I have a 2009 Corolla (smaller 4 cyl) with auto trans. at 101K miles. I have a whine at hwy speed when the drive line is unloaded. What I mean unloaded is there is no acceleration or deceleration. The whine does not change pitch or level with speed.
View 1 RepliesI just recently had an oil change yesterday to be exact. I have never looked at my RPM when I drive, but at every oil changes the dealer always does the "Multi-point inspections", of which I do not like since the tech may ruin something that's not broken or does not put something back together correctly and may cause problems down the road. Anyways, I usually drive at least 80 on the highway. Yesterday I drove home, and I noticed that around 70-75, the RPM was at 3, and a bit over at 80. I've driven other cars and the RPM is never over 3.

I just financed a 2010 black Toyota corolla S with 36 miles on it from a local dealership after i decided my last car was pretty much a money pit (2001 expedition)...blew the head gaskets, then after that was fixed developed a bad knock...anyhow i just decided i was overdue for a new car. Its a 5 speed manual and at highway speeds (65-70mph) I've noticed the rpms are bit high...like around 3grand. Is that normal? Just seemed really high to me, I really think this car would do great with a 6 speed. Also is the corolla governed? I was on a long stretch of road and i quickly got to 110ish with no sign of a governor kicking in...?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 corolla S with 32.5k on it, so my 3yr/36k warranty is running up in a few months. my car from day one (that I had it, at 17k)has had an annoying rattle in the headliner ahead of the sunroof, near the overhead lights. If I press up, even slightly on the lip of the headliner around the front of the sunroof cutout, it goes away. Dealer thinks its normal and says repairs wouldn't be covered under warranty.
The second is a new one, when I go over a bump in the road at highway speeds, there is a squeak coming from the center of the dashboard, at first I thought it was a strut, but after driving back and forth on the same stretch of road for half an hour, I found it to be coming from somewhere behind the radio. Dealer says, squeaks will happen as a car ages.
Do I need to take it to a new dealer (about an hour away) or can I fix this myself?
My 09 corolla has a whine at around 35-50 mph it does sound like its rpm related. When i let off the throttle it isn't as loud.

I have let my wife drive my car over the last couple months because she has a much farther commute to work and needs the A/C since its a more professional job than mine.
I noticed the other day when I drove it that there was a really loud whine coming from the engine. We're both Master's students, so I'm pretty bent on not going to the stealership for anything. Would this be the belts?

My 09 has a whine that sounds like a old power steering pump whining. Gets louder as you rev the engine.Its not real loud and could live with it but just erks me to have that noise on a 60,000 mile car.Does these new electric motor driven power steering cars actually have power steering fluid ?
View 6 RepliesI have the Bridgestone Turanza EL400 radials on my car and now at 8000 miles I have started hearing a noise that is hard to describe. It sounds like a singing, or medium to high pitched whine (no, it's not the transmission sound others have reported). It occurs anytime I'm above 20 MPH. I can put the car in neutral at 55 and coast and it's still there, so it's not the engine (which is idling while I'm coasting). I can't detect any noise from the engine at all at idle or at speed. I took a dealership technician on a ride and he thinks it sounds like tire noise. I have heard some complaints on one of the tire sites about this brand being noisy after a few thousand miles.
View 9 RepliesSo following my everlasting bad luck with car problems...I've been noticing a very rough idle in my 2010 Corolla. It has 84k miles. It's only occasionally, not even every time that I'm idling. When I am stopped at a red light though, it'll start to shake for a few seconds, and then it kind of sounds like something "cleared" through something and then it idles fine. This will happen a few times until I start to accelerate again. It does not occur when I'm in neutral, and isn't as strong when I'm in park but it is kind of still there.
I've also been noticing a high pitched whine when I am accelerating at a constant speed. It's there when I am speeding up, then it gets worse as I stay at one speed. It does also make a bit of a "bum bumbum" sound (best way I can put it.) I went to an auto shop and they drove it around for a few minutes and said I need two new tires on the front. The tires, appearance wise, are fine though and they agreed to that. I took it to Discount Tire for a second opinion, they said the tires looked fine and wouldn't sell me new ones. They did say that from what I described it sounds like bad wheel bearings. Took it in, filled them up with air and balanced them. The sounds are still there.
After looking at videos, my car doesn't sound the same as ones with bad wheel bearings. It does not make any noise when turning. I would notice, since I JUST had both the front CV axles replaced. I'm not sure if maybe both of these are related at all. I still need to bring my Corolla in to have some sort of cover replaced that is leaking oil (forget what it's called) that I have to pay a $100 deductible on at my Toyota dealership. I'm not very car savvy and hate going into an auto shop, especially as a girl, not knowing what I need exactly.
My mechanic just informed me that because of my extreme drop, the drive shafts are at an angle that is stressing the final drive bearing on the transmission. I am leaking very small amount of fluid, he said it might not be a big deal.

View 12 RepliesI bought a new corolla 2009, automatic transmission (Not Robotic!) From the first day, when shifting from first to second gear the car makes an unnatural noise, like a whistle or a whine. (during shifting and sometimes a little bit before).
It only happens in the transition from first to second. It does not depend on the RPM at the moment. When the engine is cold, in the morning, the sound is still there, but weaker, when the engine warms up, the sound keeps appearing for the rest of the day. (I live in a country with a hot climate)
I have been told, 2009 model has the same transmission just as previous models, is it true? or there have been some changes in it?
I recently purchased a new 2010 Toyota Corolla LE auto and I really like it. I have about 2000 miles on it now and just recently noticed a faint gear whine coming from the transmission at around 60 mph. You can only hear it when the radio is off and you really listen for it during the acceleration. It only does it when transmission fluid is fully warmed up after driving for about 15 miles. 2010 corolla uses U341E transmission that specifies Toyota WS transmission fluid. I noticed that 2001 - 2005 Supra uses the same transmission but it requires T-IV fluid which has more viscosity than WS. Noticed this faint gear whine on this car or do I need to take it to the dealer? My other car 2003 Toyota Echo uses U340E transmission and it has gear whine as well, except it is more pronounced than in Corolla, so I an trying to figure out if this is normal for this transmission or not.
View 10 RepliesI just finished a 2 hour road trip(about 80 miles per an hour) on my 2013 Corolla S. I have realized what it is about the steering that I am having an issue with. Off the highway, the steering is great and I love the steering feel. But on the highway it tightens up and is real firm. I would like it to be more loose and not as firm on the highway. With it super tight on highspeeds, the usual correcting it with a minor left and right requires signifcant more push/pressure from the arm and hand. Also, need it feels more sensitive to degrees. I find myself shifting around trying to find a relaxing spot to steer and apply that much pressure to steering without my arm/hand getting tired.
Is there anything that can be adjusted to make the steering not tighten up at highspeeds and also be so sensitive? Will it lesson over time? I am using the 17" alloy wheels with Goodyear tires.
Shifted accidentally from third to second on highway, revved way up and engine shut off, turns over almost started an hour later but didnt want to try to completely start it. still under warranty so how do I get around the OBD reports and get it covered or am I screwed.

This usually happens when im on the highway i guess because im usually going over 50mph I hear like a loud humming and vibration and if I turn the steering wheel left or right it becomes unbearable, like deafening. What may cause this, im thinking maybe i need an alignment or wheel balancing or just new suspension.
I had a bud of mine make shims and gave me some negative camber in the back, and in the front, I maximized the camber bolt on my bc coils, this is per alignment stage. when I drive, the car feels a lil wobbly, is this normal? and will alignment fix the problem, or is this just part of the lowered/cambered life?
View 1 RepliesIs this behavior normal: I test drove a 2010 corolla LE with 4-spd auto, 41K miles. Noticed that on level highway 60 mph that whenever I eased up on the gas that the RPMs would shoot down. Vehicle speed was barely decelerating since I was on level. As soon as gas reapplied (gently), then the RPMs would shoot up. I'm guessing the delta was like 300 RPM. I get the impression that at highway speeds the car is mostly in 3rd gear or shifting up and down a lot. I've read a lot about a TSB for 2011 corollas but nothing for 2010. And I think that problem is different. So my question is whether this is "normal" for driving at highway speeds?
