When I start my car I hear this very loud noise. I think it is coming from the exhaust but not sure. This only happens when the car is cold(not weather) and after a few minutes the noise is gone. I have aftermarket lowering springs on the car, do you think that caused the problem?(I'm thinking no)...
View 4 RepliesI just bought a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS (Canadian model) with 44k km. When I first test drove the car, the dealer (Honda) had the car warmed up and ready to go. As a result, I didn't notice the loud engine or anything. All I noticed is the engine was louder on acceleration versus my 2008 accord. I already bought the car but today I asked to test drive the car again (I'm excited) and noticed a loud ticking on startup? I asked the Honda dealer what was wrong and they simply said Hyundais are louder than Hondas. My 2008 accord has a ticking engine already but Honda is rebuilding the engine. This car is ticking louder than my 2008 accord. However, the car does quiet down when the engine is warm.

It's definitely much louder with the hood up--doesn't seem quite as drastic when sitting in the driver's seat.
I've come across the thread here on the engine rattle/knock fix, but I'm not sure if this is the same thing. Would this be considered a knock?
It's a 2011 Elantra with about 82,000 miles on the odometer. It has an extended warranty on it, in addition to the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty on it, so it's at the dealership this morning.
Hearing weird noises at car start-up from the engine?
My 13' Elantra Sedan has around 3K on it and a weird noise comes from the engine at start-up.
Sometimes it goes away quickly and sometimes it will linger for a while.
Twice during the 6 months that we have owned our 2010 Prius, a loud clattering noise from under the hood occurred upon startup. After shutting it down and restarting, all was normal. It sounded like an engine that was getting ready to throw a connecting rod. The dealer could find nothing wrong and when I contacted Toyota's hot line, they were clueless as well. One service writer suggested the ABS as the source, but I've owned 5 other cars with ABS and never heard anything like it.
View 2 Replies6.2L F250 truck is just shy of 60k runs good however on cold startup there's now a pretty loud ticking noise for a short period (30 seconds) until it warms up then it slowly goes away. Once its warmed up there isn't much of anything.
Did these have exhaust manifold gasket problems like the 5.4? Hoping that's it if not, any other common problems that would make that ticking noise and then go away quickly once the engine is warmed up.
Now that we've had negative temps, in the morning on these extreme cold startups, there is a spinning sound coming from the radio / cd that goes for about a minute then doesn't come back. (No cd inside.)
(I'd like to know something before I go into dealer). And no, it's not a subtle sound. Sounds like a cd is trying to eject. And yes, I'm positive it's coming from the radio.
I have a 2009 Gen III T Spirit. Recently, and I think following the recent reflash, I have been getting an extra noise on cold startup. It is a scratching noise that lasts just a couple of seconds about 4 or 5 seconds after pressing the start button. I have tried to attach a short recording but cannot upload an mp3 file so have made it into a zip file.
I have checked whether it is radio by removing fuses 8 and 28 and have also switched off the heater fan, both without any effect.
My 2012 with 5300 miles on it (oil change at 4400 miles) is now making a pretty significant lower end knocking noise at WARM STARTUP, as in when the car sits for about 10 minutes when I go into the store. It lasts for about two seconds, but it's significant and it's loud. It seems to have started about 500 miles ago and I can't say it was due to the oil change. Oil level is full and clean - I check it every weekend, even on a new car. Could this be a timing chain noise? Don't know. All I do know for certain is that this is very irritating and embarrassing for a new car. People around my car when I start it look at me like and seem to say "Really?"
Cold startup on my car is actually surprisingly quiet, compared to my Nissan Frontier V6.
I hadn't driven my car for nearly a month and when I returned I noticed a rather loud "clunking" noise when moving the A/T out of park. The sound is coming from the steering column and is quite pronounced. Is it normal?
I am also hearing a sound something like a bad wheel-bearing while accelerating that I never heard before. It sounds like it's coming from the front end of the car.
I just purchased my new Elantra 2 weeks ago. A few days later, just after I started it first thing in the morning, it began making a loud flapping noise (seemed to be coming from under the hood). It's been doing it every morning since. The dealership said they couldn't hear anything unusual (after keeping it overnight, then starting it up first thing the next morning).

He's hesitating between repairing or replacing the engine. I'm really disappointed of Hyundai quality. I really hope that I get new engine instead of poor repair job.

I can't tell if it is coming from the front, or back of the car. Many of the threads on here seem to be talking about a common rear shocks issue? Also read a lot about faulty struts? Swaybar?
After replacing the OEM tires at 25,000 I bought new tires at Discount Tire. Road noise seems louder. Would under coating work and is undercoating recommended by Hyundai?
View 18 RepliesI have a 2012 Elantra with 25k miles and after the car sits for about 2 hours, there is a loud clattering noise coming from the exhaust when running. Mainly when I first start it up and take off down the road. After about 2 mins of driving, it's a lot quieter.
Anyways, I raised it up a bit today and everything looks normal, but using a mallet, I knocked all over the exhaust a bit and it all seems to make a rattle noise. Mine started about 1 month ago.
I replaced my GF's water pump, timing belt, tensioner and roller on her 05 Elantra. WHen I started the car up I can hear a loud whine from the belt.
Everwhere I searched I read that it's too tight.

At around 9:11, when the guy starts the car it's the same exact whine? Is this normal or something with a brand new belt? Or did he tighten it too much? Or is it because her timing belt covers are missing the rubber grommets, and there is a HOLE in the side of one of them. So am i getting the full brunt force of the timing belt?
I have a 2014 Elantra, today it would not start, only loud clicking noise and lights flash. I moved gear shift to neutral same results, moved back into park same results. Do not think its a battery issue.
View 11 RepliesI have noticed that when the car was in park today right after I started her I heard a semi loud tapping noise coming from the engine... It slowed down when I turned the wheels or played with the brakes... As I went into drive the noise went away after about 20 feet of driving..
What this could be? Is it normal... Just bought the car last week with 45K miles on it and just want to make sure if it is a normal noise or not or whether I should bring her into the dealer.
