View 2 RepliesI just washed my corolla today and I noticed a long black sticky piece of sealant laying on my windshield. So I looked around the edges of my rear windshield and to my surprised there were couple of cracks on the sealant. Not just cracked seal but also an inch to 3 inches of sealant are gone.

When it is cold out or wet my serpentine belt squeals a lot or a couple of minutes. It had progressively gotten worse this past winter. The shop said the belt looks fine and Toyota wants me to pay for them to look at it...

View 2 RepliesI have a 2010 Corolla (purchased December of '09) and just recently the radio has started acting up. Since it got cold last year, it seems after long periods with the heater on, the radio unit display will go haywire. Today, the display did the same thing after my car sat in the sun for a couple of hours (and it was pretty warm inside). Obviously it doesn't make any sense to me, but I thought the display was trying to tell me that it's "too hot" Buttons on the unit will intermittently malfunction as well.
For example, hitting "2" will turn the unit off, pressing another preset number will switch the radio from FM to AM. Keeping the unit off while driving doesn't seem to fix the issue - but it does correct itself after a while.
Where does one find the air filter in an '09 corolla? I bought a replacement filter from Autozone per their parts book and it does not fit the filter behind the glove box, so I'm thinking it's for the external intake. Where to find this? I can't find useful information in the user's manual...
View 14 RepliesI replaced the PCV valve (with OEM). The old one looked dirty, but still rattled when I shake it. However, now with the engine at idle, I can hear a metallic clicking coming from the area of the new PCV valve. It's difficult to verify, because it's behind the intake manifold, but since I just replaced the PCV valve, what else could it be? The clicking also seems to sync up with the engine cycling..
My corolla has been burning 2 quarts of oil every 5000 miles since 80k miles. It's at 100k now. I guess worst case is there's a broken valve seal and I'm getting high pressure in the crank case. I also heard it could be a vacuum leak. I'm going to try and check the vacuum pressure, but is there anything else that I should be looking for?
I rigged a gauge from a brake bleeder pump into a tee in the vacuum booster line and it ran pretty steady at 20Hg. Accelerated a little and it hit 25Hg and came back down. It flutters a little at around 1 Hg, but I'm wondering if my vacuum rig is a bit leaky itself.

I bought a brand new Toyota Corolla LE, took it for a ride, then went jogging and while jogging I lost one of the master keys. Now, I got me a replacement key/fob and I have been able to program the buttons to lock/unlock the car , however, I have not had any success programming the chip to start the, local dealer here in the Bay Area want a lot of money that I currently don't have.

View 1 RepliesI, like many, have had issues with my aux jack and decided to have it replaced with an aftermarket device. My aftermarket device plugs into the rear of the radio in place of the OEM aux harness. After removed the old OEM aux harness and installed the new one and put everything back together i had a problem.
The new AUX also comes with a USB slot as well and it all works properly, thats not the issue.
The issue is that my keyless remote has intermittently stopped working. I got out to lock the doors with the remote and nothing happened. I had no time to fiddle with it so i locked the doors via the keyhole and left it. The next time to went to my car, i tried to use the keyless and voila it worked! it locked AND unlocked. I was releived that it worked. Unfortunately once i drove and parked and tried to lock again - it didnt work . Needless to say it doesn't always work, ususally if i lock the doors with the key and come back more then 30 minutes, it unlocks keylessly.
The remote LED light turns on when i press any of the buttons so i know the battery is fine. I already opened the remote and confirmed the contacts are working properly. The only thing i haven't tried to do is reprogram the keyless remote (which i dont think is necessary).
Random symptoms - there are 3 circular dials (fan control, fan speed, temperature control) in the centre console. Originally ONLY the center dials LED lights would turn on. Now randomly the 3rd dials LED lights turn on again. I wanna start checking fuses but would like to know where to start.
Recently blew the belt that runs the water pump, etc while on a vacation. Had to leave the car at a small mechanic in Winthrop, WA. He replaced the Water pump which had gone bad and the belt that shredded. The car ran beautifully for a week. Now there is this constant rattling sound coming from the water pump area. the link is a video with the sound. The sound will quicken as you accelerate. At cold start up it is usually not present then starts a couple of minutes in.

Every time we get a hard rain, I end up with water on my carpet right at the rear of my Excursion. I'm thinking the weather-stripping has broken down. What is the source for it? All I can find is door weather-stripping.

I've noticed the wind noise before but had never taken a drive more than 30 minutes.I just took my first 300 mile road trip and REALLY noticed the EXCESSIVE wind noise.
I traded a 2010 GTI and its weather stripping was more full and produced a much better closed door seal and I never once had problems with wind noise in the 2 years that I owned.
I have a Matrix XR 2010 with front bumper sporty look . I like to change the front bumper to regular bumper and the reason is that for the last two winter seasons I have broken the spoilers and basically wreck the bumper.

If the car sits out 8 hours or more in VERY COLD (zero degrees) weather makes a 1-2 second clashing/sparking noise the split second after turning the ignition on but before engine starts. I tried to attach video/audio. The car starts and runs fine. isn't a ticking or knocking or tapping noise assoc. with bad engine. It isn't squealing noise assoc. w/ serpentine belt. I've been waiting for it to get cold enough to leave overnight at Toyota dealer. I keep wondering if it isn't related to the botched oil changed at the Toyota dealer a couple yrs ago when they forgot the oil & I ran car about 30-60 seconds. At the time, they said all was okay and did compression test (Cyl 1=178psi, #2=175 #3=180 #4=178) all within the normal specs 145-189. I got a 2nd opinion at another Toyota dealer at time who removed valve cover and inspected cam caps and scoped cylinder walls and said all was okay and compression good. No mechanical problems- uses no oil, check engine light not on, etc. What noise is and why just when very cold and car sits out long time?

View 1 RepliesSo I want to disable the ABS on my Corolla. I was wondering if I could pull the fuse in my bonnet to disable the ABS and if I were to do so which fuse would I pull.
I think if I were to pull the fuse from the interior, the other car features that are tied into the fuse wouldn't work.
If I can't pull the fuse in the bonnet, what are the other ways I could disable ABS? I read that removing the relay is an option.
Also is there anything I should know if I were to reactivate ABS? For instance, would the ABS light be off when I presumably reactivate it or do I need to perform some extra steps to remove the ABS light?
