Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Rattle Noise Coming From AC Vent On Lowest Settings
May 15, 2014
I have been noticing a rattle noise coming from the a/c vent with the setting on the lowest. What this may be?

View 4 RepliesOnly on the lowest two settings fan makes a chirping noise, it is a lot worse with the colder weather. It has been going on for over a year now and when I get the oil change I bring it up and they refuse that they hear anything... Finally made appointment for it and they still claim they hear nothing. It sounds exactly like the link here on YouTube... there is also videos on YouTube with tacoma's with the same problem but there is a Toyota Service Bulletin for it.
View 2 RepliesSuspension noise I am getting from my 2011 MD.
This noise occurs only over small shock type bumps IE, train tracks that are not smooth, those reflectors in the road, and the metal plates over construction projects. Any bump that forces the suspension over a small vertical or near vertical drop or rise of about one inch.
In my driveway I have a storm grate about an inch lower than the surrounding pavement and it rattles over this every day. Now the fun part.
The noise is ONLY when I hit such a bump with the right side of the car. The left side rolls over the same bumps smoothly and quietly.
This noise is also only present over the small type bumps discussed earlier. My dealer has a rough road that they use to test suspension noises and the car rolls down it silently. The problem also doesn't manifest itself over speed bumps.
The noise is still present while applying the brakes on which makes me doubt its a caliper float issue.
The strut brace and lower control arm/bushings on the right side have been replaced by the dealer under warranty but they can not seem to get to the root of this problem as both these replacements have had no effect.
From inside the car it is very difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from but it almost seems like the center of from suspension.
I drive a 2011 Elantra and like it quite a lot with the way it looks, interior space, beautiful lighting, fuel economy, etc.
I started hearing rattle while driving over even slight bumps; the sound seems to be coming from both of the upper halves of the B-pillars. Tried spraying plastic contact surfaces with silicon spray but squeaks are still there.
Simple inspection of the upper part of the B-pillar plastic (gray colored, in my case) shows that it has a significant gap between the plastic cover and the pillar...
So now I'm thinking to remove the plastic covers and see what may be at fault, to tighten the way it sits maybe. How to go about taking the thing apart (and then putting it back in place )?
Two 2002 Camrys.
This car is so quiet that the fan is really irritating at any setting above lowest.
Is it replaceable?
I find that my 2010 V6 is always cold in the winter. I always need to turn the temperature control to the highest, but there is still not enough heat. This morning, it was -11c outside. After I drove 10 KM (about 20 minutes) , inside the car is still very cold. My feet were frozen. The air from the vent is only warm, not hot. I also find that this car takes longer to warm up. The temperature gauge won't start to move until I drive about 2.5KM.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2006 Accent and recently the interior lights have gone dim and the switch to adjust them does not make them brighter nor dimmer, why this has happened? I don't usually have it on the brightest but not the lowest either and now it seems to stay on the lowest setting.
View 2 RepliesCurrently have 85k miles. About 20k miles ago I noticed when I have the driver window down I would hear a rattle coming from under the car when accelerating. Doesn't happen every time but does quite often. Usually goes away almost immediately. I'm not having any other issues and with my warranty out I'm not anxious for a drip to the dealer.
View 3 Repliesjust about a week ago, i've noticed this weird rattle coming from the front end, sounds metallic (maybe something is loose) but it only happens when I accelerate from 0-80km/h, but the sound isn't there if I slowly accelerate. Nothing seems to be wrong with how it runs, its just the sound that sounds horrible, like nails on a chalkboard.
Also, I've noticed the engine ticks really loud when it gets started. However, the sound goes away after a minute of idling.
There is about 19,000 kms on it and I got it in January .. I travel a lot maybe a little too much.. I want to take it in to the dealership, but I'm pretty far from it and would like to know what it could be before I take it anywhere to get fixed.
A few weeks ago I started to notice that the battery vent fan was turning on way more than usual. I've had the car now for five years (34K miles) and I've only heard the fan go on a handful of times, even in the hot Las Vegas summers. Once I really started to pay attention to it I noticed the noise only started once I hit about 30-35 mph and got louder as I went faster. As I slowed down, the noise would get quieter and eventually stop as the car came to a stop.
This week I caved and brought the car in to the dealer to get checked out and they did an inspection of the vent, fan and did a complete diagnostic on the hybrid system and batteries. I was worried about damage to the traction battery if the vent fan was malfunctioning or clogged. I'm out of warranty with no extended coverage so I was pretty shocked that the dealer didn't charge me a dime to do the tests. All the tests came back clean and they said all the systems tested above average and that the fan was operating normally so I shouldn't worry about it.
But the noise still persists and it's starting to drive me a little batty. It has never made this much noise before. Is there something else that could be going on that the dealer missed? Maybe the noise I'm hearing is something else and it only sounds like it's coming from that area?
I know this is a long shot but experienced a rattle coming from the center vent section and have a fix for it? Normally small rattles don't bother me, and it's a VW, but it's loud enough that I can hear it over the radio, so it's particularly annoying.
I took the headunit and vent out, tried to tighten the screws that secures the structure that holds the headunit in and looked around, didn't see anything. If you apply pressure to the top of the center vent it makes the rattle go away too.
So at this point, I'll have to take it into the dealer unless someone has a found a fix for it. 3,000 miles and three problems that have required trips to the dealership /end rant
I've noticed there's a bit more road noise in my Elantra in comparison to other competitor cars, and ever since I installed new speakers in the car with much more bass, the doors have been rattling quite a bit.
Sound deadening on the Elantra between the doors? I'm thinking of doing it but I'm not sure if there's enough space for foam or whatever would work best.
I have a Hyundai Elantra Limited 2012. A few months ago the Short Block was replaced because the engine was noisy. Now it started to do that noise, if I remember it's a little bit similar : Youtube video: [URL] .... Or search youtube for: Hyundai elantra 2012 engine rattle noise
It rattled very loud for 1 or 2 seconds on a cold start the other day too. Noise appears to be coming from the engine. It does it pretty much all the time, at idling, when I accelerate it accelerates too and when I slow down it kinds of do too slowly. Need another new short block or is it something else like the timing chain or a bearing?
58,000 miles. Slight "rattle" - very low noise level -coming from area around the glove boxes, or passenger front door, or from outside the car..
View 7 RepliesSo, I have a new neighbor that owns a 2010 Toyota Highlander (out of warranty). Recently, the vehicle has had a on and off "rattle" type of sound that comes from the rear of the vehicle. He has tried to get it into the dealership to take a look, but since it comes and goes, it's hard to duplicate it at times.
Anyway, we noticed that if you put the seats down (60/40 split) then push them up with some force the "rattle" stops for awhile. So, we are thinking that this sound is coming from the rear seats. What to check? Could it not be "latching" properly? It seems solid when you sit in it and rock, or if you push/pull on them.
When I turn the fan on, the sound I get from the vent is *tick* *tick* *tick* *tick* as the fan turns. Does the whole dashboard has to come out fix it? I am hesitant to bring it to the dealer & have him rip the whole thing apart just for the fan ticking, but it sure is annoying too. It started about 6 months ago here.
View 13 RepliesI was wondering if there is a vent setting to just blow air through the cabin or is it required to set a temperature to have the fan blow air?
View 13 RepliesI've had my 2012 Elantra for a year and a half now, and just about a month ago I started noticing a noise coming from the dashboard area on the passenger side. It sounds like a small marble rolling around. I only hear it when I'm taking sharp turns. I've already taken everything out of the glove box, and I checked all of the little compartments in the doors. I even checked under the seats, but I can still hear the noise.
View 18 RepliesOr, do the settings allow for a total a/c off or is there always some a/c assist ?
View 1 RepliesI have a question about the the rear vent. Which AC setting turns on and off the rear vent? I dont see a separate control for the rear vent. Secondly is the rear vent controlled by the driver temperature control or the passenger temperature? I don't see either of these addressed in the manual...
View 8 RepliesI have a 2012 Elantra sedan and I have a ticking noise coming from the engine.......I have had the noise since new.......but it was very faint.......it has gotten worse with time........I had mentioned this to the dealership when it was new but they said it was normal engine noise! It sounds like the older cars used to sound when there was a valve clearance problem.....but with the advent of overhead cams.....I'm not sure what the problem is.........78,000km on engine!
