My wife just bought a 2008 Elantra. She says the AC was turning on and off on her way to work this morning. What to check?

View 6 RepliesOur 2007 Elantra horn keeps honking for about 20 seconds in the middle of the night, for the past week. Every night at about 1245 am it goes through two 20 second honking cycles with about a 10 second gap between the two cycles. The again at 230am, then randomly every hour until 7am.
We lost one of the fobs recently and the other was destroyed by a lawnmower a couple years ago. We figured someone found our fob and was pressing the panic button at night, but who would do that on a schedule? We had the dealership disable the cars receiver, it still honks.
Went back to dealership and explained that we found a bunch of similar stories which pointed to the hood switch malfunctioning. They said that was most likely not the case. They also said they didn't think they could fix it if they couldn't replicate it. They disabled the hood switch as a precaution, still honks on schedule.
For now I am disconnecting the battery at night and tomorrow when I find out where the horn is located, will disable it. I know that's a safety violation though. What other choice do I have. I have two theories.
I disconnected the battery to reset the car's clock. I figured if it was honking on some schedule, with the clock reset it should have changed, but it didn't. I suppose there's another CMOS type battery in the system keeping the odometer and other electronic data alive, which could also be holding this schedule.
My other theory is there some sensor malfunctioning at night as the temperature drops. Hard for me to prove or disprove this one.
Mother in law's 2008 Chevy Aveo had the ac stop working. I put gauges on the vehicle, and it was low on freon. I recharged the system, and the ac now works. Problem is, the fan under the hood cycles on and off. On every other vehicle I have had, the cooling fan should stay on the entire time the ac is working. This fan comes on for a few seconds, then shuts off. Every time it shuts off, my high side reading approach 300 psi. Then it comes on and high side drops to 200 psi. Is there an obvious reason that this is happening? Is it supposed to happen?
Forgot to mention, the ambient temp is 80 F, low side is 40, high side is 200, dash temp is 55 F. (A little high)
20 06 F350 6.0l ... Recently noticed when my climate control selector switch is on the off position, the a/c vacuum pump cycles for a few seconds then stops, then cycles, then stops.. Does this until it's changed to a different setting. Pulled the connector behind the selector and plugged the black hose and it stopped. Re-connected it and could hear site leaking so I kinked the white hose and it stopped. I have also lost my MAX a/c that is now defaulting to defrost. Is there a part number just got the hose selector, or a way to fix the existing one?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra with 78k miles on it. Yesterday, to my dismay, I couldn't get any hot air out of my vent. I have never once had an issue with the hot or cold airflow before.
My coolant level is good and the temperature gauge is a-ok. The air coming in was cold yesterday and cool today; it appears it's just outdoor air temperature (as opposed to straight up cold) that I'm getting.
I believe my radiator is also overdue to get flushed...not sure whether or not that has anything to do w/this.
Is this likely the blend door actuator? I'm no car guy but I've been reading a little. Also....looks like this part might be 40-50. How much do you think I should be paying for labor if this is fixed?
I was going to check the oil so I popped the hood and as soon as i did that the horn started to honk and the 4 ways came on. didn't have the key in the ignition. it wouldn't start either while this was going on. had to take battery cable off. Rehooked after awhile and the same thing.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. When it's windy out the alarm keeps going off. Especially if the vehicle has been locked with the remote. If I manually open the vehicle and lock it manually the alarm is fine. I have had it to the dealer and they say the system is fine and that the sensors are fine.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra GLS, about 110,000 miles. Just got a timing belt and water pump change about 3,000 miles ago. Over the course of the last six months or so, she's started squealing a bit on cold starts. Originally it was only for a few seconds or so about once a month. However, since I returned from a 1500 mile road trip, the squealing has started happening on every cold start. Turning the wheel full tilt to either side does not seem to have any bearing on the noise, only when I rev the engine gently up past 2500rpms. What this could be?
View 6 RepliesAbout 2 weeks ago my Elantra began displaying the symptom of struggling to start after fueling. The check engine light came on with P0170/P0171 codes for fuel trim malfunction. Did my research and replaced the fuel pump. After this, the car struggled to start all the time until after a few days, while I was driving, the car struggled to accelerate and jerked like crazy trying to. Did more research and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. After this the car drove beautifully for about an hour and then again stopped accelerating, jerking like crazy and lost all speed. Error code P0441 Evaporative Emissions now was the only one on. I filled the gas tank (it had been low) and for another hour the car was fine and then the trouble started again. After turning it off the car would not start at all. Now I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor but that did not fix it. All the relays and sensors look good. What to do next. It still won't start.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra Sedan Limited. The far right control knob for the direction of airflow does not work anymore. A few months back int would make a short strange noise when switching from the feet or head to defrost, etc. Then is stopped working last month and now it only blows air to the head area. Is there a cheap way to fix this? My brother who is a parts manager at a Ford dealer says it is most likely a faulty switch inside and a dealer only item.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra with 50,000 miles. I know I was overdue on the tranny fluid change and the car was getting bad gas mileage and skipping gears. I brought it in and had the tranny flushed and refilled and now its running good. I thought it would be good to get a price on spark plugs because the book said replace at 60,000. I called the dealer and he basically told me he has not sold many of the plugs and they should last 100,000.
I seem to be getting conflicting info on what should and should not be done at the maintenance books written schedule. I looked for a price on Fuel Filter air filter which is in the maintenance to replace but again conflicting info stating that should not be changed unless there is a problem. Anyway, what should and should not be replaced at specified intervals? I know the tranny fluid change should have been done at 30,000 because it was very dirty and causing issues for me.
Are there any 2008 Elantra drivers out there who have a problem with hesitation and dragging at the 35-40 mph range (3rd into 4th gears)? I'm told by the dealer that although there is a hesitation which he noticed as well after driving it, there is nothing that can be done until Hyundai issues a "fix." Learned my lesson here and will probably not purchase another Hyundai. My 2003 Elantra was a better ride.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra GLS and battery ran down. I hooked up a trickle charger via the cig lighter inside. Now the clock never goes off unless I unplug the trickle charger? What's up with that?
View 3 RepliesI just bought a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. Today I noticed that when I turn the key into the last position before starting (when the air/heat and radio work, but the engine isn't started), I hear a clicking sound coming from the front of the car. The clicks start as soon as I put the key into that position. After about 5-6 quick clicks in 2-5 seconds, it stops. The clicking is the same every time. It sounds exactly like when you're igniting a gas stove.
Just to be clear, the car starts fine. There is no clicking when I'm turning the key far enough for the engine to turn over. It's only when I put it in the last position for radio/ac/heat. Is this normal? I never noticed it with my other car.
I've just noticed my Elantra has a squeaking noise in the rear end when going over bumps or by pushing down on the rear of the car. This is less frequent in the cold weather of Wisconsin, but when warmer (for winter weather) the sound is pretty steady. This noise is a sqeak, not a rattle.
I took the car to a local shop and they were able to reproduce the noise, but not find the cause. They stated all the rear end parts are tight and nothing seems to be wrong. They did not want to start replacing parts guessing what the problem might be. They suggested I let the problem go for awhile to see if it gets worse.
My car has 86,000 miles and has been maintained. I have not replaced struts or rear end parts. The only parts needed have been a couple of sets of front end stabilizer link ends.
Twice this week my 2008 Elantra turned off while it was in accessory mode.
I was listening to the radio as I've done everyday with no problem then the car shuts down.
I thought each time battery died but then it starts up a few hours later with no problem??
2008 Elantra? Only has 17950 miles on it.
View 7 RepliesI just bought a 2008 Elantra SE with 26K miles. So far, I've really enjoyed it, except for, at times, it does vibrate somewhat during idle.
I took it to the nearest Hyundai dealer, and they clipped the throttle cables to the inside of the firewall. This did make some improvement, but I still feel vibration during idle when the engine is warm (doesn't seem to as long as RPMs are up). It's almost as if the idle is set a little too low.
Maybe this is just normal vibration? It's not too bad, just noticeable. Can idle in these cars be adjusted? It seems the car is too new to have clogged fuel injectors. Everything else about driving it feels great, acceleration, etc. Do you think using a higher octane gas would work?
Have a 2008 Elantra GLS with 63K miles. A/T was serviced by dealer at 51K. Car now occasionally downshifts from 4th to 3rd when driving between 60 and 70 mph. Happens only when trans is hot (after 2-3 hours on hiway). When it occurs, it searches for the right gear, going back and forth from 3rd to 4th for several minutes before returning to normal. One thing odd is if I shut the car off for 5 minutes after it occurs, it runs fine afterwards. Do I need an ECU update or do I have a A/T problem?
View 11 RepliesI own a 2008 Hyundai Elantra SLX manual which has made about 30000 km. I had no trouble with my car until recently. I hear a squeaking/screeching noise from the engine when it is on and the noise disappears when the clutch is touched or slightly pressed. The noise level goes up when the car is in motion and it increases with the speed. My mechanic thinks the noise is due to some kind metal-metal contact without any lubrication.
