I've never owned a car with TC AWD yes but not front wheel w/traction control! At times when slightly spinning on ice or in snow I'll hear a 'click,click,click until I let up or it gets traction, is this a normal sound?.
View 11 RepliesEvery time we turned right in our 2013 elantra, I kept hearing a clicking noise, almost like a cv joint going out. So we took it in to the dealership to look at that as well as our peeling steering wheel. They informed me I have a bent rear cross member (I coulda swore that noise was coming from the front). I'm not sure if a cross member is the right word, because its the structural piece that connects the two rear wheels together, so ill call it an axle. The drivers side rear wheel was bent in both directions; the top was bent out and the front of the wheel was bent in I think. They showed this to me, and it was definitely bent all out of wack. The thing is, neither me nor my wife can recall a time when we hit a significant enough of a pothole/curb in order to do this kind of damage! Either way, it has to be fixed.
View 7 RepliesI hadn't driven my car for nearly a month and when I returned I noticed a rather loud "clunking" noise when moving the A/T out of park. The sound is coming from the steering column and is quite pronounced. Is it normal?
I am also hearing a sound something like a bad wheel-bearing while accelerating that I never heard before. It sounds like it's coming from the front end of the car.
So i'm only a week and a half into owning my Elantra, 800km on it and today when i started the engine i noticed a clicking/rattling sound, like the noise when someone sticks a piece of paper into a fan. Anyway it's quite minimal and you could hear it louder when you accelerate. I never noticed it before, even when i test drove the vehicle.
View 3 Replies My concern is I have some intermittent clicking/clunking noise. What causes it is if I start out whether fwd or rev. Or if I am going slow in 1st gear and I let off the gas to slow down or press the gas to speed up (btw 1000rpms and 2000rpms) I was told this noise is the clutch engaging or disengaging, which doesn't make sense because when it happens the clutch is fully engaged.
I have had this noise before 2X and there were things that were loose, which were tightened up and the noise went away. This time local dealer told me sound is normal and to keep an eye on it. To me it doesn't sound right cause its noises I didn't notice before.
My girlfriend owns a 2012 Elantra limited with approximately 20k miles on it. Two weeks ago she asked me to listen to it, because it was making a clicking noise. We've had sub zero temps here in Wisconsin, so I assumed it was the normal cold start up noise.
I quickly realized it was something much worse. It sounded like the timing chain was making noise. We took it to the dealer ASAP. They tore into it and said that the timing chain tensioner had failed. Now ten days later they called and notified us that the engine was still making noise after the tensioner had been replaced and the oil pan is full of metal shavings. It sounds like they will be replacing the engine.
On my 13 Elantra since the day I got it almost 2 year's now has always made this click noise when I disengaged the clutch and go, (not the clutch solenoid noise similar) I'll hear the clutch solenoid then almost like my left front brake was slightly sticking it makes a click like the caliper's popping loose!? I've mentioned it the stealership & nothing they tried to tell me the dust shield was touching however the noise came back within minutes I noticed it! It's just one of those annoying sound's that you need to figure out or go crazy, stick model, could it be the clutch fork or bearing releasing just can't figure it out.
View 4 RepliesIt has been raining, finally, in bay area, thats the good part. The scary part is that, today I was driving normal close to 15mph and took a left turn at a traffic light and the car spun out. This was the second time in couple of months. Both times it had rained for long periods, road was not water logged.
First time had spun out of control on right turn and second time on left turn. Tires are close to 30K old. Wheels aligned 6k back, rotated 1k back. And passenger side CV makes clicking noise occasionally. Do not remember, the CV making the noise around the time of spin out on both occasions.

A while ago, I complained about a clicking/clapping sound when I fiddle around with the clutch. I took my car to the dealer today. I let him hear the problem and he instantly knew the problem. 3 minutes for diagnostic. 1 minute for paper work. 1 hour and 26 minutes of labor. DONE. When I let the mechanic hear the noise he rolled his eyes and said, "All newer Elantra's do this".
I was lucky because the customer before me had the same problem and he/she didn't show up on their time slot. The parts were there already and he brought my car in. He said the problem was a bad axle nut, and needs a new spacer, or something. Some dealers tighten it but he highly recommends getting a new one.
After an hour and a half I was gone.

I have a 2014 Elantra, today it would not start, only loud clicking noise and lights flash. I moved gear shift to neutral same results, moved back into park same results. Do not think its a battery issue.
View 11 RepliesI am hearing a clicking sound when shifting and perhaps an unrelated but similar click when I am pressing the gas peddle from a stop. Perhaps a CV joint? I'm taking the car in to the dealer (approximately 79,000 km or 48,000 miles) on the 20th to give the car a once over.
View 6 RepliesI just started hearing a loud click when I change from park to reverse and from reverse to drive. If I keep moving the knob between those three spots with my foot on the brake and hand brake off, I hear a loud click at each spot. Hard to describe... anyway, this only happens when I first start the car, by the time I get to work if I try doing that when I park there is no loud click sound. The thing is, I don't know if this was always happening and I just noticed it now, or if it just started.
View 14 RepliesMy 2011 elantra started making a sound when I turn all the way to the right and slightly again once you release the wheel. It pretty much sounds like a rusty coil being stretched to it's limit. It happens while driving and turning right as well as when the car is not in motion and turning the wheel all the way to the right. Not sure what it could be.
View 21 RepliesMy 2011 Elantra has a slightly rough idle at stop lights. It doesn't happen ever time, and some people probably wouldn't even notice it, but at every few/several stops it idles a bit rough. When I recently had it in to Hyundai service for the ECM update, I asked them to take a look at it. Of course, they couldn't replicate it at the time, so they couldn't do anything to address it directly. The service manager asked if it happens when the A/C is on or off. While I didn't know the answer at the time, it seems to happen with it both on or off. He did say that the ECM update may address/fix the issue, but unfortunately it didn't. While it's not a big problem, it's a minor annoyance I'd like to get fixed (as I need to enjoy my ride at all times.
View 220 RepliesSo I got gas 4 days ago and today the check engine light came on afterwards. Went to auto zone to read code and it had to do with the gas pressure being slightly low (gas cap). So I got gas and resealed the gas cap. Well, it's been about 2 days since then and it hasn't gone off. Does it need to be reset or does it take more time?
View 1 RepliesI had the weirdest noise in my prius this morning when I started it. This was the first really cold morning so far ( 24) and Ive had the car a few months now, new to me 2010. When I started it, it went clunk clunk clunk like something was spinning in the gear box and hitting something as it came around, possibly from generator box too. Car was in park when this happend and during the initial startup. Then it quickly got less and went away within about 20 secs. This wasn't some light sound either, pretty loud and If I would have got under the hood fast enough I could have tracked it down maybe. Also on a side note the previous day I got a weird yellow light on for no reason under heavy acceleration. It was the yellow light with 4 tires in it showing sliding. Anyway it was on for about a min then went out. Dry road no sliding of any kind. I continued to drive the car 140 miles today without an issue.
View 13 RepliesTook car in for normal service (69,000 miles) and had Tranny Fluid Service completed. When I took the car home I noticed some slight tranny slipping while accelerating up to highway speeds (so assuming 4th to 5th gear, maybe 5th to 6th). Took it back to the dealer and after a week it had a new transmission. Took it home and it slipped again, also only accelerating to highway speeds. Took it back and they told me they reset the computer that monitors my driving patterns. OK, not exactly sure what that means. So, now driving to work this morning it slipped (or maybe hesitated is a better word) again when accelerating from about 55 mph to 60 or so. Car has never had issues like this before, gas mileage is still in the 30 mpg range.
View 9 RepliesHow to remove the left foot rest? Mine moves around slightly and makes a creaking sound when it does. I am thinking that if I can remove it, I can clean it up, lube it, and put it back on. But I don't want to just give it a tug and snap something off.

I found same issues on the Sonata forums but I just wanted to know if we elantra users had the same problems like me. Its annoying & I don't find it normal. What can be done ????
View 3 RepliesSo fairly recently, I've noticed a metallic-ish click like noise from my back rear driver side wheel. I hear it on occasion when sitting down in my car and the car tilts slightly. I can reproduce the sound when I take my hand and rock the car just a little bit. What that might be? Or if I should be concerned?
View 9 RepliesSlightly shaking engine and rattling noise on acceleration,it happens when the car is hot and especially when the battery level is very low ,I guess is when as more load . If I accelerate and keep it steady at 20mph I can feel a constant vibration but goes away once accelerating more....like if you're driving on a rippled surface ....that is only when engine is on , doesn't happen on electric only.
The noise it sound like a tapping coming from the engine when slowly accelerating from 0 that goes away as soon I give more gas ,is annoying wile in the traffic.? Can the sparks plugs be the problem?they been changed 120k ago.....,I cleaned the egv pipe but problem still there. Like I said is only when the engine is up to running temperature.
