So i'm only a week and a half into owning my Elantra, 800km on it and today when i started the engine i noticed a clicking/rattling sound, like the noise when someone sticks a piece of paper into a fan. Anyway it's quite minimal and you could hear it louder when you accelerate. I never noticed it before, even when i test drove the vehicle.
View 3 RepliesMy girlfriend owns a 2012 Elantra limited with approximately 20k miles on it. Two weeks ago she asked me to listen to it, because it was making a clicking noise. We've had sub zero temps here in Wisconsin, so I assumed it was the normal cold start up noise.
I quickly realized it was something much worse. It sounded like the timing chain was making noise. We took it to the dealer ASAP. They tore into it and said that the timing chain tensioner had failed. Now ten days later they called and notified us that the engine was still making noise after the tensioner had been replaced and the oil pan is full of metal shavings. It sounds like they will be replacing the engine.
Several times when I started my 2014 Elantra I herd a lot of rattling just like a diesel that lasted around 5 min. I recorded the sound and took car to the nearest dealer in about 100 miles. Two times I left over night so they could hear the sound in AM on first start up. But of course it didn't do it for them and they said they could not diagnose but they did hear clicking noise. When I played the recording said sounds just like a diesel. That's it they did nothing. Now it doesn't sound quite so bad just rattling and clicking. It only 40k miles and still under warranty to 60k. What should I do? Next nearest dealer is about 100 miles. I thought about trading it but I do like the car.
View 12 RepliesRecently, my 04 accent (97,000 miles on engine and auto trans) has started to develop a rattling or Clanking noise coming from the engine at low RPM's. I flushed the engine and changed the oil and oil filter, thinking it could be due to oil clogging the HLA, But this was a no go. The engine is still making the noise, and I think it is starting to get worse.
The noise only happens when the car is idling at low RPM's. As soon as I rev the engine past 1000-1500 RPM's, the noise stops. The noise is worse when idling in gear, either reverse or drive, however as soon as you accelerate past 1000-1500 RPM, the noise goes away, until you decelerate to low RPM again. I'll try to take a video of it and post a link to it on here tomorrow.
I have a 2004 explorer that has a clicking/rattling noise in the front of the engine. What i found is that the bottom pulley has a sleeve or ring inside of that pulley that is just floating loosely back and forth. What this is or what it is supposed to be ??? If it is a bad part, what is the best way to fix it ?
View 12 RepliesEvery time we turned right in our 2013 elantra, I kept hearing a clicking noise, almost like a cv joint going out. So we took it in to the dealership to look at that as well as our peeling steering wheel. They informed me I have a bent rear cross member (I coulda swore that noise was coming from the front). I'm not sure if a cross member is the right word, because its the structural piece that connects the two rear wheels together, so ill call it an axle. The drivers side rear wheel was bent in both directions; the top was bent out and the front of the wheel was bent in I think. They showed this to me, and it was definitely bent all out of wack. The thing is, neither me nor my wife can recall a time when we hit a significant enough of a pothole/curb in order to do this kind of damage! Either way, it has to be fixed.
View 7 RepliesI hadn't driven my car for nearly a month and when I returned I noticed a rather loud "clunking" noise when moving the A/T out of park. The sound is coming from the steering column and is quite pronounced. Is it normal?
I am also hearing a sound something like a bad wheel-bearing while accelerating that I never heard before. It sounds like it's coming from the front end of the car.
My concern is I have some intermittent clicking/clunking noise. What causes it is if I start out whether fwd or rev. Or if I am going slow in 1st gear and I let off the gas to slow down or press the gas to speed up (btw 1000rpms and 2000rpms) I was told this noise is the clutch engaging or disengaging, which doesn't make sense because when it happens the clutch is fully engaged.
I have had this noise before 2X and there were things that were loose, which were tightened up and the noise went away. This time local dealer told me sound is normal and to keep an eye on it. To me it doesn't sound right cause its noises I didn't notice before.
On my 13 Elantra since the day I got it almost 2 year's now has always made this click noise when I disengaged the clutch and go, (not the clutch solenoid noise similar) I'll hear the clutch solenoid then almost like my left front brake was slightly sticking it makes a click like the caliper's popping loose!? I've mentioned it the stealership & nothing they tried to tell me the dust shield was touching however the noise came back within minutes I noticed it! It's just one of those annoying sound's that you need to figure out or go crazy, stick model, could it be the clutch fork or bearing releasing just can't figure it out.
View 4 RepliesI've never owned a car with TC AWD yes but not front wheel w/traction control! At times when slightly spinning on ice or in snow I'll hear a 'click,click,click until I let up or it gets traction, is this a normal sound?.
View 11 RepliesA while ago, I complained about a clicking/clapping sound when I fiddle around with the clutch. I took my car to the dealer today. I let him hear the problem and he instantly knew the problem. 3 minutes for diagnostic. 1 minute for paper work. 1 hour and 26 minutes of labor. DONE. When I let the mechanic hear the noise he rolled his eyes and said, "All newer Elantra's do this".
I was lucky because the customer before me had the same problem and he/she didn't show up on their time slot. The parts were there already and he brought my car in. He said the problem was a bad axle nut, and needs a new spacer, or something. Some dealers tighten it but he highly recommends getting a new one.
After an hour and a half I was gone.

I have a 2014 Elantra, today it would not start, only loud clicking noise and lights flash. I moved gear shift to neutral same results, moved back into park same results. Do not think its a battery issue.
View 11 RepliesI am hearing a clicking sound when shifting and perhaps an unrelated but similar click when I am pressing the gas peddle from a stop. Perhaps a CV joint? I'm taking the car in to the dealer (approximately 79,000 km or 48,000 miles) on the 20th to give the car a once over.
View 6 RepliesI just started hearing a loud click when I change from park to reverse and from reverse to drive. If I keep moving the knob between those three spots with my foot on the brake and hand brake off, I hear a loud click at each spot. Hard to describe... anyway, this only happens when I first start the car, by the time I get to work if I try doing that when I park there is no loud click sound. The thing is, I don't know if this was always happening and I just noticed it now, or if it just started.
View 14 RepliesAt first it was leaking coolant very slowly,then making the rattling engine noise at low rpm then a part flew off while on the highway gushing out oil. Time for a new used engine. Planning on diy if all else fails off the junker. 230,000 miles on odo.

I was waiting a few seconds for someone to get in the car (it was in the garage) and as soon as the engine kicked on there was a very very large long rattle noise i immediately turned the car off. Waited again and turned it on same noise.. the only thing I found was a cover under the car towards the front was really loose. ( I haven't hit bottom or anything while driving) but I did have the lighted door sills just installed the other day. But it never made that noise..
btw i have 1100 miles on it..I looked under it and is the black dust protector thing supposed to be loose like if I push on it I can make it rattle..
Slightly shaking engine and rattling noise on acceleration,it happens when the car is hot and especially when the battery level is very low ,I guess is when as more load . If I accelerate and keep it steady at 20mph I can feel a constant vibration but goes away once accelerating more....like if you're driving on a rippled surface ....that is only when engine is on , doesn't happen on electric only.
The noise it sound like a tapping coming from the engine when slowly accelerating from 0 that goes away as soon I give more gas ,is annoying wile in the traffic.? Can the sparks plugs be the problem?they been changed 120k ago.....,I cleaned the egv pipe but problem still there. Like I said is only when the engine is up to running temperature.
I bought a used Certified Prius with 49k miles on it. I noticed when accelerating (and the display shows that I am using the ICE but not so much that it shoots up into the "Power" portion on the far right) that the there is a clicking noise coming from the front passenger side of the car.
It sounds very much like this:
I don't hear it when only the electric motor is running, and I don't hear it when I really punch it and the power meter is completely filled up. Its more when the power meter is in the middle of the display and the ICE kicks in and I am slowly accelerating.
My 2010 RX350 has had an engine clicking noise since day one.

View 19 RepliesI own a 2002 Maxima with 102,000 miles. For a while, the car has been making a rattling noise while I am driving and pressing on the gas pedal. The noise occurs frequently whether starting from stopped position or accelerating while driving. The engine has checked out fine and a suggestion was made that I use better gas. I filled up at Chevron with '89, which is the grade I have always used but at discount gas stations. The noise however continues. What may be causing the rattling, clicking, tinny noise?
