I have a question about turning the car into accessory mode when I shut the car off from running. Right now, when I push the button and shut it off, everything shuts off including the radio. But I want the radio to stay on when that happens. I couldn't find any settings on this and it seems really foolish that it would be designed that way.

I was listening to the radio as I've done everyday with no problem then the car shuts down.
I thought each time battery died but then it starts up a few hours later with no problem??
I want to know which method is the more appropriate and safer option to start the engine with a push button. There are two ways:
Method 1) You get in the car, press the brake, push the button to START
Method 2) You get in the car, push the button till all the lights come on, wait for a few seconds, press the brake, and push the button to START
Which one is more recommended? Does either option have any affect on the mechanism and life of the Push Button function?
Just got the new 2013 elantra 4 door sedan limited w tech package a couple of days ago...
I have the push button start and it works well.. no problems there.. but I noticed there is a small light on the button and it never turns on.. even at night. The font itself which reads "Start/Stop the engine" does glow blue at night or when the lights are turned on..
I have a 2011 elanta limited with the push to start. 3x now I will park and push to turn off car. & it turns engine off but navigation and such stay on. Ill try to start it up and try again, exact same thing. Then I give up and get out and it will beep because my keys aren't nearby and continue to stay on. It's lasted an hour tips so far until it will cooperate.I can't completely turn it off. More info, 3x in 4months. Not driven or done anything differently any of those times.
View 8 RepliesSanta Fe 2013. I bought it a few months ago and soon after a strange issue appeared from time to time. When I push the start/stop button it spins the engine but it wont start no matter how much I wait. Usually it start fine for the second time. This happens sometimes and sometimes not. About 2 months ago it didn't want to start for about 5-10 minutes no matter what I tried (push the button with the tip of the key), so I decided to go to a service station.
There they connected the car to a computer to check if there were any error codes logged. But they haven't find anything, after the second time I visited the station they replaced the battery in the key, told that maybe that was the problem.
I really don't know much about cars but it was a strange idea as I would expect the same behaviour when the battery is low than when the key is not present: Car not doing anything but displaying a message that the key is not present.
Anyway, it kinda worked, or I was lucky. For more than a month everything was fine, not a single issue. And today morning it started again. I brought my car to a hand washing, and after they cleaned the outside with steam they wanted to park the car inside the building to clean the interior, and the same issue occurred. And after that it happened with me as well several times this day.
I have a 2013 Elantra GLS, with Push Start ignition.
Whenever I get out of my car for a few minutes, I keep the engine running, so what I do is, I keep the Smart Key inside the car, and remove the physical key trying to lock the doors from outside (I do this to keep the car cool from inside because the heat in my country is scorching!)...what I found recently is that as I do this, only the driver door gets locked, and all the other doors are still unlocked...I don't know if this is a fault or standard....
I bought a used 2009 Prius. Somehow it refuses to go into accessory mode. I press the power button without stepping on the brake pedal and nothing happens. I wonder if this symptom is related to the fact that this car is supposedly equipped with SKS (fob has silver logo and there is a black square on driver door outside handle) but the smart key functionality does not work? (The car came with only one key fob.)
View 11 RepliesNew owner of a used 2010 here, and I cannot get the car into accessory mode. It should be simple, press the power button without your foot on the brake, right? but no... it just doesn't do anything.
But here's the thing - the car is a former rental (Zipcar), and I wonder if they somehow disabled accessory mode to avoid dead-battery issues?
The other (less appealing) possibility is that they broke it accidentally somehow while wiring up their magical gizmo that allowed Zipcard holders into the car with no key... but that doesn't make as much sense to me.
How long should 12V battery last in accessory mode?
View 19 RepliesI've had my 2009 Prius II for about a year now and I have NEVER been able to turn on the accessory mode. I followed the manual and put the smart key in the slot and pushed the power button while keeping my foot off of the brake pedal but I get NO RESPONSE. I tried holding the power button down, pushing it just once, and pushing it repeatedly. I've successfully engaged accessory mode on a similar interface before (on a hybrid Highlander) with no problem.

Recently found that trunk area light will not turn ON when you open hatch (in DOOR mode). First I thought bulb is burned out ,but I can manually turn it ON and it will stay ON always or until I switch it to OFF. No recent hits/bump on hatch or any warning lights on dashboard that hatch is not closed. Alarm locks hatch and the rest of the locks OK.
On a 2011 RX450h, is it possible to disable the door chime when the drivers door is opened but the car is in accessory mode (i.e. not running)?
Since I just got the RX I've been playing a lot with the settings and audio presets. With the drivers door open the chime just continues forever and I cannot find any option to turn off the chime when in accessory mode.
So I wanted to play with the nav system (specifically figure out how to make it find POI along my route... why it can't tell me the compass direction along with the distance to the 17 different McDonalds is beyond me) and when I turned the car on in accessory mode (not depressing the pedal) it shut off after two mins. I tried both "levels" of accessory mode and the behavior was the same. The car was plugged in and actively charging. What am I doing wrong?

This morning, I tried turning the car on, but there is no ignition. I can put in the key, turn it to accessory mode (the dash lights up), but once I turn the key further to ignition nothing happens (no noise). I don't think I have a dead battery.
My brother had this problem once before. It has something to do with the fact that the gear is not in 'P'. He managed to start it after he called roadside assistance, but I don't know what he did. The gear is currently at 'P'. I was supposed to go and get my range switch replaced today to fix this but I can't get it out of the driveway.
What I need to do to get it to start?
I know it is possible to go to "Accessory" mode without starting the engine. However, is there a way to stop the engine but stay in "Accessory" mode?
I started copying music from the SD card to the HDD. When I got to my destination, it copied maybe 150 of 200 songs. It would have been nice if I was able to stop the engine without disrupting power to the accessories and let it finish copying instead of having to start over again or having to leave the engine running.
Apparently, you can do it with a quick "tap" on a Nissan system. Is this possible with KESSY?
After clearing my 2013 Avalon today, which took about 2 hours to complete, I attempted to start the car and it would/will not turn over. I waited a bit and attempted again, same result. The battery appears to be fine, all the lights and the console are working, power windows, etc. The heads up display had this message: "Check Charging System" I have check the owners manual and read something about the car being in Accessory mode. Another item referred to the fuel system being disable. None of these examples make sense.
View 4 RepliesI just recently purchased a 2013 Elantra Coupe, and the Engine Start Stop button will not light up anymore. The small LED above the "Engine Start Stop" lettering still lights up blue or amber if it's in ACC or ON mode, but the lettering itself no longer lights up.
I'm not sure if it's supposed to stay lit while driving, but I noticed it started to flicker at various rates, and then eventually it stayed lit. Now, it's not lighting up at all. I'm wondering if there's a fuse anywhere that could be associated with this or anything I could check myself before taking it to the dealer. I haven't had a single issue getting the car to start with the button, just wondering what could be causing the lettering on it to not light up any longer.
Thinking about adding some led lighting on a switch to my 2013 elantra gt. I've noticed that on the left of the drivers console there are 4 blank plates on the switch panel next to the eco and dimmer switches.
I took apart the dash to see if I could just pop one out and add a rocker switch of some sort only to realized that the switch panel is all one assembly with a circuit board inside. Added a switch to their 2013+ elantra?
2014 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Wondering why the hvac acts like it is in recirculate mode with the A/C button pushed in manual mode. Have window cracked to force smoke and odors out of cabin. On vent mode it pushes air right out, in A/C mode it acts like recirculate is partially on and in recirculate mode it draws outside air in like you would expect recirculate to do. Trying to decide if I have something wrong or the nature of the beast. My GM vehicles do not act like this.
View 1 RepliesI usually drive with front defogger on because for some reason our Elantra GT like to fog. When I shut the car off, usually there's the normal sound of some vent or air dam closing. Well, there's a new noise while doing it; it seems like it's struggling to close and making a tap-tap-tap noise. I'm not talking about the normal electrical tapping noise when you shut the car off. It sounds like coming from the driver-side dash.
