when I'm slowly accelerating from a stop there's a repetitive metallic ticking sound from 1st-2nd gear and it goes away after it changes to 3rd. I drive an automatic with 15k miles btw. It comes and goes but when I have a heavy foot off the line, the ticking goes away.
View 14 RepliesWell this week, everytime I was backing up, hit a pothole or sometimes when I turn either left or right or hit the brakes a clunky or sometimes metallic sound appears coming from the back the undercarriage.
First I thought may be one of the bars (TRD or the Ultraracing sway bars) were loose, we lift, checked the car with the guy who installed the bars and all of them were tight ,nothing loose, we discovered on the front is time to change the bushings of the front stabilizer bar and also the rods who run parallel to the shocks absorbers but we couldn't mimic the sound the shocks are fine.
Tonight my daughter was driving the vehicle so I have a chance to hear the clunky noise, which I think is coming directly from the inside of the drums the sounds intensified at the time of hitting the brakes but is not all the time you hit the brake when it happened.
Also I can't explained why I heard the sound when I turn left or right and still coming from the back, doesn't make sense I can't find no relation whatsoever

I have an 09 matrix 1.8 130k mi. developed a ticking in the top end, after an oil change it went away and came back 1.5k later, pulled the eng oil filter and found some fine metal, my question is does this eng have ocv filters for the ocv solenoids ? if so where ?

View 4 RepliesI have a 2009 Toyota Corolla and it's making a loud grinding metallic noise on the front left side. It does it while I drive the faster I go the louder it gets. When I turn to the left it makes it louder, when I turn right the noise decreases. PG&E have been breaking the roads by where I live and there's a lot of little rocks I drive thru. I'm wondering if that's the problem?? What do I do?
View 4 RepliesJust recently purchased a 2013 Toyota Corolla LE. It has just under 500 miles as of today, and I was planning on changing the oil within the next week.
However, on my way home I noticed an almost ticking noise coming from the engine bay whenever I would accelerate. There wasn't a loss of power, but with the radio off and air off as well you could clearly hear it.
I have a 2009 Corolla and anytime the car is idling and it drops below 1000 RPMS there is an extremely annoying ticking sound, it goes away when I put it in Neutral or the AC is on because it idles higher.
View 7 RepliesI just took my wifes 2013 S to the dealer over a very loud ticking noise that I suspected was the fuel injectors. It ticks at all speeds, idle, etc. The dealer called and said that it was a completely normal sound. I have an identical model except it's a 2012 and it makes absolutely no noise. Her car has only 5000 miles on it. I was wondering if this is a common problem or if the sound truly is normal. This wouldn't be the first time that a stealership has given me the run around.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2011 Toyota Corolla S 5 speed manual and after 15000 miles I noticed a ticking noise in my engine bay and goes away once I push down on the clutch, but once I get off the clutch the noise comes back. Is this a normal thing or should I be concern? I have 75000 miles on my car now, is it covered through the extended manufacturer warranty coverage of 120000 miles?
View 4 RepliesHave a 2010 Corolla, 42k miles, from a dead stop, turn left under power with wheel about 90% of one full turn, get a clunking popping clicking noise from the front end -- I cannot tell if from the left or right side -- I've been in the back seat too, and cannot determine if the noise is coming from the left or right side up front. I've had the car since 34k miles, has been making this sound ever since, not sure if its gotten worse, if it has, maybe just a little.
No noise if turning while NOT under power (coasting). No noise if turning to the right. No noise while driving in a straight line or veering left at a higher speed. Also, I tried to recreate this noise from a dead stop, turning going in reverse, both left and right, and no noise ever.
If in a parking lot, from a dead start, turn wheel left almost one full turn, accelerating slowly I can get the car to make this sound continuously (until I start going too fast beyond my comfort zone).
Have looked under car jacked up several times, nothing obvious. CV axles have minimal play and the boots are in great shape. Suspension parts appear ok.
My gut tells me could be a CV axle, but not certain, and I don't know which side..... something else that could cause this ?
So this phenomenon only happens when I try to rapidly open my throttle but what happens is that I feel a huge bucking in the rear while I'm accelerating.
This bucking makes a loud thud noise and I was wondering if this is normal considering the circumstances under which this occurs.
If I can guess what's happening I think my engine doesn't have enough air and when I rapidly push down the accelerator I'm trying to force in air and fuel and the result is a rapid combustion which causes the bucking effect that I'm experiencing.
I bought my 2010 Corolla 5 years ago with 17,000 miles on it. Since then I've put on about another 46,000. With 63,000 miles it needs it's 4th set of rotors due to brake pulse and shudder. We live in the prairie and I'm not hard on brakes. The brakes have never felt like my 05 Corolla.
Can this be caused by too aggressive of brake pads?
My 2009 corolla recently started producing a brief metallic sound (less than a second) when i start in a cold morning. I noticed that when I warm up my battery (by starting the heat ventilator or other electrical equipment) for 10-20 seconds the car starts normally. The other thing I noticed that I have some white powder deposits on the top of my battery. There is no any other changes in the way my car runs.

The new problem now is that I hear a ticking sound while driving as if something is touching.. The Technician at Toyota said there was still 70% on the pads and 80% left on the rear shoes.. Encountered a ticking sound while driving along?
My son's 2010 Toyota Corolla S made a "rattling ticking sound at idle" twice this week.
I can't duplicate it, the oil level is fine and everything is working.
So yesterday i just noticed a ticking sound (drivers side, almost sounds like its coming from from under my drivers seat underneath the car) when i make sharper turns, but it wont tick when i make regular turns or go around corners.
I lowered my car about 5 or 6 months ago on Tein S Tech 9th gen springs, could that have caused whatever this ticking sound is to start ?

I have 2009 Corolla XRS 5 speed automatic. I have 10,500 miles on it and I have had this transmission issue since I got the car. At times, while accelerating onto highways the car does not downshift. The car stays in 3rd gear up until 4,000 RPM. I can shift it by putting it in sport mode and shifting manually. It only does it sometimes but it does not seem normal.
Took it for my 1st service visit dealer said no codes came up on the computer and maybe it needed to be broken in. Went for 2nd service dealer told me no codes and no problems. I then wrote a letter to Toyota under the lemon law since it had 2 failed attempts at fixing it. They contacted me and said this may be normal. I do not see how it is normal.
Is it because it is a four cylinder that it has these problems? Usually it shifts correctly but I feel there is a defect but they said the computer would have codes stating problems and it does not.
Wierd thing happened this morning to my 2013 Corolla. Put key into ignition switch and put it to "ACC" but wasn't paying attention and went just past the detent. So then a sound like the radiator fan under hood started. Turned it to "IGN" and it went away.
I can recreate this. If you go to "ACC" and slowly keep turning eventually a relay kicks and the fan (not AC, but a loud noise like radiator fan) comes on. Going to either "ACC" or "IGN" will stop it? This normal?
I own a 2009 superwhite corolla xrs. I've owned the car now for several months . Ever since I got It, I've heard a noise coming from the engine bay . Sounds like a Metallic rattling .seems to do it in the cold and warm weather . I have a feeling that its the water pump . Every time I take it to the dealer it doesn't make the noise. It's makes the noise on a regular basis . Check out the video... ignore the dirty dash low fuel light... I was parked by a gas station i swear.
View 3 RepliesSo ever since I bought my car in April, I hear this noise when I accelerate. It only happens when I first start the car. Its a grinding light noise but you can definitely hear it when you are in the car. I only hear it when after I start the car, go reverse, and right after I step on the gas on drive. Today I took it in for my 10k service and told the Assistant Service Manager about it. We went and took my car for a test drive and now we also hear the noise right after we he start the car then reverse.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2009 Corolla with 67k on the odometer so it is outside of warranty. I recently found about the TSB for the grinding noise on start up and took the car to my mechanic to have it looked at. He said he wasn't able to do the job because he would have to do some sort of computer update (ECU reflash?) and he doesn't have the means.
My car is currently at the dealership, and they want around 1800 dollars, 1400 for the VVTI gear, and another 400 for a tensioner. I have a friend who used to be a Toyota mechanic, and he says he can do the work as stated in the TSB, but he's unsure if the ECU would need updating, and it does not mention anything in the TSB. So what I am wondering is if :
1. Does changing the VVTI gear actually fix the grinding noise? I was reading an old thread where members said it was still there after having the TSB done.
2. Does there need to be anything done to the ECU after doing the TSB?
