Experience with rattling coming from the rear/trunk area. My 2013 1500km new limited with Nav have developed a very bad rattle coming from the back.
I have tried removing the rear deck and no luck, There are now nothing in the trunk except for my spare tire kit. the rattle gets louder when I fold down the rear seat. The rattle seems worse and more frequent when the car is between 10 to 60 km/s...
Experienced an occasional (not always) rattle in the passenger rear area of the 2012 Elantra GLS. I have a video on YouTube of this specific rattle that I will post eventually, it says i have to wait a few days until I can post links on here.
View 22 RepliesI had a 12" sub installed in my trunk & was getting a horrendous rattle from the rear deck area. My first instinct was to put Dynamat everywhere but after some googling i ended up filling the underside of the rear deck area with trashbags!! I pushed 5 of them through the opening where you access the 3rd brake light & it now it sounds perfect. I uploaded a video to youtube with a sound test.....
View 6 RepliesNothing is more annoying to me than constant rattles and noises in a vehicle. My 2012 Limited Elantra makes a couple of noises that are really annoying. The first is a constant light rattle the seems to come from the dome light area or the sunroof. I haven't been able to pinpoint it, but it drives me nuts. The other noise comes from the back doors area, or maybe the pillars. It happens on both sides, but mostly on the drivers side, and it only happens when the car goes over certain bumps, or when I take a curve a certain way. It almost sounds like a cracking noise. I've heard of glove compartment rattles, but that doesn't seem to happen with my car.
View 87 RepliesI had a friend drive my car while I was in the rear hatch area trying to find a bad rattle. I discovered that it is inside a large plastic panel just where the rear window wiper motor would be. I'm sure if I could safely remove this large panel, I could find out what the rattle is and quiet it.
How to remove this panel? Are there some hidden bolts or screws? I don't want to force-pry it off if that is not the proper way to remove it. I'd sure rather do this myself than go thru the dealer rigmarole.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited and have noticed a rattle in the front driver's door area near the Dash. It's hard to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from. The rattle can be heard even on smoothish roads and sounds like a little screw or something else is loose or rubbing against something. I checked that sunglasses holder and made sure nothing was in there but the rattle is still there.

When my 2006 GS 300 sits out in the sun and gets hot, there is a very distinctive rattle that comes from the trunk area. Last summer this happened, and I just lubed the latch mechanism with some white lithium grease, but now it's back and lube does nothing.
View 2 RepliesI had a creaking in the sunroof that the dealer resolved a while ago but now have one or 2 rattles from the inside back area (maybe the hatch) even on small bumps. I already took everything out except the spare tire and don't think that is it.

View 6 RepliesMy MY2012 Passat 2.5 SE currently at 37k miles all of a sudden is showing clear coat peeling near the trunk/rear panel area. Car is a CPO and clean carfax (no accidents) and currently still under warranty. Planning on taking it back to the dealership and hopefully start a case for warranty work under VWoA.
I've never encountered clearcoat failure this early on, case in point my B5 (MY1999) still has excellent clear coat uniformity despite the paint/body being 17+ years old.
I have a 2008 2.0t 6mt. A few months ago I started hearing a rattle coming from either the area under the rear window or in the trunk coming from the right side. It's not just a little rattle like a screw is loose... It sounds like a large hunk of metal or plastic is flopping back and forth. It's most noticeable at low speeds on rough roads and I think it's gotten louder over time. I recently moved to Richmond VA and the roads here are horrendous. It's not a faint noise either. Each time I drive with somebody new, its the first thing they notice. Folding the rear seats down definitely makes the rattle louder. I can sorta reproduce the sound when I rock the car back and forth.

View 8 RepliesI have a prius c 2 2012 and we just got about 8-9 inches of snow and after driving in the storm to work when I start up my prius or step on the gas to merge onto say a highway I have a small rattle noise in the rear/ muffler area under the car. My dad says it could just be build up of snow and ice under the car.

View 24 Replies2012 Prius Five- Had an annoying vibration coming from the trunk area at highway speeds- especially on concrete roadways. First thought was the problematic rear license plate/frame that I've read about- so I used some felt pads around the rear plate & frame but still had the annoying vibration ad highway speeds. Over the weekend I had some spare time so I started poking around in the trunk area by rapping in several areas with a heavy hand till I heard the same (or similar frequency) vibrating sound.
Eventually I was able to isolate it to somewhere under the rear deck. I removed the carpet, then plastic deck then even the spare, etc., Found it was actually coming from the sheet metal box that surrounds the connections coming from the car and relays to the hybrid battery box. Seems the metal edges of that small connections/relay enclosure were just touching the battery box metal enclosure just lightly enough to vibrate under certain conditions. But how to fix?
To make a long story short- I disconnected the 12v battery, removed the black exhaust duct over small metal cover, removed the battery cooling fan intake shroud, then two annoying orange lock rivets, then a few 10mm nuts and one 10mm bolt- and finally the metal connection/relay cover came off.
Once off- I used black electric tape to line every seam where that metal cover touched the battery box metal cover or car frame- I then lined the battery box metal cover the same way in the areas where the connection/relay cover mated on it. Reassembly was the reverse of disassembly. Upon ride to work this morning- vibration was 100% gone- fixed!
Some customers may experience a buzz or slight rattle noise from the rear portion of the headliner when the vehicle hits small sharp bumps. It has been determined that the source of such a rattle may be the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) antenna located above the headliner between the rear of the sliding roof opening and the top of the back glass.
Well, after a few months of frustration hearing a buzzing in the back seats, i notice this bulletin on the 07 ES and I've tested on my 08 car and it is the same, simply tapping on the roof liner or pulling it and releasing it makes a buzzing sound. Even when i tap on the glass roof, the buzzing sound is resonating. Would the dealer rectify this issue if my car is a 08 ? I'm still under warranty.
When you press your remote, trunk will stay closed and won't open. Must use the lever under the seat for opening it. What can cause this issue.
Battery is new. Also there is some another issue, didn't look it yet, one of the plate lamp is not working while trunk is closed. When you lift up your trunk it will begin work, when you close - no work.I assume there is some wire connection problem, but how it might affect the opening a trunk?
I just noticed a burnt smell in the trunk of my 2013 Elantra Limited with 4,000 miles. You can't smell it inside the car. Called the dealer and was told, "Oh, don't worry, that's the burn-in smell", it will go away in a few weeks".
View 5 RepliesI have a 2013 Hyundai Elenatra 7 months old. the trunk opens by itself very often. I asked at the service department at the dealership and they say never heard of this problem. Also I came out yesterday the battery was dead even thought nothing was left on. I fell there must be some electrical or switching problem with this car.

We have removed all the trunk mats and spare tire insulation trying to air them out and the smell still persists. It smells like something is burning or has burnt near the wheel wells or the back fold down seats. How to get rid of it?
