldn't start. The engine cranked, but would not catch. Electric seemed to work fine.
I tried a few more times, pushed the gas to the floor, and it eventually started. I drove it for 30 minutes or so and it ran fine. I shut it off for 30 min, and then started it up again no problem. And the weird thing was, when I went to lock the door, the sound the horn makes when you lock the door sounded normal.
My questions are this:
1) did shutting it off after one minute the first time make it unable to start the second time?
2) are they muffled horn sound and the inability to start related?
3) do I need to bring it in for service?
Brought home tonight a 2001 Ford Escape 3.0L 24 Valve V6. Bought it from a mechanic who's customer didn't want to put any more money into it. Has 185000 miles on it and it throwing the P0303 & P0171 codes. Cylinder 3 miss and Lean condition bank1.
Mechanic thinks it is a valve seat in the cylinder head next to the fire wall. Before I start replacing the cylinder heads with new remanufactured heads I plan on doing a compression test and leak down test.?
2008 Hyundai Elantra, 2.0 it. We replaced a bad water pump, and timing belt while we were there. I followed directions found on multiple websites. We spun the crank shaft to the top dead center mark on the crank sprocket/engine block, and the cam sprocket / assignment mark. Then removed tensioner, and belt. Installed new belt and ensured alignment marks had not moved. Applied pressure to tensioner and tightened. Reassembled everything else. Car started with no problems, drive for about twenty minutes started making clicking sound from under the hood, we turned around to come back home and the car still making clicking sounds gradually started to loose power and speed until the engine stalled and would not restart. Trying to find out what could have happened.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 Buick Century that started making a noise from what seems to be the engine. It sounds like a jet engine when I accelerate. The noise is still there when I cruise, but it evens out. It is loudest when going between 40 and 50mph. The car is not overheating, and other then the noise it drives fine. My husband at first thought it sounded like the catalytic converter had been stolen, but he rarely knows what he is talking about. What could it be?
View 2 RepliesThe air box on my 01 Rodeo almost sounds like there is no filter inside it. I've checked the box and their is a filter. Still when I give it the gas it has a very throaty sound....is this normal or is my air box missing a baffle or something.
View 3 RepliesA few weeks ago my 2003, 2.7 cdx (150,000miles) i noticed what sounded like 2 marbles knocking together, so where the timing belt pulleys are i sprayed some wd40 and the noise went, BUT, since that the noise has got worse and now sounds like a whole bag of marbles jiggling around. really really loud.
View 4 RepliesMy Corolla recently started making a sporadic knocking sound when braking. It only seems to happen infrequently, but a couple of times I have noticed it happening when I go over a bump or crack in the road. Any clues as to what the issue might be?
