I have the Durango with the GPS REC model. I'm looking to add a HD radio add on receiver. Can I reach up to the back of the radio system and disconnect the antenna. I need to do this so I can put the car antenna into the receiver end and the jumper antenna back to the radio? If this cannot be done by reaching the back will the radio have to be partly removed to get access to the antenna?
View 1 RepliesI have an intermittent squealing that comes from behind the radio. The fan must be turned on and it does not matter if the AC is on or off. At 30 mph or when you turn the fan off the noise stops. I have replaced the fan, also the fan is located under the dash on the right hand, side away from the noise. As I said this an intermittent problem so it is hard to find. This problem is on a 2001 Dodge Durango with 150,000 miles.
View 1 Repliesbeen off and on having problems with my r/f speaker cutting out, not completely-i get a little noise from it. ive replaced the speakers in the front but found since i have the audiophile system, they sounded terrible. i removed what i believe to be a crossover from the factory speaker & reinstalled the crossover with the factory connector & tweeter, but spliced in the new 6x8s. this made it sound wonderful again. now i still seem to be having the problem and found if i unplug the radio and plug it back in it will work good again for a short period of time.
my question is can i use any ford radio that looks like it is the same, I like the ones with the chrome on thje. Or should i just get a kenwood or something. i dont want to spend a ton of money. and will an aftermarket head unit decrease sound quality since i have the audiophile as the speakers originally did without the crossover.
I have a 99 Durango 5.2L V8. The radio all of a sudden will turn on and off but won't do anything else. Not one of the buttons on the console responds except the on off button. Can this possibly be a fuse or is the radio itself just shot?
View 2 Replies1998 Honda Civic EX. This has been a great car and have got a ton of good miles on it. The problem that I am having now is with the temperature gauge. The measurement is completely all over the place while driving. While moving around town, the gauge shows the temperature VERY hot. As soon as I reach a consistent speed, the temperature drops back to normal (moves very erratically!). The gauge seems to get even hotter while idling. Another issue (may or may not be related) is the heat coming out of the vents is only working while the car is in motion. While stopped, it pumps out cold air. The temperature immediately changes when I get going again. Both problems seem to be getting worse. The car has coolant, and all other levels of fluids are normal.
View 14 RepliesMy 2005 Mazda Tribute has an ABS warning light that comes on as soon as I reach 40 mph. It will remain on after that no matter what speed I drive until I turn the car off. The braking system appears to function normally with normal breaking even if the light is on. With hard braking the ABS performs as it should too, rapidly oscillating the braking force. If I restart the car and keep the driving speed below 40 mph the ABS light never comes on. Otherwise, the car runs great. What is causing the ABS light to come on at 40 mph and how do I fix it?
View 2 RepliesOur 2005 Mazda 3 appears to have a problem with the thermostat. My mechanic read a check engine light code connected with a thermostat problem. My wife has noticed that the car seems to take longer to reach normal operating temperature than it used to (close to 15 minutes of driving). Other than probably diminishing the gas mileage and having to wait longer for nice heat is there any down-side to this problem? Is it likely to get worse and fail altogether? The shop guesstimates it will cost around $150.00 to replace.
View 15 RepliesI have a 2005 Durango, ~142k miles. The end of May, I had to get the transmission solenoid replaced, which may not be relevant. About 10 days later, the car started overheating when idling. There was a crack on the radiator neck, by the cap, and I had to get the radiator replaced, and the thermostat. The shop said the fan was wobbling, and they replaced the fan clutch as well. The fan was a lot louder than it had been, the mechanic said he had put in a higher performance fan in and maybe that was why, and offered to put in a lower performance one if I wanted. I declined.
Six weeks later, it started overheating while idling again. I brought it back, and the water pump was out. By now I was checking the temperature gauge constantly when idling, and it never quite hit the center until suddenly after 4 weeks, then it suddenly started overheating while idling again. I brought it back again, and they couldn't find any problem except he said the radiator was about a cup low, and maybe there had been an air bubble.
I've been constantly checking the temperature gauge since, and it once again never quite hit middle until 2 days ago, and now suddenly it's overheating when idling. I checked the coolant level after it had been sitting for a couple hours (and I had only driven it for about 10 minutes so far this morning, before that. I'm afraid there is a blown head gasket or something, but if so, why would it run so well for an extended period, and then suddenly start overheating again, twice now? They haven't done a compression check.
In case this is relevant, every few days the car will just stall out when coming to a stop, and sometimes the idle seems rough.
I have a 2005 Durango and it just dies on me and when I shut it off it won't start. It turns over but nothing else, Just started today. Starter? Crank sensor?
View 1 Replies44k miles . I have a 2005 Durango Limited with the GPS and DVD. The ac control is the digital display with auto sense. Also has rear ac and heat. The ac works great plenty cold but if I take a long drive up to 2 hours the ac will cut off like no air is coming out. I put the fan on high and you can hear the air but none comes out the top vents just a little from the Bottom vent, it is cold but very little air like someone closed the blend door. Also no air from the rear ac which can be controlled from the front or the back controls.
If I stop the car and let sit for say 20 minutes engine off then restart the car and turn on the ac all works well again for the next couple of hours. I have no problem driving around town with the ac on everything works well all speeds and directions. No check engine lights or codes!!
I have a 2005 Durango with the 4.7L engine with 140,000 mile and there is a burning oil smell coming through our vents. I also smell it when stopped at a light or drive thru and when the hood is raised. Our mechanics can't find anything. We've changed the plugs and wires, replaced the valve cover gasket and water pump recently, and can find no leaks or evidence of leaks. It uses oil a little, but mostly over a long period of time or on long trips.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 Dodge Durango, 5.2 liter hemi engine, 135,000 miles. For the last three months the car has emitted a high-pitched whine when the engine starts, while the transmission shifts through the gears, and while the car is at speed. The tone remains the same as the car runs, but it seems liked to the engine revs as the transmission shifts. A very reputable mechanic has tried to find the source without success. He's run all the diagnostics, and used a stethoscope. He checked the alternator and the power steering pump and replaced two belt pulleys, but the whine is still there. He so far has not been able to locate the source. He says he's heard the same noise on a couple of other Dodges or Jeeps with the same engine. I'd like to know what's causing this whine and how to fix it.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2005 Durango. Started stalling out only a few days after I bought it (June 2010). Replaced EGR valve. Throttle body service. Back to the dealer several more times--couldn't find problem. Stalling, revving, hard shifting, hesitating, lack of power progressively worsened. Transmission rebuilt in Jan 2012, bell housing leak and repair in June 2012, torque converter clutch, water pump, idler pully, fuel injector, coil, vacuum sensor, air intake sensor, knock sensor, PCV valve, plugs and wires, and probably a few others I can't recall all addressed at one point or another. Continues to stall (often at shift changes, and at any speed from start up to 40 MPH), revs in park and at a stops, hesitates, hard/ delayed shifting, and doesn't like wet conditions. Am at a loss for a solution at this point and vehicle is just danged dangerous to drive as it stalls at the most inopportune times!!

View 4 RepliesMy moms 2010 Camry SE with 21k miles is having a problem where the blue lights around the radio go out and come back on, but when they do come back on, they flicker. What could be the problem? I have the exact same car with the same exact options as hers with the vacuum fluorescent display (same as hers) and never had a problem. What could it be? It's been out of warranty for two months now and so it will be out of pocket.
View 2 RepliesMy 2010 f150 with non sync non sony radio w sat cd. Its been losing power this past year. It would just cut out than come back on. The settings would be reset, but not lose station presets. The other day it got stuck on the f150 logo on the display. No radio or other function would work. Pushed power button and nothing. Started an hour later it worked normally. I do have aftermarket amps, but their direct to battery.

I believe I seen the dash also do a system check. I also think I felt the power steering turn on and off for a split second. very odd. I almost feel the entire car shut down for a split second.

For instance, when creeping up to a stop light in second gear vice first. Why is this happening? How can I prevent the radio from continuing to do this. In the past I had a Hyundai Elantra, Ford Escort, and a Dodge Colt, all had a manual transmission and none had issues with the radio shorting out.

I am fortunate that Seattle has great local radio stations but have had to listen to BS satellite radio or my IPhone. I tried to follow the useless manual instructions to no avail. How to shut it off and enable real radio stations?
Also I am wondering what upgrades people have done on their stereo systems? The system sounds OK but having worked in a car stereo shop in the past I am a bit picky. What brand the stock speakers are and what brand and size aftermarket can be installed without weilding a nibbler or jig saw? Does the stock radio have RCA or other low power outputs to run an external Amp?
I got a OEM GPS,TV,DVD,BLUETOOTH, iPod controller ALL-IN-ONE device and donot know how to install. My car is 07 passat and I read a thread showing 2006 Passat Radio Removal Write-Up... If I wanna go further, what else I have to remove so that I can do more wiring jobs.
