I have the 2012 Limited and I have noticed recently, or maybe it has always been like that and i just noticed it. When I shift gears put it in reverse or in drive, there is a knock or ping. How it can be fixed?
View 3 RepliesIt only really happens when the car has not been warmed up, like first thing in the morning. Aside from the noise, the car shifts and drives normally. Noise just developed, 28k on the car, it is a 2012 elantra. As I shift from P to R while backing out of my garage there is a metallic clink/ping as the transmission engages.
It is not a CLUNK sounds, it is deff more on the side of a metallic clink...
My 2010 Corolla LE with 1.8L engine with auto transmission has about 37,400 miles on it. Ever since I bought it with 7k miles I notice a slight knock/ping sound when I accelerate up to 40 mph. The car is certified up to 100k.
Also, on cold starts recently, it seems to make a loud noise. Hard to describe but it's almost like something is grinding for a second or two. This does not seem to happen all the time.
My 2013 Accord V6 EX-L with 5,000 miles emits a strange sound, under certain circumstances. The sound is hard to describe but reminds me of the old days when your engine would "ping" or "knock" if you used gas with too little octane. Of course, the current Accord only requires regular gas. At any rate when cruising between about 45 and 60 MPH, if you push on the accelerator (not enough to cause a downshift) and especially if on a small incline, you hear a very distinct knocking or rattling sound. Over the past 6 months, the sound seems to become more frequent and noticeable.
I have been to the dealer and the service manager drove the car and agrees he hears the sound. But after consulting with Honda engineering they concluded it is "characteristic" of this engine. They say it emanates from the "paddles" (??) within the automatic transmission vibrating or rattling. After being told that, I drove 2 other 2013 V6 Accords on their lot, and they both made the same sound. My question is, do any other owners notice this? I find it very distracting and also disappointing after paying so much for a new vehicle only to own something that strikes me as deficient.
How can Honda produce and distribute a vehicle with this annoying and obtrusive characteristic? It is hard to believe they did not catch this and fix it during product development. I even drove a 2014 V6 Accord last week and could just make out the beginnings of this same sound, so apparently it was not engineered out for 2014. This makes me lose confidence in long term ownership of the vehicle as well as fearful of potential future transmission problems.
I am hearing a quiet knock from my 2013 accent, especially when accelerating or going uphill on low RPM. I am getting about 34 MPG after burning a tank of regular gas (87 octane rating) on my commute which is about 2/3rds 50-70mph freeway and 1/3rd stop and go traffic. I usually get more MPG than what the EPA rating is, so that number seems a little bit low to me, but I just got the car used, so I don't know what's "Normal" for it. Idle is pretty quiet though.
I would give a video where you can hear it, but honestly it is pretty hard to hear from inside the car. I generally have to be near a wall with the windows down or something to be able to hear it clearly.

Also, there are no lights showing on the dashboard besides the ECO light since I have been running the car in that mode. Is it possible that there could be codes that might give more information even though nothing is showing on the dashboard?
2002 5.4 super duty. My truck had started to ping, and knock worse over time. I did some research on this site, and I decided to remove my K&N air filter. Replace it with a traditional paper filter. Then I cleaned my mass air flow sensor. The results were great, no more knock and ping.I will check the MPG next to see if I get any improvements.
View 1 RepliesAbout 9/10 times when I step on my brake pedal (speed has not made a difference) I can hear and feel a hard knock under my car by my resting left foot. Started a few weeks ago. Haven't had work done to my brakes since May 2015 so I am thinking it is unrelated. What the issue might be?
View 2 RepliesFor the last few weeks (about a month) I have been experiencing a clunking noise/ knock on acceleration coming from either in front of my feet or below my feet (drivers side) ONLY on acceleration and only then from a full stop. I can also feel the clunk as well which leads me to believe it is a transmission mount.....maybe an engine mount. I am taking her to the dealer after work today. we had some very cold weather and I was hoping it was just ice but yesterday and today were well above zero and it is still there and it is EVERY time I accelerate. Which is a somewhat good thing since I will be able to replicate the problem for Hyundai.....

I am careful always to complete maintenance at the agency, about a week ago I noticed the sound of a knock, this sound emerges mostly from right tire when crossing over the bumps in the road and also when the road is rough,but when the car is going in the proper ways I do not hear this sound.
I went to the agency and examined the car, and they told me that the problem is in the steering tie rod and they changed already yesterday.
But still this sound exists, but I felt that it had increased
I want to know what is the possible cause of this sound? How can I check it? And which part may be defected?

Just noticed when changing from reverse to drive, a pop sound is heard on my 2013 elantra. Also noticed if I'm traveling at low city traffic speed, and I take my foot off the accelerator, it pops too. Going to dealer on Saturday for oil change, gonna let them know.
View 26 RepliesI had a question about a few things with my Elantra. I've had it for around one month now, and it's my first car, ever. Now, everything is running great and have no problems so far, but I've become a nervous wreck about every little thing that I notice about the car. I worry something may be wrong with it. I know I am most likely being irrational, but I just wanted to check with fellow drivers to see if this is normal.
Now, one things I keep noticing about the car is that it kind of lurches a little when shifting. This happens mostly when breaking, but did a little when accelerating to, but it has smoothed out over time. Now, I believe it's the transmission shifting and maybe it still needs to be broken in a little. Right now I'm at about 930 miles on the ODO.
I absolutely love this car and it's perfect for me, but this makes me so protective and obsessive over every little thing. I just love this car so much.
2011 Elantra Limited, auto, 15,700 miles. Past couple of days I have experienced very rough shifts in all gears. First noticed on Saturday. Drove about 10 miles Saturday morning, then parked until around 4pm. Car started normally but rough shifts for first 5 miles.
It felt like the car would drop out of gear when shifting, then go back into the correct gear. There was definitely a "pause" before it went into gear, like bouncing up a set of stairs. Problem resolved itself and did not reoccur until this afternoon. Car was parked for 1-2 hours. Same rough shifting for 3-4 miles.
My Hyundai Elantra 2014 SE makes a cool psst sound when shifting to 2nd gear (haven't tested next gears). It makes me feel like I have a Turbo! The sound is very low, tho. It only happens when i accelerate the car hard. Anyway, i don't think this is normal.
View 9 RepliesI purchased my car almost two years ago. I drive a lot for work, and my car now has 74000 kilometers on it.
So far its gone thru 3 CV Axle Joints on the drivers side, a radio unit, clutch bearing, fork, and fulcrum, and now there's something wore out in the rear suspension (squeaking and snapping).
The transmission in mine has also started to grind when shifting like the syncros are wearing out. Motor knocks when it's cold, sounds like the top end goes dry of oil when sitting overnight and takes awhile to get any.
Recently changed the transmission fluid in my 2011 Elantra. Used the fill plug to check fluid. Small steady stream was coming out. Closed it up and took it for a ride. Was shifting very rough. Put more in and it felt better. Was wondering if there is a better way to check the fluid? I've heard that the dealer may have a sensor, is this true?
View 2 RepliesHave had some issues with some intermittent clunking when I shift or let off the gas. It only clunks when shifting from 1-2 or 2-3 or when I am btw 1500-2500 rpms and let off the gas to coast a bit. There are times when it won't clunk at all or it does it all the time, I can shift fast or slow doesn't matter. The dealership I bought the car from couldn't find anything wrong on my last service. Also when I put the clutch in sometimes I hear a bit of a clunk as well. Also I notice moving the shifter from gear to gear when shifting feels very notchy, but most of the times its smooth.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2012 elantra limited about 9 month's old with about 14,000 miles on it.
About a week ago I began noticing a burning smell. I first chalked it up to being 1,000 over the 3k mark for an oil change. However I then started to pay attention when I parked if there was any sign of fluids leaking. At first I didn't notice any or seemed like one or two drips. Well tonight I noticed a larger puddle that was def not water.
The other symptom is that it's been shifting up at higher RPMs. Tonight when I got on the freeway I was trying to speed up to 65 but the rpm gauge had me at over 4,000 rpms with normal acceleration...I was not gunning it. I also could not get the car to go past 60 at first, all the while the rpm increasing still, until I let off the gas then hit it again and seemed to trip it to shift and was able to get to 65.
Well something I never thought would happen with only 14,313 babied miles on my 2013 silver Elantra. I was driving home from my mothers house and I thought I hit a pothole, next I stopped at a stop sign took off and it started shifting very rough through most of the gears. I drove it around for 30 minutes and it was pretty bad. I decided to get it towed, I don't feel like breaking down in it.
View 12 RepliesI am hearing a clicking sound when shifting and perhaps an unrelated but similar click when I am pressing the gas peddle from a stop. Perhaps a CV joint? I'm taking the car in to the dealer (approximately 79,000 km or 48,000 miles) on the 20th to give the car a once over.
View 6 RepliesHad problem with downshifting and up shifting quickly on its own and then engine light came on. 24,400 mi. Code P0713 Trans Temp Sensor "A" Circuit Input. They replaced it in a few hours and we will see how it goes. Had also had a problem of acceleration by its self when we first bought it and the gas mileage not being to par. Of course they said they haven't heard of that and they did an update/flash and haven't had that problem again, also had a broke front axle.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2012 elantra manual transmission. I noticed the eco mode but never found out if it really does anything. when I shift from 1st to 2nd at higher RPMs its rough. At other gears its ok but I feel like the gas pedal is weak sometimes. With a manual does the eco mode make that more difficult?
