I'm getting a "thunk" or "clunk" noise when driving over bumps/patched/uneven roads in my Elantra GT.
It's a hollow noise, I don't hear it unless I hit a bump/patch in the road. Doesn't have to be a large bump.
25k miles, Automatic Transmission. it almost seems to be one side (right) more than the other.
Is this a common issue for this model/year? What was the cause?
This morning i've been to toyota to do the regular service and to try to find that what is creating this noise on my front end ,they removed brackets etc and lube anti roll bar bushes and top mounts as best possible. Still the noise is there. We recreated the noise this morning by circling around at full lock multiple times . They said that if the lube would not solve the problem it could be the struts mount.
View 5 RepliesThe front struts n my 2010 camry se with about 51k on it and it makes a horrible clunk and pop noise when going slowly on uneven roads and over speed bumps. I got out to check the cause and found it to be he top of the strut coming through the strut mount is making the popping sound and seems like it has more than normal movement... does this happen to many? is it a common issue...
View 2 RepliesSo I know the 2013 GS (or many GS in general) have had complaints of squeaks and rattles. My GS has a couple but are very minor and only occasional.
I do have one noise that seems unusual though. When I am driving and drive over moderate bumps in the road, I hear a muffled clunk or thunk type of noise only from the rear passenger area and never anywhere else.
My car is a stock CPO 2013 F sport and not lowered or anything. Stock rims and tires. The shock does not seem to be leaking.
The noise happens regardless of if I am in regular or sport+ modes. Was going to mention it to the dealer at my next oil change and door trim replacement appointment I need to make Ina couple months.
My 11 f150 started to make a jingle noise like washers in a bag while driving over uneven bumpy roads. Normal highways are fine and it does it turning or going straight. Seems to be coming from drivers side. I replaced the swaybar link ends with moogs. Didbt fix the problem. I also removed the bushings abd lubed them with white lithium grease. Still the same sounds on the same conditions. I did t replace the bushings with new ones. I still have a extended warranty on the truck. Might take it in...

UPDATE: Ok-yesterday I was driving around RAFB on some uneven roads and I listened very closely as I drove over the minor road imperfections/small bumps. I did hear/feel a thumping noise. When I entered the smoother surface road leading to the exit gate-NO thumping. Bottom line: it doesn't bother me-when driving on bumpy roads I think you're going to hear a bit of suspension noise (IMO). I'd rather hear the thumping noise than a louder clanging/mechanical noise. I have the solaris 21 tires and that could be the thumping noise. Again-no big deal to me.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that I purchased in early July, which now has around 5500 miles. Sometime within the past couple of months, I noticed a dull clunk that occurs within the first 100 yards or so of driving. This seems to happen only when the car has not been driven for a few hours (although it seems more frequent lately), and it sounds as if something has dropped from the bottom of the car, between the front seats.

View 10 RepliesSo, I have a clunk that sounds like it's coming from the rear end, almost more of a knocking sound. It sounds to me like the driver's rear, but only hearing it in the driver's seat probably distorts my perception. The sound only occurs over bumps or uneven areas in the road. I've played with the end-links and they seem fine. I can't find anything visually obvious.
View 4 RepliesSo i am trying to diagnose my vibration/noise that i am getting from the front right side of my 08 prius (176k miles). It kind of like a rattle vibration when driving on fairly smooth roads. I jacked up the right side to take a look around to see if anything is out of the ordinary. I did the push pull around the tired to see if there was any motion (there was none). Although there is some play when you manual rotate the wheel, about and inch of circumferential motion. Is this normal ?
View 6 RepliesAfter driving in the rain and starting the car again after a few hours (as in starting the car again after work, or starting it first thing in the morning) the following happens: As soon as I release my foot from the brake pedal to go into "drive," there is a "thunk" sound from the rear of the car as well as a lurch. A soft "thunk" may have a soft 'thunk" sound, but a louder thunk will have a pronounced lurch/jerkiness from the rear. The car drives OK and has no problem with braking when I apply the brakes.
It happens only after driving in the rain. The dealer says the sound and movement are the normal result with disc brakes wearing off the rust on the rotors. Other wet weather concern (happened once): while driving in a couple inches of snow, the brakes began to grind and eventually failed to bring the car to a stop. Dealer rotated the rear rotors (due to uneven wear, although I had the car only two weeks at the time) and installed new rear brake pads. He said grinding brakes on an Elantra are normal in rainy, snowy, and dusty conditions. Is my car really safe to drive? Is there a problem? I'm considering trading it it as I don't feel safe. It is an otherwise OK car.
I have a 2011 SF 2.4L FWD GLS with 79k miles. I replaced the OE struts and shocks 3 weeks ago with Monroe OE Spectrum struts and shocks. This improved the ride tremendously especially on the front passenger side where the strut was leaking.
After driving it for 3 weeks I still feel a little rattle or clunk when driving over ruff roads at slow speeds. I did check the ball joint and wheel bearings while I was in there, and I am certain they are not the source of the noise. I also checked the strut mount when I transferred it to the new strut, and while it appeared and felt ok I think it is the most likely cause of the remaining rattle and clunk.
Any aftermarket strut mounts for this particular model year? I have looked at RockAuto and they have a Moog Part # HYSB9816. This part claims it is for the European builds. Is there really a difference for this particular part?
My 2014 Elantra Gt bought in May 2014 and 18000km on it now, the rear tires on both side are worn out pretty bad on the outter side of the tire. I took it to one of the dealer. The mechanic said that's not about the alignment, it's because I drove too hard in the corner..... So, I made an appointment with the other dealership which I bought the GT. I was told that it need the alignment and it's not covered by the warranty. I don't mind to pay for it but just want to make sure they will fix it.
I have the KYB on it right now. should I swap it back to the oem before I go to the dealer??
Notice a clunk noise when brake applied and first it seems when the car is turning right, but now I think as long as the surface is uneven it would do that as long as the brake is applied at the same time. It's a 2014 Sport Ltd.
View 4 RepliesMyself and ZAC1 have an identical issue regarding ride height on our GT's. The rear driver side is lower than the rest of the car (or the passenger side is higher).
In my case you can notice it just by looking at the car from a distance, mainly from the rear. Using a tape measure to check the height of the wheel well to the ground, the driver side is 26", the passenger side is 26.5". I have measured it on a variety of surfaces just in case my garage was on a slope.
There is a small clunk in the front end and I think it could be the hood. When I press on it with my hand I get a small clunk. I have had the dealership look at it and they are not sure of any way to adjust it. Most cars have rubber topped screws to adjust the hood for a tight fit, but the elantra does not have it.

View 3 RepliesI have a CPO passat and it drives like a dream, except when I'm cruising on city (NYC) streets at about 15 mpg on uneven roads. I'd recently noticed a very slight hissing sound coming from the front end. Ever threw one of those silent but violent hissing farts? Yeah it sounds like that. And I'm not even talking about bumps, just uneven roads like driving over a man hole cover. It's quite annoying and with the summer coming i want to drive with my windows down. I'm going to take it to the dealership, but I'd like to pinpoint the issue to them. oh yeah, it only hisses when the car is hot, so it's quiet right after a cold start.
View 5 RepliesI'm having a problem with a rattle that's in the front end of the car. I only hear it when I'm driving over "off roads" (uneven terrain) and not streets. The sound is not entirely Metallic but sometimes I get to hear rubber against rubber. I already changed motor mounts and stuts mounts but the rattle is still there. Is there anything else I should look for? I've had this rattle for over 5 months now!

They are both tight, but it seems as though the "floating" ability of the caliper is loose.....does that make any sense? I mean you can grab the caliper and it'll make a rattling noise, but the bolts are tight..
