I noticed that every time I hit my brakes, I heard a clicking sound and a little bit feel at my shifter lever. I found same issues on the Sonata forums but I just wanted to know if we elantra users had the same problems like me. Its annoying & I don't find it normal. What can be done ????
View 3 RepliesIts been pretty cold up here and lately i find my car making a creaking sound when i brake coming to complete stop. I talked to a couple other guys in a Hyundai chat, and they said it was the Elantra frame in the cold.
Just wanted to get some others input, anything I can tighten up to make it go away, or bushings?? I am almost positive its not the brakes because i had them checked just before my winter tires went on.
So fairly recently, I've noticed a metallic-ish click like noise from my back rear driver side wheel. I hear it on occasion when sitting down in my car and the car tilts slightly. I can reproduce the sound when I take my hand and rock the car just a little bit. What that might be? Or if I should be concerned?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra and I have had it for almost a year. Its been snowing here in Tennessee. I went to start my car and wont start. All the lights come on, radio, etc.I have tried jumping the car and wont work, even tried changing out battery. Not sure if theres any known issues going on or if it has to do with it being cold.
View 9 RepliesThere is a medium sounding clicking coming from the gear selector area. I understand this must be the mechanism that prevents you from accidentally going into reverse when you are driving. However, the sound really is irritating and the car did not used to do this. I have taken it to the dealer, which states it is normal and there is nothing to fix. I have been doing some research online and it appears an easy fix is to just grease it back up. It appears over time the grease comes off or something. That being said, how do I get the initial gray plate off? (see picture)
View 6 RepliesSo my 2014 Elantra makes a tapping/ticking sound on cold starts which stays audible after the oil gets up to temp for at least until about 10 minutes of driving. I've heard this noise since I bought the car and of course kept searching all over the forums but everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what causes it and if it's normal or not. I finally decided to drop my car off at the dealer overnight so they could start in the morning and diagnose it. They listened, ran some tests on the engine and said everything was fine, nothing was damaged and that the sound is from the second fuel pump that is located over the engine.
They tested my fuel and said it's making the sound because I'm using a heavy fuel quality, then the tech told me I should run a fuel cleaner every other time I fill the car up. This seems excessive to me? I only fill my car up with Shell gas and avoid discount places which the tech agreed that Shell gas should be fine. I only have 22k miles on the car do I really need to be running cleaners every other tank of gas? Also wondering if using non ethanol gas would fix this problem. I did run 1 tank of non-ethanol but didn't notice a difference and since non-ethanol costs more than premium I went back to regular. I will try a fuel cleaner though?
I have a 2012 Elantra limited. About 2 weeks ago I've started to hear a clicking noise coming from the gearbox when brake pedal is pressed and let go. This only happens when the car is at standstill. I took it in for service today and sales rep said its a normal clicking noise and his sisters car makes same sound. He said its an actuator motor engaging to allow the car to shift when brake is pressed. The thing is, the clicking was never there before or maybe not so loud. So what should I do? Car is still under warranty, should I demand for them to replace the actuating motor? Maybe call Hyundai and complain that they said the noise is normal ?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS... Few months back I refueled my tank with degraded fuel (of course i did not know about it and some refueling stations in our country mix oils) and the problems started to arise with my car.. initially it all started with jerks and cracking sounds from the engine.. I then took it to the dealership and cleaned everything except the injectors but the jerking and cracking problem was solved.. but it still had a pickup problem.. whenever i tried to accelerate from 40km/h to above, the transmission seems to give a jolt make a clicking sound when downshifting.. and the acceleration compared to before has degraded.. I took it to the dealership again and their answer was drive it for 300 km more everything will b fine.. but i have driven the car for 1000 km more but the problem is not solving.. I don't know.. my warranty period is over.. in our country they only provide for 12000 km or 1 yr warranty.. now i have checked online and it seems Elantra transmission has bugged a lot of ppl..
View 19 RepliesOur 2012 elantra gls with 112k miles on it decided to freak out yesterday.
Car wont turn over at all. there is also a clicking sound coming from the interior fuse block. I popped the hood and smelled sulfur. I put the volt meter to the battery and it shows 12.8 ish. I checked all the fuses and didn't find any blown. I also pulled the starter relay and tested it and it checked out.
Trying to turn the car over some times the dash light will flicker and the wipers will turn on by themselves. I also had a clicking sound coming from the fuse block under the hood. Interior lights come on but are dim and the parking light flicker a bit and fade. I downloaded the manual but am not sure what to look for at this point.
I have a clicking sound coming from the front right wheel, happens while driving straight or turning. My guy checked the cv boots, axle bolt, various other connections that seem fine. Then he takes a phrase out of Satan's handbook and says "take it to the dealer". I saw the horns on his head and the red eyes while he was saying it. So I made apt for next week. I don't think it's anything serious , Orr maybe it's something to do with the rotor, caliper, break pads ? Everything else seems tight.
View 3 RepliesOkay I have a 2006 Hyundai Elantra with 56,000 miles. Whenever I have been driving for a while in town and and the car is heated up, I get a clicking/popping noise coming from the front end whenever I reverse, turn the wheel, and then brake.
I've been testing it more but it won't always click or pop when i turn the wheel, but when I push the pedal down to stop it clicks and pops a lot. And then as I turn the wheel back without being on the brake pedal it'll click a little bit more.
Normally this would sound like a suspension problem but the fact that I have to push the pedal down to "activate" the sound has me baffled. And the weird thing is, is sometimes when I'm turning into a parking spot at low speeds it will click just a little bit..
It almost feels like the brake lines are getting tangled up and making sounds. I know that's not the case but I'm trying to describe the sound. It's not the normal pop you would get when a tie rod is going out. It doesn't really sound like its metal on metal. And it doesn't constantly click while reversing or turning like it would if it were the CV axle.
The car stops just fine though.. I'd even say the brakes are pretty touchy. The other issue I have with brake sounds is coming from the back. When I'm slowing down ... at around 15 mph it will click in the back every rotation. It has to be coming from the drum brakes. That doesn't concern me so much as it probably is time for new pads or something in the hardware needs tweaking.
I have determined that I most likely have a bad CV joint - a faint clicking sound while braking that varies with speed that happens with the car in drive, but not in neutral.
I've also found instructions here on how to remove/replace the axle, but I'm wondering if it can be done without separating the tie rod end and removing the ball joint. On other cars I've managed to do this by unbolting the strut, which allowed the hub assembly to flop out enough to be able to slide the axle out of it. Is this possible on the Prius? I have to replace my struts anyway so I was hoping to do it all at once and avoid dealing with potentially frozen suspension components.
Just recently my Prius has been making a clicking noise when turning right and braking at the same time. It only happens during a right while braking and not while stopping straight or left. I only have 27K miles on it. I'm not due for an oil change for a couple thousand miles and was going to wait until then to mention it to the dealer.
View 18 RepliesThe downshifting while braking is very obvious during braking, I can literally feel the gearshifts going down from 5th Gear to 1st as I brake. I have driven a wide range of cars but haven't experienced this earlier. Is there any modification that can be done or added to change this and make it smoother like usual cars?
View 28 RepliesI recently purchased a brand new 2013 Hyundai Elantra and I have noticed that I sometimes when I brake fast but not fully slamming on them from going about 60-80km I hear a loud grinding noise. When this happens the roads are dry so I know that it is not caused by slippery or wet roads.

The ECO quickly blinks whenever I hold the break down while not moving, but when I let off the break it doesn't flash. Normal?
When I leave the car in the parking space for a couple of days (in cold weather) and then start driving it, I notice that when I brake I hear noises (like thud.. thud...). Eventually as the engine warms up the noise goes away. I can never reproduce this at the dealer as I have to drive half an hour to the dealer and by that time the noise goes away. Should I be concerned?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2012 hyundai elantra gls 6speed manual. Every time I apply the brake and turn the car makes a ticking noise that appears to come from the front. It happens when I turn either way. I just had the car inspected, but forgot to mention the noise, and they didn't say anything was wrong with the brakes. It only happens with the brake applied. When I let off the brake the noise stops.
View 3 RepliesI have a '14 Elantra with 35k miles. Recently, the oil pressure light has been flickering when turning or braking. I checked the oil level and it's full. I am overdue for an oil change. If it makes a difference, I used to commute to work 35 highway miles one way. I got a new job in my town 2 months ago, so my commute is now 3 min, city-type driving conditions.
View 27 RepliesI am new to Hyundai. I just bought a barely used 2011 Elantra GL Sedan - Auto. I notice that the ride is absolutely terrible - especially the rear which has from what I understand torsion bar suspension. (Didn't we stop using those on WWII Jeeps) Anyway I digress.
I notice in city any pot hole is jarring in the front and hoppy in the back. On the highway I feel like the back end gets air any time I hit a moderate pump at speeds above 90kmh (55mph). I noticed what others have noticed too, slight fishtailing or rear vibrations when braking.
Is there an issue that I'm unaware of - is this normal or is there something broken/loose. I push on the rear like I would test a normal suspension and it doesn't bounce more than once but if I hit a bump while driving it bounces three or four times?
I just bought a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. Today I noticed that when I turn the key into the last position before starting (when the air/heat and radio work, but the engine isn't started), I hear a clicking sound coming from the front of the car. The clicks start as soon as I put the key into that position. After about 5-6 quick clicks in 2-5 seconds, it stops. The clicking is the same every time. It sounds exactly like when you're igniting a gas stove.
Just to be clear, the car starts fine. There is no clicking when I'm turning the key far enough for the engine to turn over. It's only when I put it in the last position for radio/ac/heat. Is this normal? I never noticed it with my other car.
