Twice this week my 2008 Elantra turned off while it was in accessory mode.
I was listening to the radio as I've done everyday with no problem then the car shuts down.
I thought each time battery died but then it starts up a few hours later with no problem??
I have a question about turning the car into accessory mode when I shut the car off from running. Right now, when I push the button and shut it off, everything shuts off including the radio. But I want the radio to stay on when that happens. I couldn't find any settings on this and it seems really foolish that it would be designed that way.
View 2 RepliesI bought a used 2009 Prius. Somehow it refuses to go into accessory mode. I press the power button without stepping on the brake pedal and nothing happens. I wonder if this symptom is related to the fact that this car is supposedly equipped with SKS (fob has silver logo and there is a black square on driver door outside handle) but the smart key functionality does not work? (The car came with only one key fob.)
View 11 RepliesNew owner of a used 2010 here, and I cannot get the car into accessory mode. It should be simple, press the power button without your foot on the brake, right? but no... it just doesn't do anything.
But here's the thing - the car is a former rental (Zipcar), and I wonder if they somehow disabled accessory mode to avoid dead-battery issues?
The other (less appealing) possibility is that they broke it accidentally somehow while wiring up their magical gizmo that allowed Zipcard holders into the car with no key... but that doesn't make as much sense to me.
How long should 12V battery last in accessory mode?
View 19 RepliesI've had my 2009 Prius II for about a year now and I have NEVER been able to turn on the accessory mode. I followed the manual and put the smart key in the slot and pushed the power button while keeping my foot off of the brake pedal but I get NO RESPONSE. I tried holding the power button down, pushing it just once, and pushing it repeatedly. I've successfully engaged accessory mode on a similar interface before (on a hybrid Highlander) with no problem.
View 2 RepliesOn a 2011 RX450h, is it possible to disable the door chime when the drivers door is opened but the car is in accessory mode (i.e. not running)?
Since I just got the RX I've been playing a lot with the settings and audio presets. With the drivers door open the chime just continues forever and I cannot find any option to turn off the chime when in accessory mode.
So I wanted to play with the nav system (specifically figure out how to make it find POI along my route... why it can't tell me the compass direction along with the distance to the 17 different McDonalds is beyond me) and when I turned the car on in accessory mode (not depressing the pedal) it shut off after two mins. I tried both "levels" of accessory mode and the behavior was the same. The car was plugged in and actively charging. What am I doing wrong?
View 8 RepliesI parked my 2011 Sonata yesterday and turned it off.
This morning, I tried turning the car on, but there is no ignition. I can put in the key, turn it to accessory mode (the dash lights up), but once I turn the key further to ignition nothing happens (no noise). I don't think I have a dead battery.
My brother had this problem once before. It has something to do with the fact that the gear is not in 'P'. He managed to start it after he called roadside assistance, but I don't know what he did. The gear is currently at 'P'. I was supposed to go and get my range switch replaced today to fix this but I can't get it out of the driveway.
What I need to do to get it to start?
I know it is possible to go to "Accessory" mode without starting the engine. However, is there a way to stop the engine but stay in "Accessory" mode?
I started copying music from the SD card to the HDD. When I got to my destination, it copied maybe 150 of 200 songs. It would have been nice if I was able to stop the engine without disrupting power to the accessories and let it finish copying instead of having to start over again or having to leave the engine running.
Apparently, you can do it with a quick "tap" on a Nissan system. Is this possible with KESSY?
After clearing my 2013 Avalon today, which took about 2 hours to complete, I attempted to start the car and it would/will not turn over. I waited a bit and attempted again, same result. The battery appears to be fine, all the lights and the console are working, power windows, etc. The heads up display had this message: "Check Charging System" I have check the owners manual and read something about the car being in Accessory mode. Another item referred to the fuel system being disable. None of these examples make sense.
View 4 RepliesI purchased an '07 Elantra used about six months ago. Ever since I bought it, an issue with the climate control would pop up every few weeks.
Here's the issue: I'll hear a "click" under the passenger glove compartment, then the climate control would turn off. By "turn off", I mean if I have it on heat, then the heat would turn off. If I have it on AC, then the AC would turn off (including the little green AC light) and I get hot air (not ambient air from outside, but *hot* air). It turns off... then it turns back on. Then maybe a few seconds later it will do it again. Sometimes it turns off for a few seconds, sometimes it turns off for less than a second... for example... AC is on, blowing cold air... *click* :hot air: *click* back to cold air... a few seconds later, same thing happens.
The clicks seem completely random, and not triggered by any events, such as going over bumps in the road.
So I have an issue with my 2004 Elantra GT. I failed inspection because my CEL never turns on. Even when first starting the car. I originally had thought the bulb was burnt out, but it started working fine on its own a couple weeks ago. Then 2 days ago, it stopped working again. So, where should I start in finding the problem? I had a radio installed a couple of years ago, and I have had issues since. Like, my odometer button no longer works, and the radio will occasionally reset when I start the car. So maybe I should remove the dash fascia and see if there are any loose or unplugged wires?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2009 Hyundai Elantra. I've been having an issue where my radio turns off and on intermittently. To clarify, it will not turn itself on if the button was off. However, if I'm listening to the radio it can turn itself off and back on again multiple times. This happens on AM/FM/AM and Auxiliary. I'm assuming it happens with CD, but haven't listened to that lately.
Sometimes it happens in rapid succession, other times it's off for five minutes or more and comes back on. Other times it stays off. Sometimes it behaves as it should. It doesn't seem to matter if the car is warmed up or not. Is this merely a wonky fuse or something more sinister?
I have tried everything I know to fix the mode switch on the climate control. It's stuck in one position and I can't switch to floor or defrost. I've replaced the climate control panel and actuator and I STILL cannot get the modes to switch. I don't know what is is between the two causing it not to work. I've tried everything I know and I just can't seem to get anywhere. I only have a test light to see if voltages change and I can only get the voltage to change on one wire but none of the others.

I drove it home this way, but after sitting for 90 minutes, now it works fine. I've heard about the input and output sensors. What should I replace? I went to HMA service to get info on both sensors, but it wasn't detailed enough.
View 3 RepliesI have one 2004 Hyundai Elantra. It was parked outside for almost a year without being used. I recently installed a new battery and had the front brakes/rotors replaced - they were rusted on so tight the guy had to partly saw them off. So now that I have set the scene, why this car turns off in sharp turns. Luckily this only happened twice as i was driving slowly and turning into my driveway. I can turn the ignition and it goes right back on.

Having read this forum I assumed it was the tensioner, and finally replaced it last week @ 52k. Spun all pulleys by hand and all felt/sounded fine. Actually the old tensioner seemed fine too, even the belt- no cracks or wear, so I didn't replace belt at first, just tensioner.
Well new tensioner reduced the sound just a little, but still there at times, so I replaced the belt with a goodyear gatorback and that made the whine worse than ever. So I put the old belt back on, and am currently still dealing with some whine,
I don't have another ISF to compare to, but it can't be normal. It's not loud in cabin, my friends don't think anything of it, but I hear it and it's embarrassing.
Since I cant hear or feel an issue with any of the pulleys, is there a logical order in which I should start replacing them? I'm at a loss as for what to do next. I can't pinpoint where noise originates since it only occurs under load while I'm driving, but it's certainly from the accessory belt system.
My car is 2008 Sonata GLS 2.4L. Recently the ESC off light turns on always when I drive a while after started the car. It still drives fine. But I have concerns of safety issues.
I heard it's a common issue for Sonata even 2011 model. I also heard Hyundai recalls for a system upgrade because of ESC off light problem. If it's true, will the dealership do it for my 2008 pre-owned Sonata for free?
It drives fine, but anyway it could be an potential safety issue. So should I drive the car to the dealership to have it fixed? I heard may owners spent a lot of time and money but never have it fixed.
I have clicking noise coming from the accessory drive on my 3.3L 06 sonata. It started off as a squeaky noise upon start up. I have since replaced the belt and the tensioner and now it is a clicking/ticking noise. It seems to be a lot worse when the car is just started and it slowly goes away upon warming up. In addition, when the car is cold the voltage light will turn on around sharp turns and steering will get hard (almost like something is putting drag on the belt). What it could be?

For the last few months, it has been squeaking whenever I make hard left turns, (into parking spaces etc, usually low speed). I thought it was the brakes, but just replaced all 4 pads and all 4 rotors. So that officially eliminates that.
The car doesn't have any unusual vibration, tracks straight, so I don't think its a wheel bearing or anything. I jacked the car up and tried to shake the tire/wheel to see if there was any play but don't see anything.
