So fairly recently, I've noticed a metallic-ish click like noise from my back rear driver side wheel. I hear it on occasion when sitting down in my car and the car tilts slightly. I can reproduce the sound when I take my hand and rock the car just a little bit. What that might be? Or if I should be concerned?
View 9 RepliesI have a clicking sound coming from the front right wheel, happens while driving straight or turning. My guy checked the cv boots, axle bolt, various other connections that seem fine. Then he takes a phrase out of Satan's handbook and says "take it to the dealer". I saw the horns on his head and the red eyes while he was saying it. So I made apt for next week. I don't think it's anything serious , Orr maybe it's something to do with the rotor, caliper, break pads ? Everything else seems tight.
View 3 RepliesWas about three blocks from home when the front of the car started making a horrific metallic scraping sound as the front wheel turned. I mean LOUD. Did a quick look for something stuck in the wheels somewhere but nothing. It's not like a branch stuck in the wheel sound, but scraping a shovel on a steel beam kind of sound. Braking seems to change the makeup of the sound, but did not stop it. Parked it in the garage.
I pulled the left wheel off, looked and looked, and looked. Nothing. Fear and sadness setting in. Everything looked normal....except....a faint line on the rotor very near the inside edge. Got a mirror and looked some more, and there, wedged on the inside edge of the pad's metal part and the rotor, was a rock the size of a bb. At most. Got a small screwdriver and hammer and popped it out. Done. Sheesh.
Seriously it was so loud it was amazing. So store in file folder for future reference if needed.
The line can be felt barely with a fingernail and is half the width of a pencil lead, and goes under the innermost 1/8" of the pad. I'm thinking do I want the dealer to pull and turn it, or is it going to affect my braking at all. Pretty much gonna leave it be I think.
I noticed that every time I hit my brakes, I heard a clicking sound and a little bit feel at my shifter lever. I found same issues on the Sonata forums but I just wanted to know if we elantra users had the same problems like me. Its annoying & I don't find it normal. What can be done ????
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra and I have had it for almost a year. Its been snowing here in Tennessee. I went to start my car and wont start. All the lights come on, radio, etc.I have tried jumping the car and wont work, even tried changing out battery. Not sure if theres any known issues going on or if it has to do with it being cold.

Most of the time when I go over little divest in the road; just large enough to barely feel, I hear a metallic clicking sound from the front passenger side of the vehicle. It is only audible with the windows down. It only happens if I am going faster than around 10mph. Sometimes I hear a similar sound from the drivers side, but not as much as the passenger side. I do not usually hear it when hitting larger bumps that work the shocks a bit harder.
It really sounds like some loose bits of metal contacting each other. I do not see anything obvious with a quick visual inspection, but I have not raised the vehicle to really get a good look down there.
There is a medium sounding clicking coming from the gear selector area. I understand this must be the mechanism that prevents you from accidentally going into reverse when you are driving. However, the sound really is irritating and the car did not used to do this. I have taken it to the dealer, which states it is normal and there is nothing to fix. I have been doing some research online and it appears an easy fix is to just grease it back up. It appears over time the grease comes off or something. That being said, how do I get the initial gray plate off? (see picture)
View 6 RepliesSo my 2014 Elantra makes a tapping/ticking sound on cold starts which stays audible after the oil gets up to temp for at least until about 10 minutes of driving. I've heard this noise since I bought the car and of course kept searching all over the forums but everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what causes it and if it's normal or not. I finally decided to drop my car off at the dealer overnight so they could start in the morning and diagnose it. They listened, ran some tests on the engine and said everything was fine, nothing was damaged and that the sound is from the second fuel pump that is located over the engine.
They tested my fuel and said it's making the sound because I'm using a heavy fuel quality, then the tech told me I should run a fuel cleaner every other time I fill the car up. This seems excessive to me? I only fill my car up with Shell gas and avoid discount places which the tech agreed that Shell gas should be fine. I only have 22k miles on the car do I really need to be running cleaners every other tank of gas? Also wondering if using non ethanol gas would fix this problem. I did run 1 tank of non-ethanol but didn't notice a difference and since non-ethanol costs more than premium I went back to regular. I will try a fuel cleaner though?
I have a 2012 Elantra limited. About 2 weeks ago I've started to hear a clicking noise coming from the gearbox when brake pedal is pressed and let go. This only happens when the car is at standstill. I took it in for service today and sales rep said its a normal clicking noise and his sisters car makes same sound. He said its an actuator motor engaging to allow the car to shift when brake is pressed. The thing is, the clicking was never there before or maybe not so loud. So what should I do? Car is still under warranty, should I demand for them to replace the actuating motor? Maybe call Hyundai and complain that they said the noise is normal ?

I originally thought it was a rock in the tire because I could only hear it with the windows down. The sound has progressed to something more metallic and I have checked for rocks in tire several times. What it could be?
View 3 RepliesHaving a problem with my 2000 Expedition AWD/4WD. When I'm braking to a stop, there's a metallic clicking coming from my LR wheel. Doesn't matter if brakes are applied or it's rolling free. Starts at about 8 mph and stops at around 2-3. Had a broken parking brake cable, but clicking is still there after replacement. What's next? Wheel speed sensor, perhaps?
View 2 RepliesSo I decided to drive my car this morning after almost 2 weeks of it sitting in the garage, got to the parking structure, pushed the button to lower the windows so I can swipe my auto parking card and it rolled down fine. Then tried to close the window and heard this metallic clicking sound and the window wouldn't raise. Called the dealership and drove right to them to look into it. Now I am stuck with a Jetta until my car is fixed.

Few months back I refueled my tank with degraded fuel (of course i did not know about it and some refueling stations in our country mix oils) and the problems started to arise with my car.. initially it all started with jerks and cracking sounds from the engine.. I then took it to the dealership and cleaned everything except the injectors but the jerking and cracking problem was solved.. but it still had a pickup problem.. whenever i tried to accelerate from 40km/h to above, the transmission seems to give a jolt make a clicking sound when downshifting.. and the acceleration compared to before has degraded.. I took it to the dealership again and their answer was drive it for 300 km more everything will b fine.. but i have driven the car for 1000 km more but the problem is not solving.. I don't know.. my warranty period is over.. in our country they only provide for 12000 km or 1 yr warranty.. now i have checked online and it seems Elantra transmission has bugged a lot of ppl..
View 19 RepliesOur 2012 elantra gls with 112k miles on it decided to freak out yesterday.
Car wont turn over at all. there is also a clicking sound coming from the interior fuse block. I popped the hood and smelled sulfur. I put the volt meter to the battery and it shows 12.8 ish. I checked all the fuses and didn't find any blown. I also pulled the starter relay and tested it and it checked out.
Trying to turn the car over some times the dash light will flicker and the wipers will turn on by themselves. I also had a clicking sound coming from the fuse block under the hood. Interior lights come on but are dim and the parking light flicker a bit and fade. I downloaded the manual but am not sure what to look for at this point.
When I turn hard right & left, near the left wheel well there's a little metallic clicking sound. Either way I still don't what it is. Upon inspection when I removed the wheel the I noticed that the red portion with the large arrow is able to move clockwise and counter clockwise. Just curious as to whether or not this should be capable of happening.
Wheel baring, control arm and bushings have been mentioned from Le Shwab's workers... I dunno though I need Vortex's opinion
When collar 3 is turned all the way down it can't rotate, but I'm almost positive that collar 2 and 3 are suppose to remain in contact with one another to prevent movement of collar 1. Just making sure that my theories are correct.
My 2011 elantra started making a sound when I turn all the way to the right and slightly again once you release the wheel. It pretty much sounds like a rusty coil being stretched to it's limit. It happens while driving and turning right as well as when the car is not in motion and turning the wheel all the way to the right. Not sure what it could be.
View 21 RepliesI've started noticing this only when she's cold and I have to back out of the garage in the morning. I generally wait 5-10 seconds after I start the engine before going into reverse but lately I've noticed a muffled metallic 'pank' coming from the engine compartment when the reverse gear engages. I can't say I feel any 'thump' to go with it and I'm racking my brain to see if this is a new development and I have a possible transmission issue or if it's been there all along and I never noticed.

View 5 RepliesEarly this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
On our 2016, it's got this weird scratching sound.. It is so faint, but definitely noticeable. It SOUNDS like it's coming from the driver wheel area; or perhaps under driver dash/footwell. I've looked at the brake rotor/suspension and everything looks good.
It isn't solid either; it'll do it SOMETIMES with the brakes, on starts/stops, and SOMETIMES it does it going over a speed bump... It literally sounds like someone scratching their finger across the rough part of the dash...
just about a week ago, i've noticed this weird rattle coming from the front end, sounds metallic (maybe something is loose) but it only happens when I accelerate from 0-80km/h, but the sound isn't there if I slowly accelerate. Nothing seems to be wrong with how it runs, its just the sound that sounds horrible, like nails on a chalkboard.
Also, I've noticed the engine ticks really loud when it gets started. However, the sound goes away after a minute of idling.
There is about 19,000 kms on it and I got it in January .. I travel a lot maybe a little too much.. I want to take it in to the dealership, but I'm pretty far from it and would like to know what it could be before I take it anywhere to get fixed.
