View 2 RepliesMy wife's Corolla has 71k on it. She recently had tires put on, and now she has a shimmy from about 30mph on up. It seems worst at 60-65. In all of my years, this is a classic example of a tire(s) out of balance.
I've taken it back to the shop that replaced the tires twice to make sure they're balanced, and then took it to a second shop to be certain that the first shop was on the up and up and actually balanced the tires. Everything checks out as being balanced.
Another possible cause could be a bad/worn out axle. The whole front suspension was rebuilt 9,000 miles ago. Everything checks out and there are no leaks anywhere. So that rules that this as well.
What else could it be? Is it possible that one (or more) of the new tires are out of round? Maybe a bent rim? But is seems awfully coincidental that this only started happening after the tires were replaced. What might be the cause of this mystery shimmy?
So what is the deal with this whole steering wheel vibrating over 70mph? I have new balanced tires and the alignment has been done already. The steering wheel has a very annoying mild shake over 70mph on the highway. When I went back to the tire shop I saw the guy rebalance all 4 tires correctly. They told me to look into getting all alignment done. The car has 123,000 miles and had the 2 front struts replaced at 83,000 miles.
View 6 RepliesI saw some pics of MPG calculator right on top of the steering wheel column. It was black and believe it displayed 2 sets of numbers.
View 5 RepliesI've got a 2009 Corolla LE. Everything is factory, no remote start, alarm or rust module.. It is equipped with smart start and has about 73000km on the vehicle.
The beep is rather loud, louder than seatbelt and seems to be coming from dash near the steering wheel. I have disconnected the battery hoping to reset something but the darn thing keeps beeping every 30 seconds even while it's disconnected!
Strangely enough I haven't found much on this it must be a very uncommon problem.
I have a 2009 Corolla LE. I've had these issues since buying the car last year. Issue #1 : when initially accelerating from a stop through 1st and 2nd gears, there's a slight vibration felt through the steering wheel and vehicle. If it's just a gentle acceleration it typically doesn't aggravate the issue as much as a quicker acceleration. Issue #2 : This car is very sensitive to varying types of road conditions. One patch of road can seem smooth as silk. Then another patch will feel rough and bumpy. The road appears to have no bumps or imperfections. I just put brand new tires on the other day, and its still doing this. And I feel all of the road imperfections the most through the steering wheel. I'll briefly take my hands off the steering wheel to see if I feel it in the cabin, and its not as bad as it is through the steering wheel.
View 9 RepliesAs the title says, the leather on my 2010 S steering wheel is flaking and peeling. There was a bad spot in the leather of the original wheel at the 12 o'clock position when I took delivery. The dealership replaced it and now the new wheel is doing the exact same thing in a different spot. It is from the 7 to 9 o'clock position. Nothing rubs in this area, I do not put my hand in this area, I don't wear anything sharp on my hands like rings and there is no way my skin is rough enough to shred leather so I am assuming it is some sort of defect in the material.
View 11 RepliesI have 2010 Corolla S with manual transmission and ever since I bought this car I've been having issues with it's steering especially on the highway between 60-70 mph when the behavior is the worst.
The car is really hard to keep inline and even though I try to keep the steering wheel centered the car just bounces around the lane from left to right. I'm sure most of you know what I'm referring to.Now, I involved my dealer into this problem few months ago and the service manager (when I pressed him during the test drive) kind of admitted that he knows what I mean but he can't do anything about it until Toyota Corporate issues an official fix to it.
Surprise surprise, I just found TSB-014010 (URL...) last week online which seems to be the fix I'm looking for and based on the comments on this forum and edmunds.com it seems to either fix completely or mostly fix the issue for the people who had it done already.
However when trying to show this TSB to my dealer's service (the same service manager as before) and schedule the appoitment I notice that they are very defensive about it and try to dismiss my claims with statements like: "they all drive like that" or "it may be tire preasure" or "based on the description that you gave us and the TSB it's not the same issue" .
I'm trying to remove the airbag so I can get to the steering wheel lights to change them. I took the covers off of each side of the steering wheel, expecting to find T30 torx screws to take off so that I can remove the airbag, but there seem to be no screws at all holding it in! Am I missing something here? Will have pictures in a couple minutes.
Not sure why my pictures aren't working, here are the links :

The song/radio station will automatically switch on its own randomly without my intervention.
I emailed the company, and they said to have me ground the unit to the chassis (had it grounded to same ground as aftermarket Kenwood radio), which I grounded it to the factory radio bracket screw (didn't change anything). I am using the 8011 Metra harness, which they said works for 2011 Corollas.
They suggested using the harness that comes with the unit (which you would need to splice into factory wires to do, messy, undesirable, did not do).
So far, what I've done was replace JUST the control unit with a new one, and now it is less frequently switching (1-3times every other 45min car ride, as opposed to 1-3times each car ride). So the frequency is much, much less, but still occurring.
The company suggests trying to replace the harness with another 70-8114 harness (have not done).
What else could be the cause? I was thinking about putting aluminum foil over the unit to stop interference. .
Looking at a 2011 Toyota corolla, noticed that it has a new steering wheel with a flat bottom. Was just wondering what the flat bottom does? is it just for looks or does it have a purpose?
View 14 RepliesWe added a 2011 Cor LE auto tranny to our 2005 LE.....like it a lot but for one issue. I didn't notice it test driving it (I was far more worried about the pedal locations and the electronic steering) but now I feel it a lot more.
Around 2900-3100rpm there is a buzzing feeling through the pedals/steering wheel. You notice it a lot more going up hills. The dealer noticed it too and is contacting "TAS" to see what they think.
What I'm wondering is if this is just a normal engine harmonic deal and it is what it is? I test drove other models (Civic,Focus,Elantra) and I didn't notice them having it.
I just got a 2013 Corolla Saturday (manual transmission). So far, I love the car, but I think I'm having a problem with the steering column. When I turn the steering wheel in a parked position, I can hear an audible "rubbing" noise coming from the column. I called the dealership, and spoke not only to the service department, but also to my salesman, who has one too. He says he's never heard that, and the service department assures me it's normal and is because it's an electric motor now instead of a fluid power steering system.
So, do I have reason to be concerned? Experienced this after only 300 or so miles on a new car? We traded a Scion IQ for this Corolla (didn't like the CVT whine in the IQ), and never heard anything like this.
The radio trim/bezels around the center console and down to the shifter tend to be noisy when its hot outside and the car driven over rough roads. How to insulate these radio bezels with felt or some kind of insulation so the noise is dampened? I think any rough road tends to make them creak and the hooks tend to rub against the plastic..
View 5 RepliesHow to remove the plugs on an 09 corolla? I found the plugs, but can't seem to get them out. Plug wrench doesn't fit. There seems to be a metal sleeve in the way. Almost looks like you need to take off the valve cover. Hope not...
View 14 RepliesI need to change my rear brakes on my 2010 Matrix. According to my Haynes repair manual, I first need to loosen the hand brake cable which is found under the center console. My problem is, is that I can't figure out how to remove the center console!!! The instructions in the Haynes repair manual for removal of the center console are for 2008 and earlier Matrix models.

View 3 RepliesI just finished a 2 hour road trip(about 80 miles per an hour) on my 2013 Corolla S. I have realized what it is about the steering that I am having an issue with. Off the highway, the steering is great and I love the steering feel. But on the highway it tightens up and is real firm. I would like it to be more loose and not as firm on the highway. With it super tight on highspeeds, the usual correcting it with a minor left and right requires signifcant more push/pressure from the arm and hand. Also, need it feels more sensitive to degrees. I find myself shifting around trying to find a relaxing spot to steer and apply that much pressure to steering without my arm/hand getting tired.
Is there anything that can be adjusted to make the steering not tighten up at highspeeds and also be so sensitive? Will it lesson over time? I am using the 17" alloy wheels with Goodyear tires.
I have a 2010 Corolla with 32K miles and I hear this humming or low groaning rotational noise that seems to get louder with faster speeds over 40 mph. If I turn to the right above 40MPH around a curve in the road, I hear it a lot louder and it oscillates in and out. What it is? I had it checked at the Toyota dealer and they said there was no issue with the wheel bearing but since the noise is still there today, I think I have to take it back. Is this something I could troubleshoot with the car parked?
View 14 RepliesThe steering in my '12 feels extremely loose, at highway speeds just a minor twitch on the steering wheel sends me right or left.
View 4 RepliesI broke one of my rear studs off today when I was putting my wheel back on. The rest seem okay, but I'm wondering how difficult it is to replace them? Is it as simple as hammering the broken one out and replacing it with a new one? I don't have to take the drum off, right?
