Dodge - Caravan :: 2007 - Intermittent Vibration Which Feels Similar To Driving Over Rumble Bars
Apr 16, 2016
Our 2007 Grand Caravan with a 3.3 Liter Engine has intermittent vibration which feels similar to driving over rumble bars. It usually occurs between 30-50 mph but sometimes at 70-80 mph as well. Have had the suspension checked and had outer tie rod end replaced. Also had sway bar bushings replaced and front end aligned. We then brought it to transmission shop and had a transmission diagnostic performed. They found no faults with the transmission and thought the engine needed a tune-up which we did with no success. At a recent oil change, we asked for them to test drive it and check again for any suspension problems. They did not notice any vibration during the test drive and found no problems with the suspension.

I have a 2000 f150 lariat. Mo problem started about 2 weeks ago. Around town its fine but when I go over 50 mph it feels like I'm driving down the rumble strips on the highway and after a couple miles it just smooths out and its fine! Yesterday I went on the interstate and it did the same but this time I ran up to 85 and the vibration stopped.
I had another motor put in about 2 months ago, #4, and he changed my rear u joint as well. I replaced the rear passenger side wheel bearing a couple months ago but there seemed like a little play in the axle still but not bad. I've been to the dealer and a few other mechanics but it doesn't do it all the time and they couldn't find what is wrong.

I have a 02 durango. Yesterday once i was accelerating over 30 it started feeling like i was driving over rumble strips a little. It felt like it was towards the back. I drove 15 miles to the store and back. On the way home it died down and went away. Today I started driving to town and it is doing it at all speeds. The vibration doesn't seem to change with speed but is much more intense. Only happens when I give it gas. I have searched many forums and not sure where to start? I've read everything from torque converter to solonoids to u-joints, axle bearings, engine problems, or a bad differential.

2007 Grand Caravan 3.8L 100K mi. New noise chirp-chirp-chirp Sometimes an intermittent rumble at idle seems to be in synch with the serpentine belt especially when the A/C is engaged. I changed the serpentine belt which did not look bad and did not emit the noise. Noise seems strongest at the alternator when I use a stethescope. I noticed the pulley seems a little loose with the belt removed, but the bolt is tight. This alternator has an overrunning alternator decoupler (OAD) pulley so maybe the loosness is normal. The bearings seem smooth when I spin it with the belt off, and it charges fine. Just the noise is bothersome. Do I need to change out the alternator or just the OAD pulley?

I have a 2001 T&C, 3.3L, 4-Speed tranny and around 116K Miles. On occasion, I totally lose power steering for about a second or two. It acts like the engine has stalled and I have to muscle the steering wheel. There no belt squealing, no pump noise, and the serpentine belt is relatively new. PS Fluid level is good. It seems to happen at idle RPM.
Of all the caravans I've had, this is a first.
Now, I'm OK with it as long as I don't let anyone else drive it. I know what to expect, and I can muscle the steering when necessary. Once this happened to my on a highway offramp and I was able to control it with no problems. I suspect it is a problem with the rack, maybe?
My question is this: Is this an indication of something going terribly bad, like the total loss of steering control?

I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan. The blinkers have stopped working...sometimes. Sometimes I put the right blinker on and the left starts blinking, sometimes both left and right work normally, but most of the time neither work. The hazards work all of the time. What I should do, or where to begin.

On Sunday, I was driving on the highway and noticed an intermittent hum/rumble which seemed like it was coming from the front of the car. At first, I thought it was due to the road quality where you encounter cuts/cracks in the road which could cause similar hum/rumble. The condition of the road changed over to a brand new smooth surface for several miles. I noticed that the same hum/rumble was still there.
I'm not sure how else to describe this?... The tires would go through several rotations before each hum/rumble. For example, x = tire rotations and y = hum/rumble.
xxx y xxx y xxx y xxx y ...very similar to driving on rumble strips that have been placed on the road.
When I got off the highway I also noticed that this hum/rumble would occur during regular driving speeds.
I checked tire pressure all around and all was fine. Took a quick peek underneath and could not spot anything out of the ordinary.

2001 Dodge Stratus R/T, 5 speed manual - under load, it feels like I'm driving over warning strips in the road, and stops when I coast. The CVJ's feel and look OK. So do the wheel bearings. Could it be something in the final drive? It happens in all the gears.

Problem: Vibration together with a noise that sounds abrasive and destructive. Mechanics have failed me.
It feels like driving over the intense short rumble strips that are meant to tell you when a wheel is outside the traffic lane. I feel and hear it in any gear, whether I am moving or not, but hardly at all in Park or Neutral, and hardly at all when cruising at high speeds. It is worst on the first drive of the day - much less on subsequent drives, even if the engine has been allowed to cool fully.
History: When this began, less than 600 miles ago, I had the transmission checked, where I had warranty coverage.
Found: No transmission trouble but a broken engine mount.
I had the engine mount replaced (and two gaskets replaced because they had started to leak), together with Virginia's mandated annual inspection - passed.
Vibration lessened but continued and started to worsen. Within 3 days the engine stalled in traffic and THE NEXT DAY the "check engine" light came on. I went back to the same place. The ignition coil and spark plugs were replaced. Power returned, and no stalling or warning light, but the vibration persisted.
One mechanic baffled: "What do you expect with 101K mileage and 16 valves?" - But this came up too fast to be ordinary wear and tear. What should I do?
2.0L Zetec E engine.

I have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan and while I was driving it stopped on me. It will turn on but once you put it in gear it will turn off and wont turn back on. I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump.

I have an intermittent brake noise, which sounds like rubber rubbing against rubber. There is no discernable effect on the brakes, pulling, etc. My mechanic can find noting wrong with the brakes.

My 2005 Infiniti G35 has 144,000 miles, two new rear tires and two good front tires. Sometimes, and I cannot nail down or reproduce-on-demand this situation, my car will suddenly begin to vibrate as if I'm driving over a smaller version of those rumble strips on the side of the road. The vibration continues when I take my foot off the accelerator, and will continue at a slower rate as I decelerate until I stop. Often it seems that when I come to a dead stop and accelerate again, the vibration stops, but other times it will continue as I accelerate.
But what's really odd is other times I'll just be cruising along and the vibration will begin, keep vibrating for a few miles, then peter out and disappear. I haven't totally nailed down whether or not braking affects it, but if pressed I would say that I would use the brakes at least once before it disappears. Also, it only seems to begin once I hit 50-60 mph, but again, it doesn't happen every time I go this speed. Other times this car drives incredible and makes the road feel as smooth as glass.
I haven't taken it to the shop because I'm sure they won't be able to reproduce it.

recently acquired an 07 mercury metallic with 118000 one owner and about 8 pages of maintenance all done at Lexus. car is in fantastic shape new tires, and brakes the interior still looks and feels brand new, to date I have changed the oil full synthetic 0W 20, eng and cabin air filters Toyota serviced the transmission changed the plugs with OEM off ebay. Rotated tires, rear diff fluid i couldnt find 75 / 85 anywhere so it wasn't too expensive from Toyota. the front left low beam was flickering so I replaced them I followed cucusdad instructions and it went as he mentioned about an hour per side, although I did take the opportunity to clean the inner fender well and the inside of the tires and rims.T hrough the years we have owned countless cars a couple of brand new ones although this is the first Lexus, I am very handy in the garage and have an understanding of electronics and maintenance upon reading this forum I think folks perhaps want perfect that's impossible as for mentioned this vehicle has been well maintained and obviously personally cared for.
: passanger seat heater/cool inop no light, (wifes only complaint, believe me that's saying a lot)
: aux audio input has intermediate static
: passanger rear door puddle light inop.
: slightly yellowed headlights.
: occasional vibration feels to be from front left while braking although mostly tracks straight ahead
: a very quiet car although I have read and may someday entertain some wind noise application on the triangle piece
None of these anywhere unreasonable on any car with similar miles and production date regardless the manufacture

'98 Dodge Caravan occasionally loses power and dies while driving. No power steering or brakes. Have changed alternator, battery, starter, computer, and starter switch. What else could it be?

I have a 2007 CRDi Santa Fe with 135k on the clock. Regularly serviced however in the past year we've heard a rumble / vibration coming from the vehicle.
Location feels / sounds underneath driver / front passenger footwells and only occurs on strenuous acceleration i.e off a round about going up hill. It doesn't occur at any other time.
It's been in and out of the Dealership but they haven't been able to replicate the problem.
Just recently I went to overtake another vehicle at around 100kmh when I lost all drive to the wheels. The engine was running normally, there were no warning lights on the dash but no matter how hard I pressed the accelerator i had no forward drive other than coasting.
I wondered if the exhaust was loose or an exhaust or other supporting bracket had failed but as previously mentioned the Dealership can't find the problem?

I have a 2003 dodge grand caravan with about 111,000 miles on it. Overall it has been a reliable car. In the past month we had to replace the ECM because the computer died on the car. Now, very intermittently, while driving at about 60 mph the car will suddenly drop to 40 mph then shoot right back to where it was at 60. This only happens for about a second and then its fine.
Its quite startling but it has only happened to us 3 times in the past two weeks, so its very hard to replicate. There are no engine codes and it seems like the tachometer does not change during this sudden drop, although to be honest I wasn't paying that close attention to it when it happened.
Could it be related to the recent ECM replacement? The dealer "reprogrammed" the computer so I'm assuming all parts electrically have been checked.

My 2003 Dodge Caravan is shutting off while I am driving, starts up ok but goes a little and then shuts off, has to cool down all day and night to go about three miles, got a diagnostics done and it says I need an engine wiring harness and controller. My question is, is there a curtain part of the harness or wiring that could be bad that causes it to shut off, and what part would that be, can it be repaired instead of replacing the whole harness and wires?

When I drive on the highway usually between 60-70mph there is a noticeable vibration similar to when a wheel is off balance. I just mounted a new set of wheels (with tires) which were just balanced and it still does it. I had the dealer do an inspection of the suspension while it was in for the recall but they found nothing unusual.
Could this be a strut bearing that went bad? Over a year ago I did hit a very big pothole that bent one of my aftermarket wheels, I had an alignment done afterwards too. However, I first noticed the vibration about 2 months ago while the stock 18" wheels were on.

I have a '99 Frontier (3.3L V6) just had the radiator, hoses, fan clutch and 3 exterior belts replaced. Car's not overheating anymore, BUT, now I hear intermittently a "clack" (which sounds similar to a loud compressor when it shuts on and off). Car never made this sound before the repairs mentioned above were made.
I took pictures and could use finding out what the part is called that is making the noise. I see the 3 discs on the front side of one of the belt pulleys (i think?) spinning, then they will stop, making the clack sound. It seems to me that sometimes the sound is loud and then other times it is extra loud --are there two sets of these discs and the other set is somewhere I can't see?

I have a '98 Ranger 4.0L SuperCab 4x4 Automatic
The other day i was driving, around 40 MPH and suddenly the truck felt like I hit rumble strips on the highway, I hit the brakes and when the truck got down to about 10-15 MPH, it went away. It didn't feel like an out of balance tire or anything like that. It felt exactly like I hit rumble strips. It was a strong, high frequency vibration. I then continued on my way, and it was fine for a little while, still doing 40 mph, then suddenly out of nowhere the same vibration came back. Once again, I slowed back down, it went away and stayed gone even when I sped back up.
Both front hub bearings are less than a year old, and a quick check of the driveshaft seemed to indicate the u-joints are still tight. Front diff/driveshaft turns freely and smoothly and the front hubs are not locked.
'm going to try and jack the truck up and check everything thoroughly, but I'm really at a loss here, as I've never experienced anything like this before in any vehicle. Some reading suggests that it might be transmission related to the 5R55, but I'm really unsure.

My 2007 Dodge Caravan has only one working headlight, the passenger side does not work on high or low beams.
At this time I'm wondering if the problem is in the headlight plug itself, because there are no other complications other than the passenger side not working.
The light did work at first on high beams but now not at all. replacing bulbs makes no difference. There is some brown discoloring on the white strip on the plug face, nothing like this on the driver side.
Also hoping that the problem is not the relay or front control module.
