I noticed my left headlight on my 2009 Elantra was burnt out. I also noticed the left fog light was burnt out, but the brights and directionals are still fine. Do the fog lights only work if the headlight is working, or are they both needing replaced?
View 2 RepliesMy friend with a 2007 SC430 has been having weird electrical issues for the past few years. He's owned the car about 6 years now, and probably 3 or 4 years ago things seem to have started acting up:
- the car burns out headlight and foglight bulbs very often, usually after less than a year since they are replaced. It hasn't mattered if the replacements he tries are OEM Lexus or aftermarket, they burn out within a year or so - sometimes within only a few months. He previously owned a 2002 SC430 for about 4 years and never had to replace any bulbs. On the 07, it's usually always one of the driver's side bulbs that will go first, and then within a month or two the passenger's side goes. Sometimes a headlight goes, then the foglight on the same or opposite side goes. Other times a fog goes out and a short time later the headlight on that side goes out.
- his driver's seat heated seat stopped working earlier last year. First the "bottom" stopped working, then a few weeks later the "back" section stopped too. Lexus diagnosed blown heating elements, which can't be replaced without replacing the entire section of the seat. So he found a complete seat from a wrecker and swapped it in. Everything worked fine for about 3 months, and now he is back to no heated seat again (this time both the back and bottom sections stopped working at the same time)
A Lexus dealer spent 4 hours "diagnosing" the car and came back saying all electrical systems are normal, so they can't say why the bulbs are always burning out or why two different seats have stopped working. The car is getting up there in mileage (closing in on 200K miles) but has always been properly maintained.
Recently I did 2 drain and fills on my elantra HD with 112k miles about 2 weeks apart on the transmission replacing the fluid with Valvoline Maxlife atf. When checking the fluid level it smells burnt but still has a red color to it. Any body else used this fluid for extended amounts of time?

A few days ago, I got new tires on the front. The tire pressure light came on the next day. The front left tire seemed to be losing air. I brought it to the tire place.. They could find no leaking anywhere, although the tire had lost 5 pounds of pressure. The mechanic said the leak could be due to the TPM sensor? (He said, when he was checking the air pressure, the core stuck? ) Can a faulty TPM sensor cause air to leak out of a tire??
If that TPM sensor is indeed broken -- is the Tire place responsible?? --because this seemed to break right when they put new tires on my car.
I have a 2006 GS 430.
Absolutely love the car, however I do have a new issue with my headlights. Pretty much every time I drive at night, the headlights will both come on and then one will go off at some point. They almost always both come on, and then usually the left will go out while driving.
It doesn't happen necessarily immediately. Sometimes 2-3 minutes later, sometimes 20 min, sometimes they work fine. I took it to a local shop and they said the whole assembly needs to be replaced on each side. (Parts alone $1200/each side) and apparently the bumper needs to come off. Seems a little ridiculous to me.
Replaced both bulbs (left and right even though only left was out) with fresh H7s and my left headlight still doesn't work. so i thought, maybe fuses, but manual only references fuse #5 on both left and right fuse boxes as headlight control - but for XENONs only. Since i don't have HIDs, there is no fuse in spot #5 in either fuse box. Any other fuses i should check that i may be overlooking in the manual?

The left front headlight -sometimes- does not come on when I turn on the headlights. I can easily make it come on by giving the lens cover a gentle "bop" with my fist; it's not even a hard rap, just a bump, really. Alternatively, if I drive with the light out and hit enough bumps in the road, it will eventually come on by itself.
On the contrary, if the light is functioning, it will NOT go out just from hitting bumps in the road. I've replaced the bulb, it's not that. I've checked the wires, they're free of corrosion. I've used dielectric grease on the connections, to no avail. I'm assuming there is a short or loose connection somewhere but I cannot find it.
I just wanna know what is this low pitch buzzing sound on my left headlight when I switched key to ignite? When im outside the car, i can hear it in my left headlight. But when im inside the car, i can here it inside the high&low control of headlights (with numbers 0 1 2 & 3).
Before, when I am adjusting this control, the sound suddenly disappear for a second then it comes back. When im trying to push this control, the same. But now whatever adjustment or pushing to the control i am doing, the sound is still there continuously irritating to my ears.
My car model is Accent 2008....
01 Superduty headlight burnt out. Its a sealed beam, haven't changed one of those for years. Most are bulbs.
Anyway I took all the screws I could see from around the headlight door and underneath it.
Headlights still in there as solid as when I started. What screws I seem to be missing?
98 Accord AC died and left burnt chemical smell in it's wake...
View 8 RepliesMy daughter has a 2003 Elantra. The left tail light works but the brake light is out. I opened the trunk and removed the two screws for the cover and found the wire going through a rubber plug. Upon removing the plug, more wires and no bulb.
How do I get to the bulb? There appear to be three screws and bolts, one on each corner, holing the tail light in place. On the fourth corner is just a rubber-looking plug. Do I have to take the assembly out to change bulbs or am I missing something?
We noticed a burnt rubber/oil smell coming from our '01 Subaru Outback, no engine lights were on. When I looked under the hood, all the fluid levels looked good, but I noticed on the left side, about two thirds down the side of the engine, there appears to be a leak of gooey brown oil? from a hose running up over the engine. Do you think this is the source of the smell? What this is, how much it will be to fix or if we can safely drive it to the mechanic (we are about 45 min from town)? See photos here: [URL] ... View 5 RepliesI have a 2009 Elantra with 150k miles. It has recently started making a squeaking noise when I make left turns. It only does it when the car is moving and only when the turns are moderate to sharp (not on gentle turns). It seems to be coming from the engine bay but I can't really tell for sure. I had the steering column replaced last year. I haven't had any warning lights or adverse driving effects. I have posted a video on youtube with the noise.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2010 Elantra GLS with a loose steering wheel. When you hold the wheel, it can be moved about 1/2 inch up, down, left or right. The issue appears to be in the column, because the intermediate shaft joint under the dash does not move, i.e., no slop whatsoever from that point down. The front suspension is as tight as can be, the car just turned 40k. Im thinking maybe something with the tilt mechanism?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring Wagon. I've only had it for 3 months. Right after I got it, I noticed that the wiper on the driver side left streaks when used. I replaced both wipers with Trico Exact Fit, but the problem persisted. I just changed the driver's side one [b]again. This time with a $21 Teflon top-of-the-line blade (24"). It now streaks less, but the top 6" or so (outer edge of the wiper) still streaks.
Having ruled out the blades, could this be a wiper arm tension issue or am I using a blade that's too long?
My mother-in-law moved my car and put the emergency brake on (2010 Santa Fe) when she got out. When I got into drive home, I drove about 10miles with it engaged (for some reason the light didn't indicate it was on). When I got home I noticed a burnt rubber smell from the left rear tire. (no smoke though)
Our driveaway is an incline. After engaging/disengaging the e-brake, the light started coming back on again. If I put the car in neutral and release the regular brakes, it will quickly roll back. If I put the e-brake on in netural and disengage the regular brake, it still holds fine on the hill.
I know the damage can vary, but any test or check I can do to determine the amount of damage?
I bought an '08 Elantra about a month ago. A few weeks after buying it i noticed a creaking noise while turning the steering wheel to the left. It happens at low speeds or when stopped, but I haven't heard anything at high speeds. I can't tell for sure but it sounds closer to the inside of the car than the outside and will happen the entire time the steering wheel is turning to the left. No sound turning it to the right.
My brother liked my car so we test drove 3 other Elantras, 2 '08s and an '09. Two of them made the exact same noise. He ended up liking the one that didn't but after a while his started making the EXACT same noise too. I'm thinking this must be a common problem with the '07-'10 Elantras as all 4 cars had the same noise, but I can't find anything about it.
My right strut is bad and I'm having both front struts replaced Monday, so if it's something that can be done while he's doing the struts I'd like to find out before he takes everything apart so he doesn't have to do it twice.
Ok at 40 mph and above I have a loud humming noise coming from my left front wheel. I replaced my rotor and pads due to normal wear. I also replaced the bearing. No fix. Tires were rotated a month ago. Could it be my CV joint? The boots are fine.
View 3 RepliesI am just wondering how much mileage is left when the low gas warning light comes on? For my 2015 Elantra, the light comes on when the computer says there's about 100km left, but I don't know how accurate that is. I do keep track of my fuel economy, so it's simple match if I know how much gas is left in the tank. My owner's manual says the car has a 48 litre gas tank. When the warning light comes on and I fill it up at the gas station, it usually fills 39-40 litres before the "click". That would mean there's still 8-9 litres left before filling up. But is there actually 48 litres in the car at the "click" or is 48 litres just the complete maximum and the "click" comes on before that (e.g. a full tank is really only 45 litres compared to the stated 48)? What's the furthest you've driven with the low gas warning light on?
View 51 RepliesI have a 2003 hyundai elantra gt. All the lights and bulbs work, except for the rear left brake light. I've replaced it twice now, and used a bulb I know was good, so the problem is not a bulb. I checked the fuse, and the fuse is ok as well. When I measure at the bulb socket with an ammeter I get around 20 mA which I assume is too small and I assume there is a loose wire somewhere.
View 2 RepliesI currently installed my HID's and I saw that I needed to have a relay for them so I made sure I bought that too. They work but when I turn on the car sometimes the left headlight won't turn on I have to turn them off and on in order for it to turn on. The relay is connected straight to the battery so I don't see why it won't turn on. I heard of some diy capacitors but didn't see the link on those old threads.
