I know all Hyundai's 1.8L Nu engines have that quiet ticking noise. But is there a slight knocking sound on the left side of the engine (around the belt area)? Could this be just the timing chain noise? It does this on idle but when on a constant speed/rpm, the engine is quiet.
View 10 RepliesI'm just starting to break in a new 2010 Passat and I hear some slight "knocking" noises at low RPMs during acceleration. It's only got 500 miles on it, so I am assuming it's just a characteristic of these engines; however, I've never owned a VW before so I don't know what is normal. this sound is typical for VW 2.0s? I think I have the PZEV version if that makes a difference.

View 4 RepliesI've been noticing that my 1994 Ford Ranger 2.3L, 4 banger has a slight knocking sound. It is really faint compared to any other rod knock I have heard. An engine compression test shows mid 140's on all cylinders except one of them which is at 125. I'm guessing it isn't receiving enough oil. Can I prevent catastrophe by fixing this early on before a rebuild or replacement has to happen?
View 19 RepliesI have a 2015 Elantra GL. These past couple weeks I have noticed the following:
1) After a long drive, there is a sort of "knocking" sound at the back of my car. It's not too loud but still noticeable. It seems to go back and forth from left to right to left to right, etc.
2) The sound ONLY appears at low speed (under 30km/hr or 20mph) AND when the ride gets a little bumpy (i.e. when I drive over the bump to get into my driveway). It doesn't take a big bump, just a little.
3) The sound ONLY appear after a long drive. When I start driving to work starting on my local roads at low speed over some bumps, there is no sound. But once I reach my work parking lot and I'm driving slowly and there's some minor bumps, I hear the sound. After work when I'm in the same parking lot going at the same low speed over the same bumps, there is no sound. Once I reach home and driving slowly over local road and over driveway bump, the sound appears.
The car is only at 5000km right now. I haven't gotten an oil change yet or any servicing on the car whatsoever. I will be bringing my car into the dealer for it's first oil change in a couple weeks and will ask them about the sound there. To summarize, the sound only appears once I've driven it for awhile (it never happens at start of drive) and if it's going low speed and if it gets slightly bumpy.
I replaced the drivers side CV axle due to the fact my wife and I both heard the famous clicking sound when turning left, I inspected the CV axle and it looked to be in good shape, no tears or rips but I replaced it anyways and now I am hearing and feeling a knocking sound (seems to be coming from the inner shaft, but not positive) when I am driving. It is also vibrating the steering wheel.

View 3 RepliesMy car was driving fine earlier today. I have been hearing a knocking that sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side for awhile now. I have an appointment to get that checked out tomorrow. However, today I washed my car. I washed it by hand and didn't was the engine or spray the under carriage. About an hour after I washed it I got out on the road and it started violently shaking at about 45mph. Other than that it seems to be running fine. It's not missing or making any strange noises. Why it would start shaking like this? I also need to know if I should be able to drive 100 miles to the shop where it is under warranty?

View 14 RepliesMy car has 63 000 km and engine is making loud knocking noise all the time. Dealer took a quick look and he asked head office. Now he wants to run some tests to see which valve is bad. He's hesitating between repairing or replacing the engine. I'm really disappointed of Hyundai quality. I really hope that I get new engine instead of poor repair job.

Today noticed a knockng sound louder than the usual engine knock. It only occurs when we put car in reverse. Checked it with the brakes applied so as to eliminate it coming from any source due to the car moving ie axle/drive connections etc. Putting it in D with brakes on, not moving and it goes away. Put it back in reverse and it recurs.
Tried it even after the engine had warmed to temp guage showing half way. Let car sit for a bit (so engine was still warm) and it repeated. Drove for a few minutes and it would not occur. Shut car off for 1 hour, on restart the engine temp was showing it was still warm and the knock would recur in R.
Long story short, at 77,100 miles, my engine failed yesterday. I bought the car new about 18 months ago, and have used it for work ever since.
After exiting the interstate yesterday, the car started knocking lightly. By the time I got home (about 3-4 miles), it was barely running, and knocking REALLY bad. No check engine lights or anything, and everything was working perfectly until then. I was sent a tow truck under warranty, and it's at the dealer now until Monday when they diagnosis it. This seems ridiculous for a new Hyundai
How to remove the left foot rest? Mine moves around slightly and makes a creaking sound when it does. I am thinking that if I can remove it, I can clean it up, lube it, and put it back on. But I don't want to just give it a tug and snap something off.
View 4 RepliesWeird noise I am hearing with my mothers new Elantra she just picked up. When starting engine has a knocking noise, not kinding. Letting motor run for a few minutes it goes away but is concerning. I was wondering if there is an issue with the MPFI engine which i believe is new this year which replaced the GDI engine. Definitely does not sound normal to me. to me it sounds like a rode knock or hydro lifter issue. Are these engines known for this. My mother traded her 2012 civic for this with 4500 miles. She did not like the seats and dash board layout in it and we got a good deal on this car.
View 17 RepliesI bought a used 2010 GMC Terrain with 28,000 miles on it in April of 2013. Two weeks after I purchased the car I heard a knocking sound and the check engine light came on. Took it to Dealer and they said the car is low on oil. They put in oil. Two weeks later check engine light comes back on. They put it through a test for oil consumption and that they said the car is using an excessive amount of oil. So they had to change out all of the pistons. One month later the check engine light comes back on.
Dealer calls GM and they say to reset computer....... three weeks later check engine light comes back on....... GM now says to dealer it needs a new engine computer. Not an hour after I pick the car up from it lastest stay at the dealer the light comes back on. GM doesn't know what it is. The mechanic at the dealer is awesome he did some research and thinks the problem is the gas. I now need to put in 90 or above so the engine won't knock. Not happy right now I didn't think that I would have to put in a high octane gas when I bought the car. Terrain owners do you have to put in a high octane gas?
I have a 2007 sonata 2.4L with 93k miles that has a knocking sounds coming from the bottom of the engine. It seems that it is a bad rod bearing and was caused by low oil levels. I did not know that the oil was that low (3 quarts low) It started about a week ago. I know I'm gonna have to put it on jack stands and drop the oil pan.

I have a 2014 Superduty with 41000 km on it. I was driving in a remote area yesterday about 53 km from pavement. I stopped for a break and had a very noticeable knocking sound that was more noticeable on the drivers side towards the back of the engine. I had no choice but to keep driving it. the truck ran perfectly fine for the 4 hour trip home(1 hour on gravel and 3 hours on highway) when I stopped a couple of times after that there was definitely no knocking sound an it is not there today, what this could have been? like I said the knocking was so noticeable that you couldn't miss it...
View 11 RepliesSo, I have heard a little bit about the oil pump bolt issue. However, I am still confused. Was this issue fixed for the 2008 model and what are the symptoms? I changed out my valve cover last night due to a PCV valve failure. The car is running great except there is a slight rattling sound coming from the drivers side of the engine at idle. I know I left nothing around the car that could have gotten in the motor when the valve cover was off. This issue was not happening before changing the valve cover. What could be causing this noise, or is it typical for this motor?
View 3 RepliesI just joined this forum some minutes ago, I own of a 2004 XC90 T6 AWD, delivered to me a couple to days ago, just barely getting to know the car, hear a knocking sound from the front passenger seat when i drive on rough roads, and this morning check engine warning sign remained on while driving out, had to park the car at home.
View 4 RepliesStarted a month ago. Whenever I go over a bump, steep incline, or even just turn right (not left) the car makes this creaking, almost groaning, sound from the right rear.
Hard to isolate it since when I push down on the right rear from the outside I can't hear anything. Gonna head into the dealership to see what they think this week but it's always a fight trying to get them to do in warranty service .
