So I have heard that, it is only good to turn on the ECO mode when you are driving in the city or town. When you drive onto highway, you should turn ECO off. Any good explanation of what is the best method of using the ECO button?
View 26 RepliesIf I'm driving around town and have to accelerate to merge with traffic, the ICE will come on even though I'm in EV mode. I understand why that would/should happen. But why does it stay on for so long after that? It seems like it stays on for several minutes, even if you're driving slow after the the few seconds of acceleration. And I've noticed a few times under the above circumstances that the ICE is clearly on (I can feel it's on) but the dashboard indicator shows it is off. What gives?
View 19 RepliesI have had my 2011 Elantra limited since April. I always have the ECO mode turned on. The light fluctuates when driving as I excepted to. I know the actual mode/light doesn't really do anything, but in the last months or so, it will light up shortly after starting the car and work normal but then decide to not light and never come back on until the car is restarted. I have checked numerous times and the ECO mode is ON.
View 10 RepliesHow I can charge my hybrid battery while driving on city streets with an average speed of 35-45MPH. Once I get off the highway, the hybrid battery is almost full, only missing two "bricks" or "Bars." I will then accelerate very slowly only using the electric motor to drive the vehicle for the next couple of miles.
Once the battery has depleted to where it only has two bars, I will then accelerate a little faster to run the engine so it can charge the battery. But, I bring up the energy monitor and then watch the arrows.. making sure that arrows are coming out of then engine to drive the vehicle AND making sure that the electric motor is not supporting the engine.
If I turn off my AC while driving but leave the fans running, I get a distinct sour/stale smell from the vents.
This also occurs when I turn on the AC. What might be causing this?
Is there a pan or something that needs to be cleaned? There is a fresh Cabin filter installed.
I bought a brand new 2013 elantra last year and currently has 20,000 miles on it. I had custom halos installed as my lights that turn on automatically when the car is on and is on continuously. I also have hids installed into the headlights.
Last week my battery sign came on when I turned the car on and after driving about 20 minutes the car completely stopped and did not turn on. Took it to the dealership and they first denied me warranty saying because of all the aftermarket stuff we cant touch this car for free. So I paid for the diagnostic which was $102 and after they told me that your alternator fried but they are not sure why. Would it be because of the halos and hids??
I just got a new switch from the dealer, only rear fog control (don't have OEM LED's yet), and I want to turn to the right one position, but the HID's come on, and no city lights. What am I missing?

I have a 2001 Elantra GLS 5spd with about 175k. Recently it started driving very sluggish. Under any more than minimal throttle during acceleration or load/resistance (i.e. climbing a hill), it bogs down and will decelerate. No check engine light, no codes, etc. I have replaced the TPS, catalytic converter, Spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, fuel pump, strainer, and fuel pressure regulator. Without any codes, I am at a dead end. I also unplugged the MAP and threw the code for it so I know it is functioning.

I never really pay attention on this ECO thing until someone drove my car and this ECO green light is disappeared and also I tried to check with the toggle button and it saw the ECO mode is OFF but I cannot figure out how to turn it back on?
When I first got my generation III, I had it on Eco. I found this hard to adjust to after being in a Camry. So I got the car out of Eco mode, but didn't put it in either EV or Power mode. I've been assuming this is OK for over 35,000 miles now. Is there something wrong in what I'm doing?

View 3 RepliesI have clearly noticed that in PWR mode, apart from the obvious change in gas pedal response, the ICE tends not to shut down and burn fuel when releasing completely the gas pedal, especially - but no exclusively - at higher speeds (e.g. >90km/h).
In normal or ECO mode the ICE will turn off (though still turning, I know, if at "high speeds") and fuel consumption will show 0L/100km.
With PWR the engine spins and you see a fuel consumption not equal to 0.
My theory is that the engine management will be a bit more aggressive and tend to keep the ICE spinning with gas to make sure that when the gas pedal is pressed the reaction is immediate and there is no lag due to the MG1 spinning it first to turn it on. Moreover, the battery is charged more than just letting the wheels spin, but less than braking, in this way, since the engine can actively drive MG1 to generate energy for the battery (not very efficient, but after all this is PWR mode... ).
This would justify,BTW, in a more scientific way the statement on the User's Manual that says that PWR mode will tend to increase fuel consumption.
I have a 2012 elantra manual transmission. I noticed the eco mode but never found out if it really does anything. when I shift from 1st to 2nd at higher RPMs its rough. At other gears its ok but I feel like the gas pedal is weak sometimes. With a manual does the eco mode make that more difficult?
View 12 RepliesI changed the bulbs from the stock to LED then the error light was showing so I decided to switch back the stock lights (I did this while the lights were on).
And now my city lights will not turn on at all! It is a fuse that is causing this problem?
I have a set of retros with dual turns. I was wondering how to go about wiring up the turns as my city lights (i have a euro switch). Is there a diagram of the wiring anywhere?

Let's explain... when I'm driving in normal mode (without the use of any 3 buttons) it feels like the car is driving in eco-mode. Been to the dealer but they can't find it and they say it's just fine...
So now I'm driving constant in power mode, it's killing my consumption but without power mode it's just not the same as before in normal mode.
Just like the title says, getting crappy mileage. all my driving is city driving and on weekends i go on the highway for about 3 miles to get to work, i4 2013 camry getting 19.8 mpg, does that sound right for just city driving? Car has 6643 miles on it bought it in May 27th.
View 14 RepliesYou arrive at your destination and you are in the middle of listening to a hot news item or a song on the radio. It may be a while before this may finish and so you want to SHUT OFF the engine only and stop idling, but don't want to shut the rest of the electronics off.
So, yes you can do this by turning the engine off and then pressing the start button without placing the foot on the brake paddle. But by then you have lost so much important information streaming down from the radio (as it shuts off when you stop the engine).
So I was wondering if there is a way to go from ENGINE ON mode to just ACCESSORIES only mode without 1st stopping engine, then pressing start button.
When its heavy snow; which mode I should drive; I have 2012-Prius 3rd Gen - 26K Miles; I am driving in Mountain area every day ? The tires are still in good condition.
