I got into my car this morning and looked down to notice that the dash trim is beginning to pop loose... I haven't tried to remove this trim before so I don't know how it happened.

I've had my 2012 Elantra for a year and a half now, and just about a month ago I started noticing a noise coming from the dashboard area on the passenger side. It sounds like a small marble rolling around. I only hear it when I'm taking sharp turns. I've already taken everything out of the glove box, and I checked all of the little compartments in the doors. I even checked under the seats, but I can still hear the noise.

View 1 Replieswhy would my axle nut come loose? not once but twice. I had a funny road feel so I put it up and found the front right to be loose.... surprised and bewildered I pulled the cotter pin and retorqued the axle nut... Tightened right up. no more loose. Now a month later I get the same road wander and sure enough it is loose again.... I have already replaced the bearing about 15000 ago and there is no noise from the bearing. The assembly design pretty much locks the hub to the axle with no play in it at all.... Is it possible that I am pulling the axle apart through the outer knuckle?
View 3 RepliesI was cleaning my car today and when i rolled the rear windows down to wipe the top of them i noticed i could shift them horizontally with ease. I double checked with the front windows and they are sturdy. I was using rain-x wipes when the window moved. It's both of the rears. Is this a problem or is it a "self adjusting" feature?

View 4 RepliesI've got an '07 2.0T MT6 Sport with about 18,000 miles. The round chrome trim ring on the fan speed control knob of the Climatronic panel came loose yesterday. This is the piece between the rotating knob and the two buttons in the center. It's now sticking out a little from the knob and is rattling around.
Is there a way to pop this back on easily? It doesn't look like it's going to fall off completely, but I can't find a way to put it back either. Obviously it should be covered under warranty, but I'd like to avoid a trip to the dealer if there's an easy DIY fix.
Ok so my transmission feels loose, too much play between the coast and drive side of the gears. Makes enough noise now that my wife complained about it so I'm looking into taking it to the dealer. I pretty much expect them to pass this off and do nothing, but its getting worse especially in the last couple of months.
Noticed a lot of play in there gearbox? Can you hear the gears make noise as they shift from coast to drive side?
I've had a Prius since 2006, and bought the 2010 in 2009 when it came out. This is the first winter I'm having a problem with the splash guards under the engine coming loose and hanging down.. I went to the dealer on 1/27 and had them put back in place. I went back again on 2/10. I looked under the car and again one side is hanging down. They dealer explained that it is a plastic clip that holds them in place. I don't drive over big lumps of snow & ice.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2002 Hyundai elantra GT. Since I've got the car last year I've had this intermittent problem with the dash lights coming on every once in a while not really a lot at all. It never bothered me before because they would come on for maybe two minutes then turn off and didn't cause any problems whatsoever.? I think because they were coming on during the day. I never realized it happening at night time. In the last month the lights came on at night time and blew out all my headlights. I replaced them three times already. I read that maybe the alternator is overcharging. I haven't checked anything yet.. I'm very mechanically inclined. Just not with electrical...
View 3 RepliesI wanted to pass along the results of a brake issue I encountered in my 2010 Prius (15K miles) and report to interested Prius owners how the issue was resolved.
Problem: In the last second (or so) coming to a complete stop I noticed a few light clunk type sounds, like something was loose up front. I never experienced any degradation in the braking performance.
Was typically showing at least 30-32 mpg but now around 30 around town, hwy 34-35. Just came back from hwy drive of 100 miles and the mpg showed 30 at the start and barely got to 34-35 which use to show and then it took the entire trip to get to that. The ECO is on....

View 3 RepliesI got one of those iPod cables off eBay and hooked it up to my iPod nano today. It played music immediately, but I was not able to control the iPod through the dash or the steering wheel. Then I noticed that the eBay ad instructs you to connect the cable to the car first, turn the car on, then connect the iPod. I didn't do that the first time. An hour later, I tried it the right way. Same result. I just want to be able to control the iPod using the car stereo controls without having to handle the iPod itself.

I do a lot of night driving and have learned to live with the dimmer all the way down, though my personal preference is to have it just a little dimmer. My commute makes traffic unpredictable, so I often get to work early (better than too late!), so I like to nap a little in the car until time to drag myself in to the office. When my headlights are off and I'm parked, the dash lights are WAY bright. Is there a way to turn them off, and also have the headlights off too? I need the headlights off (and the silly parking lights that stay on till you set the parking brake). So, simply stated, is there a way to turn everything all the way off while the engine (and heater) stay running?
View 10 RepliesI have a rattle in the dash up in the middle of the dash kind of in between the two sides of the car and between the window and front so basically right in the middle of the dash, if I slap it with my hand I can make the same sort of rattle so something is loose, bad thing is I dropped by dealership and it didn't do it when I was in the car driving with the service guy but I slapped on the dash and you could here a something loose sound rattle same kind I hear when driving. He said that is normal for things to make noise in there when you tap the dash. About a week ago I had the dirty sock smell coming from my vents so I took out the Cabin Filter and sprayed Lysol in the intake the put a new filter in. This is about the same time the rattle started. I wonder if the Lysol might have made something come loose in the vent system.
View 3 Replies2 days ago, with no warning, my 2011 Elantra Touring wouldn't start. Just wouldn't turn over.
I noticed a dash light with the symbol of a key inside a car was on. It would stay lit up at all times except during the start up attempt - even with the key out of the ignition.
I looked it up and have been reading about the immobilizer. Apparently this might be my trouble. Problem is, how to troubleshoot.
Here is what I have tried so far (turn-key ignition)
- verified car was in park.
- tried to start in neutral.
- jump started the battery, even though it didn't seem to be a battery issue.
- left key turned to start position for 15 minutes, then tried to start it. This was recommended in a thread on a different forum for a similar sounding problem.
Will try to post a video of the dash during a start attempt in a few minutes.
So I'm not new to fixing this car but I'm now stuck. It is not the inhibitor switch, I had that replaced, and the car cranks so it is not the problem. In addition, the "P" shows up on the dash. Since the car cranks, its not the battery, it is showing 12.25V.
I am afraid it is the fuel pump. Looking for the specs for the fuel pump such as resistances/ voltages? Sometimes when it cranks, I believe it ignites for half a second and then dies. Then it cranks with no ignition, then it sounds like its dying, then it ignites every once in a while.
Similar to this: [URL] ..... but without the nastiness at 0:08 where they turn off the car mid crank.
My digital clock on the dash runs fast. Every month it gains 2 to 3 minutes compared with my cell phone and I have to adjust it.
View 23 RepliesHere goes, I just took ownership in the last month of a Hyundai Accent GS(2000). Car's been going great, but I have now found an annoying issue with a vibration coming through the dash. When I'm accelerating in all gears (and esp up hill when the car is under pressure), a Vibration starts in the dash and stays until I am roughly over 3000 revs. I'm in Ireland, so the car is Right Hand Drive. The Vibration sounds like it is coming from behind the speedo clocks near to windscreen.
So far, I have removed the Center Console and Stereo and the Vibration stays there. I've reached in behind the console and cant find any vibration there. I have also driven with the speedo clocks removed and putting my hand into the space trying to find the vibration.....but no joy.
The vibration itself sounds like a plastic trim in the dash (or behind the dash), but it has my stomped! Can it be something in the engine causing it? Engine ticks over fine, not lumpy in anyway.
