Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2013 - Inaccurate MPG Gauge
Aug 5, 2013
The guage on my '13 Auto is always 3-5 mpg optimistic vs my hand calculated mpgs. I find this unacceptable since the guage on my '08 350z's always within 0.2 mpg , and some times it is right on the dot! How inaccurate is yours? And I do fill at the same pump, though i know this isn't an absolute guarantee the tank is being filled exactly the same every time, but still, off by 5 mpg?

I am having some issues with the distance to empty gauge. Every time I've filled up the car it has say approx. 550 miles (when tank is completely full)..

I just got a 03 f250 cc lariat with the 6.0, the truck sat for a month and a half before I picked it up, I got in started and the fuel gauge showed over half and the miles to empty was accurate and the temp was as well, about half way home the gauge dropped below empty and the fuel light turned on, then the miles to empty went up to 455 and the temp showed 67 when it was 92 out. I have read other post with these problems but no one has a solution, people have recommended techron for the fuel sender, but techron is not recommended for diesel...

My fuel gauge on my Sport Trac is nowhere near accurate. Ran out of gas the other day showing 1/4 tank.
I get a little hesitation as well when accelerating.
I'm showing a PO191 fault code which says Fuel rail sensor.
Would that cause a gauge to malfunction?

This has been happening consistently where the trip gauge on low fuel goes from 40miles to zero mile in a matter of seconds. I've never seen where it goes through the gradual process 30->20>10 > 0.

My 2010 has 11,000 miles on it. Was driving 75 mph down the freeway when the engine stopped. I was headed to the gas station as my low fuel light had just come on (at the time it died, 37 miles to E).
This is not my first Ford. I understand you shouldn't allow your tank to get that low because it is bad on the fuel pump (or whatever). But, I drove my 09 many times well below 37 miles to E. I have driven this vehicle below 37 miles to E. So, I was startled when it died.
It was towed to the dealership and their diagnosis was that it was out of gas. This does not make me happy... as I am aware that it was "low" on gas. But if the gauge is telling me 37 miles to E, then why did it stop running?
What good is a gauge/warning on my new vehicle if it is inaccurate?

Just got the car, 2013 RX350, 5,000 miles on it.
Today, the low fuel light came on. It showed 20 miles cruising range left, which would roughly equal 1 gallon. I pulled into the gas station, and they filled up 15.55 gallon to fill it up.
Now 15.55 + 1 = 16.55 gallons. The car has 19.2 gallon tank, that means there must be over 2.5 gallons in there the car doesn't know about!
Is this inaccuracy normal for the RX350 or is there something wrong with m car?

Sporadically over the last few fill ups, my gas gauge has taken to remaining at full for nearly 50 miles despite me doing my regular in town driving with hills. Up until this, Emma would drop off 'F' after between 30 and 35 miles like clockwork but this latest round of stubborn behavior makes me wonder if the float is sticking at the top. It happened again tonight and despite me doing only 25.1 MPG, it still stayed at full until 47 miles after I reset the trip meter.

My son recently bought a 2012 GLS. The temp gauge was fluctuating and I noticed the overflow was really low. I added coolant and warmed the car up with no change. After it cooled a little, I cracked the radiator cap and heard bubbling air. Upon complete removal of the cap, I saw no fluid, however, the cap is above the radiator where the hoses connect. I added coolant directly to this opening until I could see it. Closed everything up and warmed up the car. Temp gauge is now steady 1 mark below half way. The question is, did I add enough coolant? and should I see coolant inside the radiator cap when the vehicle is cold?

I just bought my 2012 Elantra Limited from the dealer today . The fuel gauge showed about two bars, a quarter tank I estimated. However when I went to fuel it, the pump clicked off after about 1 gallon, indicating the tank was full.
That was odd so I just figured there was some air in the tank or in the hose, so I tried adding some more fuel. I got about a half gallon more added when it clicked off again. Well, I know you're not supposed to top off the tank so I tried to add more. Got about two gallons added when it clicked off. I stopped fueling at that point for fear of causing damage.
My fuel gauge now shows a little less than half full. How can that be? Is there something I can do to fix this?

I am 1/2 way thru a 2 hour trip driving on interstate 75 in Florida doing about 75mph when all of the sudden I couldn't steer, had no dash lights with the exception of the radio plus the bluetooth still worked and braking was very difficult. I couldn't accelerate, nothing happened when I pushed the gas pedal. Neither turn signal worked but the emergency flashers did. Managed to get it on side of highway but then it got interesting; couldn't shift out of drive and couldn't turn the car off; I could turn the key but nothing happened. After sitting on the side of the road with my foot on the brake pedal for 30 minutes I tried turning the car off again and it magically worked. I sat there for about 10 minutes and thought I would turn the car on and see what happened; turned the key and it fired up like normal and everything was working just fine.

I have a 2013 Elantra w/tech pkg (bought brand new) and I have about 106k miles on it. Today I noticed this strange issue where when I let off the gas, it's like the engine doesn't notice right away and continues to apply power. It's only a delay for about a second or so, but it's noticeable enough that I'm writing this. It's really odd and I don't know what to make of it.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Elenatra 7 months old. the trunk opens by itself very often. I asked at the service department at the dealership and they say never heard of this problem. Also I came out yesterday the battery was dead even thought nothing was left on. I fell there must be some electrical or switching problem with this car.

I've had the car since the end of April. About 8 or 9 times I've had people come into my office and tell me that my truck is open.
If you own one of these you know that the word "hair trigger" does not come to mind with opening the truck remotely. You have to purposely work the trunk button. I really don't thinks it's because I sat on the key fob or bumped it so it accidentally opened the trunk.
As you can imagine I keep valuable things in my trunk so this is not good.

In the last two weeks, our 2013 Elantra (we have a 2014 also) has developed what I can only describe as a "hum" from the front of the car... only at speeds over 40 mph. It sounds like a electrical transformer hum/buzz. Other than the sound, the car drives and performs as always. It just went over 52k miles.
If you are going 70 mph and put the transmission in neutral, it's still there. Not a transmission sound. If you turn the A/C on and off, it's still there. Not the A/C compressor. It does not get much louder or more pronounced as speed increases, which lead me to believe it is not the alternator or a pulley, and you can't hear it when the car is parked and you rev it up.
The only other source I can think of is the electric power steering motor. I am taking it to the dealer in a few days to let them see if they can diagnose and correct this issue.

My 2013 Elantra won't shift out of park. I know that I should check fuses, but what fuses might be associated with this. (The brake lights are not affected)...

I have an Elantra 2013, the issue that I face is that when I turn OFF the A/C, the recirculation turns off by itself which I don't want as it will allow dust to accumulate through the open vents when the Car is parked overnight.
So each time I turn off the a/c, I need to press the recirculation button as well so I can turn off the car with recirculation ON. Doesn't happen in other cars..

Picked up my brand new elantra last week, however alarm was not working properly. It arms ok (i.e., horn chirps after two clicks, lights flash etc)...but when we tried to test the alarm (as part of my delivery inspection), nothing happened. We tried opening door without key, opening from a half open shutter etc.
Dealer promised to resolve issue, they've been good so far, but it's worrying me a bit, brand new car, I shouldn't have to think of these issues and take my car and leave it in the dealer garage for a few days for them to diagnose this.

I have a 2013 Elantra GLS. I use a USB stick to listen to music. Sometimes it would reset the center console/radio if I leave the USB stick in, but this time it didn't turn back on.

Ever since the first week of owning my 13 Elantra I've noticed my steering wheel isn't centered when driving straight not just by a mm or 2 it's pointing slightly to the left, I would guarantee most of you would hate this as much as I do! I went in to an alignment shop and they said during transport over rough sea's they're strapped down tight and the violent sea can cause them to shift which causes my issue, thought that was a bit of BS but surprisingly enough the dealer said the same!? I'm at 3000kms at the moment after 3months and was instructed to put at least 20,000kms before bothering with it! This is the only new car I've ever bought it only had 8kms when I took it for its test drive and never noticed this and there were about 3kms put on since the test and pick up and that was them filling the tank and getting it ready!?
