There is some kind of annoying noise coming from the area near the shifter, I took everything out of the storage compartment and cup holders and still I get this sound like the is a tiny screw rattling around at that area. if I push on the side of the console it stops then returns.

I've noticed, lately on my girlfriend's 2013 with auto trans, when the brake pedal is down, and then pumped, I can hear and feel a click coming through the shifter. It happens in all gears.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2011 Elantra Limited. No nav. I really like it. But I often smell the sweet smell of hot anti freeze/coolant coming from the engine area. I see no visible signs of anything wrong. My past experiences with this smell usually indicated overheating or a leak.
View 14 RepliesOn our 2016, it's got this weird scratching sound.. It is so faint, but definitely noticeable. It SOUNDS like it's coming from the driver wheel area; or perhaps under driver dash/footwell. I've looked at the brake rotor/suspension and everything looks good.
It isn't solid either; it'll do it SOMETIMES with the brakes, on starts/stops, and SOMETIMES it does it going over a speed bump... It literally sounds like someone scratching their finger across the rough part of the dash...
I have a 2013 Elantra GL 4 DR (Canadian model). It has 88,000 km on it and has been maintained well.
For the past 2-3 weeks I have been here a squeaking noise from the engine bay that sounded like a bad belt. Sometimes it appears and sometimes it's quiet. I brought my car to a local shop to just switch the tires over and I asked them to take a look but they didn't notice anything and he said the belt is nice and tight. Of course when I leave the shop the noise starts. The noise happens sometimes when driving and while in park so it's not related to motion of the vehicle.
I took the engine cover off and it sounded like it was coming from the left (belt side) side towards the mid-rear of the engine.
I've been noticing some new noises in my Elantra in the last couple of months.
First, there's a clunking noise that sounds like it's coming from the steering area. It usually happens when I back up and rotate the steering wheel, like when I back out of my parking spot. More often it's in the morning.
Second, when I turn the fan on there is a high pitched squeal. If you turn the fan off you can hear the squeal more clearly for a moment as the fans die down. This one only started happening in the last couple of weeks.
I guess I'll have to take it in and get them to take a look. Last year it was a squeaking in the pano roof which only happened when it was hot out. They seemed to have lessened it but it wasn't gone completely.
About 6 weeks ago I noticed a noise coming from the front driver side wheel area. We had just gotten the tire rotated and once at freeway speed it was like a squealing noise, just like when you have worn brakes. Since then the squealing noise is gone and now it's a faint (hard to describe over text) "whomp whomp" noise as if I have off-road tires. I notice it more on freeways I supposed because it's a smoother straighter surface. On a particular right bending street by our house it's louder. What it might be? Car has 36k miles.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2011 E Sedan and recently started hearing a loud grating noise from the passenger front wheel area. It only happens when turning the wheel to the left. It isn't a popping noise like the traditional CV Joint and the boot is still intact.
I jacked the front up today and put it on jack stands. I pulled the tire, caliper, caliper mounting bracket, and rotor to look at the dust shield and there was no sign of it rubbing, nor was there any other wear marks. With everything still disassembled, I turned the wheel hub with my hands and noticed the same, though fainter, sound. I started the car and put it in drive and once again the same noise was coming from the hub assembly area, although I didn't use a stethoscope to listen.
The noise is more profound when under load turning left, but it still seems to coming from the same area. My plan is to replace the entire wheel hub assembly since they aren't that expensive. That, and I don't want to go through the headache of puling everything apart to simply replace the bearings.
Today was the first time I was in my RX without the radio since I bought it. I have a 2011 RX CPO with 65000kms on the odometer.
When the vehicle is idling there is a tick-tick noise coming from the engine area that does not go away. I initially thought this noise was due to it being 0 Degree C but the noise continued for the duration of my 45 minute drive. Later in the day the noise was consistent was did not silence.
2011 Hyundai Elantra, 42k miles. The car is my girlfriends which I drive once every few weeks. Yesterday I noticed a rumbling noise coming from the right front tire area. The noise only comes about when turning a fairly sharp left while above 20 mph. Taking a left onto a side street etc doesn't cause any noise, but taking one while going through a big intersection etc. Where the speed is up a little bit causes the noise. The tires are original, obviously not new, but they still have a decent amount of tread left on them, they're Continental Pro Contacts.
Tire, ball-joint, brake pad rubbings? I'm going to take it to get looked at tomorrow, I did spray the area with a hose in case there was something caught in there, but that didn't change anything. The tire looks fine, no abnormal wear or bulges, the car is in alignment and makes no other noise except in the circumstance noted.
I've owned a 2012 Prius Two for less than a month now, and today while driving home I noticed what sounds like road/wind noise coming from the rear passenger side area. Googling about this revealed information about the battery fan. However, I'm unsure if what I'm hearing is the battery fan or road/wind noise that I just haven't heard before.
Here's information regarding the conditions I was driving in:
- 84 degrees outside temperature
- car had been sitting in an open-air parking lot for about 2 hours
- no tint, no windows cracked for hot air release
- upon returning to the car I turned on the AC to 68, set at mid range speed
- was driving on the interstate doing some stop-and-go, but mostly 50-plus MPH
- windows rolled up completely, no doors ajar
- it sounded like air rushing by
- could not hear anything coming from the left rear side, but my left ear is partially blocked by the headrest, so...
- sound would decrease in volume if car slowed down
- sound would increase in volume as car got faster, but would eventually level out it seemed
- sound would completely go away at speeds below 20ish mph
- sound would not change based on level of AC, whether on, low, high or off
- checked battery vent for obstructions/debris, saw nothing, and was cool to the touch
- car has about 28k miles on it, replaced rear tires yesterday but all bolts, caps, etc. are securely in place
I own 2001 2.0 Golf (first car) and lately as I drive I constantly hear this noise, it's very obnoxious, sounds like a washing machine going with a hard object in it. It's not continuous, but it doesn't happen rarely. Whenever I go over any bump, the slightest crack etc. I'm guessing it has something to do with the suspension? I'm not really sure since I'm still learning about cars...
View 1 RepliesI have been experiencing a terrible wind noise coming from the door seal, it is intolerable and I just can't believe it is normal. I can hear it coming from the passenger side as well, but not nearly as bad. If I press against the area while driving, it will stop. It occurs at any speed north of 60mph.
Here is a picture to illustrate where I am talking about. I can take closer shots, this was just a photo I already had on my computer.
Noticed this shortly after taking delivery but now it's become worse. When I'm under hard throttle or on really grainy/old paved roads I can hear this rattle like there is no tomorrow. At first, I thought it was something plastic behind the speedo and I tried pressing/tapping and praying for this to go away haha.
I've come to realize it's coming from the dashboard where the VIN plate is attached.
I know its a normal function of the car, but has noticed when you come to a stop at a light or what not, you hear a click, like a servo or something in or near the shifter (automatic). Not worried, just would like to know what it is that clicks and why?
View 8 RepliesI've had my 2012 Elantra for a year and a half now, and just about a month ago I started noticing a noise coming from the dashboard area on the passenger side. It sounds like a small marble rolling around. I only hear it when I'm taking sharp turns. I've already taken everything out of the glove box, and I checked all of the little compartments in the doors. I even checked under the seats, but I can still hear the noise.
View 18 RepliesI have a 2012 Elantra sedan and I have a ticking noise coming from the engine.......I have had the noise since new.......but it was very faint.......it has gotten worse with time........I had mentioned this to the dealership when it was new but they said it was normal engine noise! It sounds like the older cars used to sound when there was a valve clearance problem.....but with the advent of overhead cams.....I'm not sure what the problem is.........78,000km on engine!
View 8 RepliesJust got my 2013 Elantra Limited last weekend. It appears the car is having some issues with the transmission shifter. I am not sure if its tranny related, but I highly suspect it is. Dealer gave me the usual bs not being able to duplicate the symptoms.
1. Intermittently, gear selector would get stuck in neutral, when I try to put the car into P, after a long or a short drive.
2. I would have to wiggle the shifter to get into P, or I would have to shift to D, and then I am able to shift back into P.
Okay so with my old Accent I had the same Magnaflow exhaust I have now on the Elantra. Sounds identical with one exception; When I'd down shift with my Accent I'd get some popping coming from the exhaust. I get no such sound with my current set-up. Now I know some people don't like it but I do.
So my question is simple... Would removing the resonator (assuming the Elantra's have one) or doing something else to the exhaust give me back my wonderful popping sound?
I have a 2012 Elantra with 25k miles and after the car sits for about 2 hours, there is a loud clattering noise coming from the exhaust when running. Mainly when I first start it up and take off down the road. After about 2 mins of driving, it's a lot quieter.
Anyways, I raised it up a bit today and everything looks normal, but using a mallet, I knocked all over the exhaust a bit and it all seems to make a rattle noise. Mine started about 1 month ago.
