I've got two places in my steering wheel that seem to be peeling (I can feel it with my fingers, can't see it as it's pointing towards the dash, away from driver). Only noticed it a few days ago. Locations are approx 5 and 7 o'clock. Strange as we never put our hands in that location. I just passed 1 year, approx 21,000 kms.
View 15 RepliesFour months on and today I noticed my 3M carbon fibre wrapped exhaust tips are beginning to crack and peel in the corners. I am thinking exhaust heat finally drying the glue backing out causing them to dry up like old leaves.
Also after Plasti Dipping my logos I have had no luck with the rear tailgate F Sport logo in removing the fine SPORT centre fill cleanly to reveal the white background on my white GS. Everywhere else went perfect. Not keen on leaving a silver logo with all other blacked out on the back end.
The gray film/paint over the steering wheel controls on my 2007 ES350 has started to peel off. Is this is a common problem among the earlier years? I noticed the current models have a redesigned steering wheel control that seems to have done away with this film all together.
View 14 RepliesEver since the first week of owning my 13 Elantra I've noticed my steering wheel isn't centered when driving straight not just by a mm or 2 it's pointing slightly to the left, I would guarantee most of you would hate this as much as I do! I went in to an alignment shop and they said during transport over rough sea's they're strapped down tight and the violent sea can cause them to shift which causes my issue, thought that was a bit of BS but surprisingly enough the dealer said the same!? I'm at 3000kms at the moment after 3months and was instructed to put at least 20,000kms before bothering with it! This is the only new car I've ever bought it only had 8kms when I took it for its test drive and never noticed this and there were about 3kms put on since the test and pick up and that was them filling the tank and getting it ready!?
View 13 RepliesI noticed that my steering wheel was a bit to the right when I drive straight so I had an alignment done. After the alignment the problem was not solved so I went to Hyundai again to redo the alignment. They told me that they redid it and also that my tires are worn unevenly so they rotated them. My problem is still not fixed! I called Hyundai yesterday and they insist saying that alignment is good and the problem are the tires. To me that don't make sense cause even with my summer tires the problem is there.
View 23 RepliesI have a 2013 elantra gt. Recently my steering wheel controls just stopped working, I'm over miles on the warranty so if I take it to the dealer it'll cost a fortune. I looked through the manual to see if I can find what fuse the controls would be on but I can't seem to figure it out. I'm hoping it's just a fuse issue not electrical. How to fix it.. My ocd is kicking in cause I can't change the trip back to miles to empty. What fuses to check. My next idea was to beat up the steering wheel...

I've noticed it for awhile now but didn't think too much of it but now that it's warmed up enough for the windows to be down, it's starting to annoy me
I read the TSB a few months back regarding the rubber coupling in the MDPS unit but it seems more like a suspension noise to me.
My '98 Honda CRV with 190k miles has begun to make a curious sort of noise. I noticed a sort of humming noise coming from in front and somewhat to the left of the steering wheel a couple weeks ago, but could never get it to happen while I had the hood up in my driveway. The other day I rolled down the window and drove slowly around my neighborhood to figure out what made the noise happen.
First thing I learned is that it is much louder than I initially thought. And it sounds like a sort of screeching metal on metal sound, with a sort of humming. It always starts when I am moving slowly, such as when starting from a stop at a stop light, or going very slowly around the neighborhood. Turning the steering wheel seems to aggravate it, and make it more likely to start screeching. It will begin while driving straight, however. Once the noise begins, it stays until I come back to a complete stop.
I even tried stopping it by putting it in neutral and using the parking brake, and no difference, so nothing to do with the brakes. The brake rotors were also turned by the previous owner before selling it. My first guess would be a CV joint, because the boot on that wheel is not sealed properly. But my father, in his experience, says bad CV joints could make the steering feel more loose, and when starting and stopping you could feel some slop, neither of which he could detect when driving it. Steering feels tight, there is no play, and I have not been able to detect any other deficiency besides that awful noise.
So, is this a CV joint? A wheel bearing? Is it something else I have not thought of? And, how difficult are these to replace yourself with a good set of tools?
I recently trade in my 2013 2.5 B7 for a 2014 TDI... the car its great!!! Love the MPG.... but since day one the moment i let go the steering wheel the car goes to the right... took it twice to the dealer and they say its normal... they have performed 2 alignments and other things and the car still the same....
View 24 RepliesWhen turning the steering wheel slowly while from a stop or slow speed there is a grinding sound coming from the front end. It isn't very loud but you can also feel it in the steering wheel.
Is there a common thing/problem with these? I know there isn't a pump. There isn't any kind of a vibration or wobble at highway speed.
I have had my 2013 Accent SE about 6-months. Upon beginning my drive to work this morning, my car's steering wheel was tilting as if it was turning right on it's own and the car was pulling to the right (I park in the same spot at my house and drive down the same street everyday). The car was pulling as if the right front tire was completely flat, but the "low tire pressure" light was not on. OR the car was pulling as if my alignment was completely out-of-wack (I have not hit any potholes in recent weeks). I stopped and checked and upon visual inspection - all tires looked good. But being OCD and loving my car, I checked the tire pressure - all 4 good. I got back in and drove maybe another 10-feet and the problems fixed itself. When I got on a flat, smooth stretch of road I tested the alignment by lightening up off the steering wheel - drove as straight as could be.
One other thing - when I got out of the car to check the tires, I left the car running. The "door open" light on the dashboard came on but there was no door open dinging. I have honestly never paid attention as to if my car has ever dinged when the car is on and the door is open. Does the 2013 Accent SE ding when the door is open and the engine is running?
My Elantra has been making a click noise every time I turn the steering wheel. The noise comes from somewhere in the area behind the wheel, not from the engine apartment.
If I turn the steering without turning on engine, the noise could still be heard. So I am quite sure its' not a power steering problem.
So far there is no effect on driving, I could turn normally and the power steering works well.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the indicator light switch as they still work as normal.

View 5 RepliesMy daughter called me from a gas station where the steering wheel, on her 2012 Elantra,Limited, locked into place and the ignition key wouldn't turn.
I told her that my Sante Fe does this occasionally and I just wiggle the steering wheel a bit until the key freely turns.
She said she tried wiggling the steering wheel several times, before calling me. After some more wiggling, while she was talking to me, she got the key to turn ....
She has owned the car for about 1- 1/2 years and this is the first time it has happened.
I'm wondering if I have a problem or if its a matter of not used to this new "fly-by-wire" steering system cars are going to.
When I put my hands at 11 and 2 on the steering wheel and slowly slide my hands down to 9 and 3, the steering wheel has a shimmy/vibration. Doesn't happen while driving, turning, or anything. Is this normal? I could get the camcorder out and do a small video of it.
Ok try this. On your 2011-13 Elantra if your driving below 60 on backroads and the road slightly turns to the left or right when you get back to a straightaway does the wheel automatically center itself or will it stay turned in the direction you just slightly turned? My wheel stays turned in the direction of the turn and I have to manually move it back to go straight. I have a 2013 Elantra GLS Auto.
View 8 RepliesThis is a known issue with Lexus. Bring your Lovely RX to the dealer so they can replace the Steering wheel column, so it will stop the "Squeak" noise.
View 2 RepliesI can't drive my 2013 ES300h straight (on a straight & level road) with out turning the steering wheel to the right, then to the left (over & over again) . To be clear, I do not have to turn the wheel much at all but it has to be turned to keep it straight. I had Lexus do a 4 wheel alignment yesterday and it did not work at all. Is this normal ?
View 9 RepliesI was driving my car to the store and was streaming music using Pandora through the 'apps' in the car. The music suddenly cut out and came back a minute later but the screen said "Pandora could not be started" even though it was playing music through Pandora. The screen was locked (I could not select anything or change the program I was listening to).
As that was all going on, I came up to a stop light and waited at the light completely stopped. As I sat there, my steering wheel suddenly started twitching to the left by itself every second or so for four times and then stopped. After that, my Pandora started working correctly again and everything was normal including no more steering wheel twitch.
When you turn off the engine the steering wheel and seats will retract to allow more space for you to exit the car. Side mirrors will fold up. Motion happens in reverse when you sit in the car and start the engine.
Is there a way for me to turn off these auto features to save their motor life?
