Elantra HD (2006-10) :: AC Not Working / Compressor Does Not Come On
Jun 14, 2015
Bought daughter a 2008 Hyundai Elantra and now that it's warm the AC doesn't work. The compressor doesn't come on but i was able to jump it from the battery and it works. Checked all fuses 2 of the three fuses work however, the third (A/Con Switch) I think is for the automatic climate control. This is manual. I added r-134 with the compressor running and it doesn't seem to circulate. Checked the pressure, Low side seems normal the high side is low.
So in a nutshell, the compressor won't work unless it's jumped from the battery and the high side of the system is low. Low side is normal. Could it be the relay? i didn't check that.

I have an 06 Sonata 4Cyl
My air conditioner has decided to stop working. The compressor wont turn on. This has happened in the past a handful of times but it has always come back either after changing my cabin air filter or just by itself after a few minutes. So far its been 24 hours and it still doesn't work.
From reading online, I'm thinking one thing to check is the Evaporator Temperature Sensor. It seems like that could explain the behavior in the past..
In the manual, it says "Pull out out the passenger's crash pad center low cover". Where is this?
After watching this video: [URL] .... I thought I knew where it was, but when I look in that location, I don't see any connectors.

Over the last half of the summer my A/C stopped working on three separate occasions. Surprisingly none during the day (~100 at the time) all happened at night. I would drive somewhere with the A/C on with no issue, however when I would get back in my car 5-30 minutes later nothing would come on. The A/C and recirculate light would come on as usual, but no air at all from the vents. I tried restarting the car, checked the fuses, nothing. Then maybe an hour or two later it would come back on. So far this has happened 4 times, with the most recent being a week ago. I took it to a dealer when it first started happening and they could not find anything out of the ordinary. The last time it happened, I drove straight to the dealer, only to have my A/C come on 50 ft from the dealer. Another odd symptom I have seen is when I switch the A/C to the off position occasionally it will come back on for two seconds and shut off. (electrical maybe?) At fan speed two it makes a quiet ticking noise that it didn't make when I first bought the car (though my '01 Accent made the same noise).

My 2009 elantra (160 k) ac is not working. The centre of the compressor doesn't turn when the ac is turned on and I don't hear any difference in the engine when turning it on (no extra load). I don't hear any clicks or anything for that matter. It just blows hot air.
From the research i have done it seems it doesn't necessarily mean the compressor is shot. It may just mean there is a leak in the evaporator core.
Is there a way to tell if the compressor is shot? I'm hearing that replacing the compressor is at least as twice as much as the evaporator core so I would like to go into a shop knowing one way or another.

The brake lights on my 08 Elantra aren't working, but the window light is. The bulbs are fine, although I did replace them anyways, the brake light switch isn't the problem and it isn't the fuse. Any other reason why the brake lights don't work?
My hazards and all other lights work - it is only the brake lights that aren't.

My rear defrost is not working. The display light on the push button switch comes on and I do hear a click when I push the button (I am assuming the solenoid) but no defrost.
I have not checked the fuse box yet but wondering if I hear the click, is it a fuse?
Also, if it could be a fuse where is it located?

I have a 2008 Elantra Sedan Limited. The far right control knob for the direction of airflow does not work anymore. A few months back int would make a short strange noise when switching from the feet or head to defrost, etc. Then is stopped working last month and now it only blows air to the head area. Is there a cheap way to fix this? My brother who is a parts manager at a Ford dealer says it is most likely a faulty switch inside and a dealer only item.

I have tried everything I know to fix the mode switch on the climate control. It's stuck in one position and I can't switch to floor or defrost. I've replaced the climate control panel and actuator and I STILL cannot get the modes to switch. I don't know what is is between the two causing it not to work. I've tried everything I know and I just can't seem to get anywhere. I only have a test light to see if voltages change and I can only get the voltage to change on one wire but none of the others.

Throughout the summer, when the AC was off, in fact the whole system was off, the AC light would flicker on and off, but would never do this when the system was on. Today, the AC stopped working out of nowhere. We are on vacation in a warm destination, so AC would be nice, even though it is almost December. We also want to spend our money on our vacation, not AC repair.

I have a 2008 Elantra w/ 108K miles. The current issue is the heat/ac blower intermittently not working. On Christmas Eve I started to drive it and realized the windshield was fogged up because blower was not working. The next day it worked fine...we chalked it up to maybe being related to having plugged a crock pot into the cigarette lighter (with a plug convertor thing)...wishful thinking that maybe something just got "overloaded." It has been working fine since, except last night when I started it, same thing--no air blowing on any of the settings (I read that if setting 4 works, but not 1-3, it makes a difference w/ the diagnosis). And, then again today...it works fine. Other things that I have noticed/that have happened in the past year or so (possibly unrelated, but figured it couldn't hurt to mention them just in case):
June 2013--started intermittently hearing a loud buzzing type sound (at first thought it was my phone vibrating)...sometimes would happen randomly, but mostly when I would adjust the heat/ac...sound coming from the passenger side front of the car floor area (maybe under glove box where I know the blower motor is). The buzzing would last anywhere from 2-20 seconds. Never did anything about it since everything was working fine...
Last winter--while driving home during a heavy snow storm w/ defrost on high and windshield wipers going noticed that the fan/blower seemed to "surge" when I stepped on the gas..like the blower would slow down when I braked and blast out much more air louder when I accelerated. I noticed this again tonight...possibly it has been ongoing and I just have not noticed.
Early Dec 2014-present--unable to adjust the temp setting...despite twisting the knob from red to blue, it remained hot air. Assumed it's the blend door, but figured we'd deal w/ it in the spring when I needed cold air again!
What this could be (or an overall problem that would explain all the problems?).

Push A/C button is always on green. The (air speed) 01234 button is also always on green. the Push button turns on and off orange whenever I click it.
Anyways, the AC doesn't blow any hot air... always just cold. I've adjusted the dial to red and have left it there for a long time... no hot air. Any trouble shooting I can do?

I have bought a 2007 Elantra recently, and I have noticed that power outlet/ lighter is not working. I have checked the fuse but it is ok. I have to access the back of the power outlet to check the cables but I do not know how can I do it. How can I access the back of the power outlet step by step. Looking for some pictures or videos ....

After not starting my car following several days of extreme cold, my battery died a couple of weeks ago, and after boosting the battery, I noticed a couple of electrical accessories (power windows, rear defrost, rear brake lights) are no longer working. I was told by a mechanic at the local Wal-Mart that it was possibly the main relay, which I replaced at the dealer, but that did not fix the issue. I've checked the individual fuses for these accessories, and all of them are OK. How to troubleshoot this?

My dad bought this car some time ago and it didn't have those parts (AC belt pulley, belt and High line cap, that sky-blue thing) but we didn't care, looks like the previous owner didn't use the AC system that much. Well, I had some time to put things to work, so I put the AC belt pulley, bought the belt (4PK810), found the cap and guess what, the AC works just fine!
But... there's this noise coming from the compressor ONLY when the AC is off. When I turn the AC on, that "thing" on the compressor starts to rotate and the noise disappears, and it comes back when it stops.
The compressor's clutch is at fault here? I've read a bit about it and maybe is that thing.
Or maybe the compressor just needs some maintenance after not being used for so long... What do you think?
The compressor is a HCC HS-15, like THIS ONE. The model is different, mine being CD1AA-03 and that one AKTCC-04.

The A/C compressor now shuts off while I am driving the car. The blower still blows air and the light for the A/C on or off stays lit. The only way I am able to get the a/c back on is to shut off the car and restart. The refrigerant level in the system is where it should be. Possible bad pressure switch or relay somewhere? The weather here in Vegas is a little warm so need to get fixed asap.

I just did the r12 to r134a conversion and full recharge thinking the compressor would turn on once a certain amount was added but it does not. I read elsewhere that you can use a paper clip to jump the A/C clutch switch and force it to turn on. I tried that by sticking each end of the paper clip into the switch (wire side) and the only thing that happened was my engine idle went up a little. I never heard the compressor kick on. Maybe a bad switch? I also read somewhere that the easiest way to bypass the clutch switch is to jump the a/c relay. Where is this located?

How I can tell if I have an AC leak or a compressor issue? I recently added freon and stop leak and the AC was blowing nice and cold for a week or so but now it takes a while to get cool but not cold like it was. How can you tell when you have a compressor problem?

I am trying to figure out why my AC is not working. Both fans are coming on and the AC button is light up but it is not blowing cold. The charge was checked and it has a good charge. The compressor appears to not be engaging. I checked for power at the electrical connector for the AC compressor and my voltmeter is showing voltage between 3.1-8.3 volts. It jumps around between that voltage every few seconds. The fuses have all been checked and are in not broken. What else should I be checking?

After the A/C Compressor was replaced anc charged, the mechanic said that it was still not working. He checked for the ground " and was receiving power ?.. He was thinking I made now need to take it to a Honda dealership and maybe there is a code they need to enter. He does not know if the Compressor or Clutch may have overheated something to shutdown to protect the ECM

I got a 04 V10 6.8L excursion with now all of a sudden the clutch won't engage in the compressor. Is there a shut off switch I don't know about or do I have to replace the whole compressor.

Ok My Ac doesn't work on my 05 Jetta 2.0 blows hot air. These are the steps taken so far to no avail
_Function test A/C System_ A/C is not cold_ Recover A/C, System was low
_Pressure test system with nitrogen for leaks_No Leaks Found
_Charge system and add dye
_Test operation
_Found compressor not cutting in_ Inspect for ground at compressor_OK
_Test for power at compressor_NO POWER GETTING TO COMPRESSOR
_Inspect fuses_OK
What's going on with this and what the next steps might be?
