My rear defrost is not working. The display light on the push button switch comes on and I do hear a click when I push the button (I am assuming the solenoid) but no defrost.
I have not checked the fuse box yet but wondering if I hear the click, is it a fuse?
Also, if it could be a fuse where is it located?
After not starting my car following several days of extreme cold, my battery died a couple of weeks ago, and after boosting the battery, I noticed a couple of electrical accessories (power windows, rear defrost, rear brake lights) are no longer working. I was told by a mechanic at the local Wal-Mart that it was possibly the main relay, which I replaced at the dealer, but that did not fix the issue. I've checked the individual fuses for these accessories, and all of them are OK. How to troubleshoot this?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2008 Elantra Sedan Limited. The far right control knob for the direction of airflow does not work anymore. A few months back int would make a short strange noise when switching from the feet or head to defrost, etc. Then is stopped working last month and now it only blows air to the head area. Is there a cheap way to fix this? My brother who is a parts manager at a Ford dealer says it is most likely a faulty switch inside and a dealer only item.
View 3 RepliesHave checked fuses in front of battery. Have checked fuses at left in trunk. Side mirror heaters are working and about 4 of the bottom rear window lines. What else.
View 4 RepliesJust curious, in comparison to other vehicles, does it seem that the rear window defrost works pretty slow in your Sonata? I park outside and notice it is slower than I would like for it to be in the morning. Heated mirrors work great.

My car is equipped with a remote starter, and I'm wondering if it is possible to set the rear defrost and the heating seats in order to having them activated when the car starts? I can not find any answers about that in the owner's manual or the remote starter manual. For now I have to activate these functions manually when I enter in the car. It would be great having side mirrors and rear glass defrosted before entering in the car.
We had a replacement rear windshield on 2009 camry , and now rear defrost does not work. Where would I look for a loose wire connection?

View 2 RepliesI have an 01 Alero that is a great little car with only 80k on it. Runs and drives like a champ but it has 2 issues that drive me nuts. The AC doesn't work at all. If you press the button on the dash, it does not light up. The compressor doesn't do anything either. I did check all the fuses trying to eliminate the simple but I didn't find any bad ones. What would be my next thing to check? Is it ever the AC relay?
Then the one that really frustrates me: the rear defrost. I live in MI, so 75% of the morning I need it to clear either snow, ice or fog. The button works but the lines don't heat up. I checked them all for power and none have power. I also checked each one for breakage and continuity and they are fine. I saw somewhere that the connection at the module likes to fry but I inspected it and didn't see anything burned.

My rear defrost stopped working at some point towards the end of last winter. I recently started to need it again with fall weather in Pennsylvania. I was able to find the fuse for it. I replaced it and that did not solve the problem. I took off the trim around the rear hatch window to make sure all the connections were solid and they were. Also the grid seems intact, I don't see any breaks in the defroster lines. The rear view mirror defrosters work whenever I hit the button to turn on the rear defrost.
At this point I am considering changing the rear defrost relay. I think it is located next to the fuse ...
Why can't hear the radio with the rear defroster on ??
View 6 RepliesI have a 2013 KR F150 SC 4x4 and have owned it since new. This big snow/ice storm that just came thru NC is probably the first time I have tried to use the rear window and mirror defrost . It does not work nor will the light come on the sync display. i pressed the button on the hvac as well as on the sync. My son says there is a TSB on this. I have 40,000 miles and the warranty is out. Also, its too cold to check the fuse today.
View 9 RepliesWindows just started fogging up over here in New York. So I went to turn on the deforst and I noticed that ten minutes went by and it didn't defrost the rear window whatsoever.
Seems like power is going to it because when I hit the defrost button the rpm shoots down for a second. I also checked the fuse and it's fine. The thing that's getting to me is I had my windows tinted a couple months back and I'm thinking they might of done something.
2005 Jetta Gli 1.8t. It decided to do some funky things on me today. I has been running perfectly fine up until I went out for dinner.
When I came back to start her up. Everything worked except for: Radio, Low Beams (both) Fogs, windshield wipers/fluid, rear defrost button, turn signals (but hazards worked fine) and the fan for my heater.
What was working, oddly enough are the amber lights, tails and brake lights, all other lights including the high beam, but ONLY in the position when the stalk is pulled toward the driver. (Have to hold it to keep the high beams on).
It's not the battery because my car wouldn't have started at all if that was the case. It's not the alternator because I disconnected my battery and the car ran just fine and never died. I checked all the fuses of the things that went out but nothing seemed out of the ordinary and all of them seemed just fine.
Where to look next or what to do. I have no check engine lights, or any lights for that matter so I have nothing to scan.
When driving over where road changes the incline (the degree from the horizontal plane; don't have the correct word for it) and the car is supposed to stabilize itself, the rear part of the car jumps up and down for several times, which feels as if rear shockers aren't working and the springs are shaking the car up and down.
View 8 RepliesOver the last half of the summer my A/C stopped working on three separate occasions. Surprisingly none during the day (~100 at the time) all happened at night. I would drive somewhere with the A/C on with no issue, however when I would get back in my car 5-30 minutes later nothing would come on. The A/C and recirculate light would come on as usual, but no air at all from the vents. I tried restarting the car, checked the fuses, nothing. Then maybe an hour or two later it would come back on. So far this has happened 4 times, with the most recent being a week ago. I took it to a dealer when it first started happening and they could not find anything out of the ordinary. The last time it happened, I drove straight to the dealer, only to have my A/C come on 50 ft from the dealer. Another odd symptom I have seen is when I switch the A/C to the off position occasionally it will come back on for two seconds and shut off. (electrical maybe?) At fan speed two it makes a quiet ticking noise that it didn't make when I first bought the car (though my '01 Accent made the same noise).
View 7 RepliesBought daughter a 2008 Hyundai Elantra and now that it's warm the AC doesn't work. The compressor doesn't come on but i was able to jump it from the battery and it works. Checked all fuses 2 of the three fuses work however, the third (A/Con Switch) I think is for the automatic climate control. This is manual. I added r-134 with the compressor running and it doesn't seem to circulate. Checked the pressure, Low side seems normal the high side is low.
So in a nutshell, the compressor won't work unless it's jumped from the battery and the high side of the system is low. Low side is normal. Could it be the relay? i didn't check that.
Yesterday my rear driver side turn signal just stopped working on my 2013 elantra. I replaced the bulb and it still isnt working. The front driver side turn signal is flashing at hyper speed.
The passenger side front and back turn signals work fine. Im planning on bringing my car into tomorrow for an oil change and to get this checked out hopefully it isnt an expensive fix.
My 2009 elantra (160 k) ac is not working. The centre of the compressor doesn't turn when the ac is turned on and I don't hear any difference in the engine when turning it on (no extra load). I don't hear any clicks or anything for that matter. It just blows hot air.
From the research i have done it seems it doesn't necessarily mean the compressor is shot. It may just mean there is a leak in the evaporator core.
Is there a way to tell if the compressor is shot? I'm hearing that replacing the compressor is at least as twice as much as the evaporator core so I would like to go into a shop knowing one way or another.
The brake lights on my 08 Elantra aren't working, but the window light is. The bulbs are fine, although I did replace them anyways, the brake light switch isn't the problem and it isn't the fuse. Any other reason why the brake lights don't work?
My hazards and all other lights work - it is only the brake lights that aren't.
My 2009 Elantra has a rattle in the right rear that I can't figure out. I read through the other thread that finally pointed to bad shocks.
1. I removed the shock and drove around- rattle continues.
2. I removed the sway bar link.- rattle continues
3. Checked caliper, seems fine
4. Wife drove me around while I was in trunk. The rattle is definitely coming from suspension.
5. Most rattling happens over very small road irregularities, not big bumps.
6. Rattling happens on or off the brakes.
7. Rattling is definitely a metallic sound.
