Have cruise control randomly shut off? Mine does it maybe 1-2 times a week and I use it quite extensively. It pretty much only happens while on the highway. I know I'm not accidentally tapping the break, because it'll happen even when I have both feet away from the pedals.
View 30 RepliesOk, today on my way to work, I got up to speed and turned on the cruise control. It worked fine. I then stopped on my way to work to get a bottle of water. I got up to speed and went to hit Set. Nothing would happen. I ended up getting off at the next exit and turn off the car completely. Restarted the car and got back on the interstate. Got up to speed, turned on the cruise and hit Set. It worked. On my way home, no problems. It was just strange.

View 16 RepliesSo my cruise is giving me issues, won't set the speed. Turns on and off no problem but set and resume do not work. However, turn off the car and then re-start it and the cruise works again. I know the radio is only up to 60k.
View 19 RepliesEvery day I have to drive on highways and obviously I use the Cruise Control BUT sometimes it doesn't work. To make it work again, I have to stop , turn off the engine and then turn it on. After doing that, the cruise control works again... It is an intermittent problem. I have my car for 4 months and I have got this problem about 10 times. Am I the only one to have an intermittent problem with my cruise control ?

View 20 Replies2003 Pontiac Vibe, 5 speed manual, 70K miles. Recently the cruise control started shutting itself off; if I keep turning it on/off it will hold speed again for awhile, but a few mins later the same problem reappears. Some days the CC works just fine; other days it flickers on/off. The cruise light starts flickering too when this happens, but doesn't remain off. I am not touching the clutch, brake, gas.Seems unrelated to weather or road conditions.
View 3 RepliesMy 05 Grand Am has about 75,000 miles on it. It has been a good car minus the occational strut mount replacement and front wheel bearing assembly. This cruise control problem has been going on for a couple years now.
It will just randomly quit while i'm going down the highway. Sometimes it wont do it for weeks, or sometimes do it 10 times in a 30 mile drive. Sometimes it will resume after i press the button once, sometimes i can hit it many times, sometimes it just seems to quit for a minute or two.
The wife and i took a 3 hour roadtrip this weekend and i was fuming after hitting the resume button dozens of times. We had alot of interstate traffic to dodge, alot of people on my butt. Thats not the greatest time for the cruise to be having problems.
She had it at the dealership right before the warranty was up and they said they "think" they know what it is, but their insurance company wont let them just change out $500 parts just because they "think" it's that part. I didn't hear about this at first from her or we would have made them fix it. What good is a warranty if they wont fix the problem you have?
I was hoping this is a common occurance with an easy fix. I am pretty good at working on my own vehicles so i can check certain parts if need be. What seems to be the most common problems to check when your cruise control has these problems?
Bought a 2012 Sonata GLS back on July 3rd. I've had 3 instances where I'll be running on cruise control, I'll disengage it and then when I go to resume it doesn't do anything. I can turn Cruise on and off but it will not Set nor Resume. I have to stop and turn the car off and then back on for it to work again. I have a service appointment this Saturday for an alignment issue so I'm going to have them check this out too.
View 88 Repliesmy 02 VW Cabrio has the nasty habit of the cruise control disconnecting at random. A tech supposedly diagnosed a faulty Cruise Control Module. Now the diagnostic is the vacuum pump. He did a throttle body alignment, the steering column switches check out, brake light circuit checks out, vacuum hoses all good, electrical connectors all tight and sealed with goop... so what could the problem be? It seems to work when cold and at lower speeds, but after warming up and doing freeway speeds, it's dead in the water and won't reset...
View 7 RepliesMy 2010 Subaru Outback recently surprised the hell out of me by simultaneously turning on the brake warning light, the traction control light, the check engine light and (just for a bonus!) disabled my cruise control while flashing the cruise control light. I pulled over, quickly surmising that all of those systems could not have failed at 70 MPH without instantaneous death to either me or the vehicle. Both apparently still being alive, I tried turning the car on an off to reset the lights. No go. Subaru was not going to miss this chance to get me to the dealership! (who I had avoided to this point!) As I was far away from home and the car being very healthy, it seemed, I decided to drive on. I proceeded to put a couple of hundred more miles on the car before I got back to town.
My car had 39,000 miles on it, 3,000 miles beyond the warranty end. I learned that I have an error code of P0171, "Fuel Trim Malfunction (Air/Fuel too lean)". So I guess I'm wondering about a few things...why would this sensor set off every light on my dashboard and disable my cruise control? Seems a bit overblown for running a bit lean. My gut tells me Subaru has a sensor/software problem they are not owning up to. I'm a big fan of conspiracy theories and this really smells like one...
Second, jeez, I'm only 3K miles over warranty, don't you think they'd cut me some slack. I mean I love my Subaru, or did anyway, until this happened. Now it's just another POS car that breaks for no apparent reason...
I have a 4 cylinder manual transmission that the cruise control won't set. The light will come on it just won't set. I don't see any vacuum hoses and can't find any blown fuses. All the lights brakes, parking, and flashers seem to be working fine.
View 4 RepliesFor the 4th time now my cruise control doesn't come on (had the car almost 4 months, with 6500 miles). The main "cruise" light comes on, but when I hit the "set" button nothing happens.
All except one time I had to remove the key before it would work again. One time I kept trying the "set" button and it finally worked. It's so infrequent, they'll never be able to recreate at the dealership. Not sure if I should just try to report it for documentation purposes, so if it happens to be permanent after warrantee expires hopefully it will be covered.
Back in the day, cruise was controlled by vacuum pressure but I don't know if that's the case any longer.
I have this weird problem with the cruise control of my 2002 elantra gt: I cannot set the cruise control at 30 or 40 mph, but I can do it somewhere above that (just went to the highway and set it around 60 mph). What could be the problem? Do cruise control systems need calibration or would I have to replace it?
View 2 RepliesMy cruise control wouldn't engage this afternoon and once I got home I noticed that the brake lights including the third light are on. Headlight switch is rotated to off position, checked brake fluid and its normal, backed car up and hit pedal thinking something might have been locked up but to no avail.
View 4 Replies2010 Elantra. The other day I noticed that while driving with cruise control on, on the way home from work, pressing the brake pedal didn't turn the cruise control off. I felt the brake work, but the engine started revving like I was holding down the accelerator so I took my foot off and manually turned the cruise control off with the On/Off button. I didn't think much of it at the time other than it hadn't done that previously. Then, when I got home I couldn't put the car in park. The shifter wouldn't move past Neutral up to the Reverse or Park position. Using the shift-lock release push button I was able to put it in park. I'm not sure if the two issues presented here are related, but they both occurred for the first time on the same day. I was hoping it was a random occurrence and it would be better today, but things haven't changed. The brake and accelerator have continued to work just as before and the car feels no different driving it.
View 3 RepliesI have a 99 Hyundai Elantra Wagon and it has about 205,000 miles on it. It has been a wonderful vehicle, but I have a couple of problems with it. One, the cruise control is a little funny. Between about 42 mph and maybe 55 mph, the engine will rev up and down and sometimes will shut off the cruise control altogether. Also, I think it has a transmission problem- when I slow down to come to a stop or slow down enough for a turn, it sort of hesitates going forward. Not the engine, but just going where I want it to go and when. It almost feels like the brakes are on when I'm trying to accelerate, but those have been checked. Automatic transmission.
View 1 RepliesI have 2011 Elantra that the cruise control is not working properly. It started out that I had to slap it to get it to work. I have to push the Resume button to turn on, Cancel button to set, set button to resume and the on/off button to cancel. Was told I need a new switch assembly. Done that and same problem. Shop checked brake light switch and said it was working properly, but I think they just meant for the brake light and it was not sticking. Even had steering wheel pulled and put dielectric grease on the wiring harness.
View 1 RepliesThe cruise control cuts out after driving for 25+ minutes. The rpm's rev up to 4000 and the speedometer goes wild just before cutting off. It can be reset but does not hold for long. Short trips and a cooling-off period for the engine seem to work. The dealer could not replicate the condition.
View 1 RepliesI almost always use my cruise control. When I turn off my car then restart under 2 minutes, the cruise control doesn't work UNTIL I stop completely.
When I turn off my car over 2 minutes then restart, cruise control works fine.
Is something not resetting right or something? It doesn't bother me.. I just have to restart my car after 2 minutes so my cruise control works.
