Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2012 - Oil Filter Housing Will Not Come Off
Mar 29, 2013
I am trying to change the oil on my dad's 2012 corolla LE, and this is the first oil change since it's been out of the 25k mile service plan. I ordered the exact 64mm 14 flute wrench and the filter housing WILL NOT unscrew. I have looked at several videos online and I am sure I'm going the right way. I have tried kicking it, hitting it with a rubber mallet... and nothing! My friend has a breaker bar we are gonna try to use in a little while... Is there any history of dealerships sabotaging this kind of thing so you have to bring it back?

My GF recently purchased a used 2009 Corolla LE when a yuppie type with a bad texting habit, rear ended and totaled her last ride.
It is a great little car with excellent handling and performance. We also enjoy the 30mpg's and sub $40 fill ups.
I drove it recently and noticed a knobby tire sound coming from the rear of the car. I rotated the tires to see if the noise moved with the tires and it did not (this was to rule out a cupping tire). I suspected a wheel bearing / hub failing and took it to my mechanic buddy to confirm. He agreed with me as there are really no other moving parts back there other than the brake shoes. I had already taken it down the highway and gently applied the parking brake to rule that out. No change when the parking brake was applied at highway speeds.
Found the hub assy at Rock Auto and it took about 30 minutes to replace. It comes complete with an abs sensor. The hub housing was blue from excessive heat so it was about to seize or fail completely which would have been ugly.
the bearing rides is actually blue from excessive heat.....

Where is the Air Filter? How do you access it? 2011 LE

Where does one find the air filter in an '09 corolla? I bought a replacement filter from Autozone per their parts book and it does not fit the filter behind the glove box, so I'm thinking it's for the external intake. Where to find this? I can't find useful information in the user's manual...

Can I replace just the oil filter without draining the oil? The reason is I have changed the oil today, but could not get the oil filter housing off, so when I get the proper tool in a couple of days - can I replace just the filter? I mean, will the oil stay in the sump or will all of it drain through the oil filter housing when I open it?

I have a 2011 Toyota Corolla LE with about 48,000 miles on it. Today I was changing the oil, and when I unscrewed the oil filter some anti-freeze came out of it.
I am not super mechanically inclined so I called a friend who works at a shop (he's not a mechanic) and he said it could be a blown head gasket, but also could be coolant or pipe leak. I still have a powertrain warranty on the car, but I was wondering if this is a normal issue for 2011 Corolla's, or maybe a different problem?

I am having trouble figuring out what a nut on my 2011 Corolla LE is called, so I am having alot of trouble looking up a solution on my own. There is a bolt above the oil filter and near a sensor that is leaking. I marked it in red in the below picture. I am having trouble looking up what to do without knowing enough about it to search.

I was looking to lower my 2012 Corolla after seeing torres 16 running 18x10 all around on his car. I fell in love with his Corolla and have been craving to do something similar. Now here's the flip side. I am absolutely clueless about the in-and-outs of stance work or being "slammed". I was thinking running 18x10 all around is a bit too much and was looking to run 18x9.5 Grids - if I could find them new. I'd like to sit "flush." What offset would be recommended? From what I saw on wheeldude, they only come in +20 or +38. Would this be possible on BC coilovers? I'd like to achieve a look similar to Jzen 16 or torres 16. Would I be better off running an air suspension setup? The downfall is they get ridiculously costly.

I'll be back to post the whole situation if the dealer doesn't make right on what I'm going through right now, but wanted to ask as I didn't find much searching, any issue with a cracked oil filter housing? I took car in for 30k service and came back leaking oil. Apparently part is back ordered and may take weeks. I spoke with ECS tuning and they said they don't have their aluminum filter housing yet for this model.

I now have 500 Miles on my LE. Driven soft Never over 2,500 rpm except, one time I accelerated to 4,500 RPM in first. Short 5 Mile trips.
Engine knock on start-up (Lasts one second)
sounds like a lifter pumping up.
Only happens occasionally.
Happened last night after driving 40 Miles and parking it for two hours.
Is this normal? I have noticed this since the first 10 Miles on the odometer. Figured it was the 0W-20 Oil.
My friend has a 2003 Echo with 100,000 miles and it does not do this.

New owner of a used 2012 corolla. I only have one remote key. After digging through google and ebay. I brought a set of new remote keys with the known warning that I have to take it to the dealer for programming.
What tools to get to have this program by myself. It just cost too much over $150 from dealer just to program a key not counting over $250 dollar for the key itself.

I have a 2012 corolla le and I'm looking into getting TRD lowering springs as I don't want to go too low and they work with the stock strut, however; I read that they work best with the XRS' shock and strut (might be just the strut but I'm not sure), my question is what are the XRS' struts called and where would I find them, also from what year would the XRS' struts fit on my le?

What Model Number Automatic Transmission does the 2012 LE have?
When was the first year they used this transmission?
Has this transmission been used in any other cars?
Does it have the reliability record Toyota is known for, or is it too early to tell?

I have a 2012 Corolla. The key fob locks/unlocks all doors except the drivers door. I've read multiple forums saying its most likely the actuator in the drivers door, but the lock/unlock button on the door itself works just fine. This just seems weird to me. I'm really hoping it's not a complex electrical issue.

I just used ArmorAll cleaning wipes on the dash of my 2012 corolla and as soon as it dried out I noticed black scratches (thin black lines) as if the gray paint came off. I don't know how is possible. Even if the wipes had a problem, I don't think dash paint should get scratched so easily.

I recently bought a 2012 used Corolla LE from a dealer and i've noticed that when I drive at night the lights don't turn on automatically. They daylight running ones are one, but the actual headlights used for night-time use don't come on automatically. I'm able to turn the on automatically by just turning the switch, but I'm just curious why they aren't turning on automatically. I mean they're supposed to right, since its a standard feature nowadays?

2012 Corolla S 5 speed manual. Just bought the car in September. CPO with 19k miles on it when purchased. Now it has 22k miles. The "problem" is as follows:
After driving the car around for some time, meaning fully warmed-up, when I come to a stop at a light the engine's idle speed will slowly drop from about 800 (where it's as smooth as glass and I can't even tell the engine is running) to about 650-600 and there's a noticeable shudder in the wheel and in the whole car. It lasts for a few seconds then the RPM goes back to normal - just as if it's correcting itself. This happens with nothing running except the radio. No fan, no A/C, nothing.
The only thing I could think is that the radiator fan is kicking on and causing the alternator to work harder? Considering this is a manual is it safe to rule out any kind of transmission issue?
I didn't notice it when I test drove the car, and honestly, the car I was driving before made so much racket that this Corolla sounds like a luxury car by comparison.
