Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2011 - Clutch Shudder At 45,000 Miles
May 2, 2013
I got my 2011 S Corolla brand new and it's been great thus far. To make things a little more exciting, I got a manual. The last manual I had was my 2006 325i so it's been a little while.
Over the past few weeks, both my wife and I are experiencing quite a bit of clutch shudder or chatter and are finding it more and more difficult to engage the clutch without completely shaking the car. We've noticed this the longer the car is driven. On cold starts it doesn't happen. I've read some horror stories of the tranny going out, a weak transmission mount, or a warped flywheel in these Corollas. We bought this car because it's supposed to be reliable and get good mileage. Also, I'm still under the powertrain warranty but I'm not sure if they'll cover the clutch.
I have not checked the transmission fluid yet either. I can really use some suggestions. I had a 318is for over 100,000 miles and never put a new clutch in it!!! I'm getting frustrated.

I have a 2011 Toyota Corolla S 5 speed manual and after 15000 miles I noticed a ticking noise in my engine bay and goes away once I push down on the clutch, but once I get off the clutch the noise comes back. Is this a normal thing or should I be concern? I have 75000 miles on my car now, is it covered through the extended manufacturer warranty coverage of 120000 miles?

I have a 2009 with the 2.4L, 130Kmiles. I have engine shudder at idle and upon deceleration only. No check engine light so no codes-ran a hand held scanner no codes. Cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner, pulled the spark plugs/coils and swapped them around- still getting shudder and no check engine light. Only thing I noticed is the spark plugs were dry to very wet with oil going right to left. Car was parked on level ground. I am completely stumped.
Other thing is I just got the car back from the dealers to fix the clock spring airbag recall, and the vsc light popped up on the drive home. I did call them but afraid the car will not make it there and my wallet might go on a severe diet after. Out of warranty and dealer said if it is their doing because they knock something loose while fixing the airbag clock spring there will be no charge otherwise it's 129 just to look.

2010 Corolla 1.8 automatic. Accelerating at highway speed (2800-3200) rpm a low frequency shudder/vibration is felt in the floorboards. Goes away of you let up off of gas pedal. No vibration at idle, runs fine all other times. Most noticeable when accelerating under load (ie going uphill) and at highway speed. Trans mount visually intact. Ditto engine mounts. Cv axles less than 1 year old no rattle upon shaking.

I bought my 2010 Corolla 5 years ago with 17,000 miles on it. Since then I've put on about another 46,000. With 63,000 miles it needs it's 4th set of rotors due to brake pulse and shudder. We live in the prairie and I'm not hard on brakes. The brakes have never felt like my 05 Corolla.
Can this be caused by too aggressive of brake pads?

My 09 matrix is using about 3 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. I bought the car new and it has 114,000 miles on it. I don't notice any smoke or leaks anywhere.

Don't the stock brake pads go for more than 12k miles? The brakes are squeaking when I first pull out of my driveway and after a while it goes away, but at lower speeds (stop and go traffic) they still squeal a little bit, but when I am braking at higher speeds I don't hear anything. about a year ago my friend drove my car with the E-Brake up for about a mile. Could it be that because my rear drums are worn that my front brakes are getting worked more? But when I pull my E-brake up it still works fine without going up too much.

My '09 Corolla (1.8L) still burns about a quart of oil per 2000 miles. This is after the reflash as well.. I am using 5w-20 synthetic at the moment.

2010 LE is having a brake squealing issue. The car only has 35,000 miles and the pads are at about 50% life left. I cleaned everything and lubed everything and they are still squealing. I would hate to have to replace the front brakes this early especially when the pads are only half worn. They are the factory pads and rotors btw.

I have a 2010 corolla le with approx 54k miles. Should I have the trans serviced/flushed? Can I just do a drain and refill? Is it true that replacing the fluid will cause the trans to fail later on?

So my girlfriend got this car (2013 corolla s) a few months ago and we started hearing a funny noise, I thought it was a wheel bearing going but nope its the ouput bearing on the tranny, passenger side. is this common on corrollas? how hard is it to change? I have a tranny from an 06 corolla, are they the same? and could i just swap trannies if changing the bearing is too difficult?

I have a 2011 corolla XRS 5 speed with about 32,000 km's. There is a squeak when i press the clutch down coming from outside the car. I brought in my car for scheduled maintenance and they initially said that the clutch fork would be to be lubricated. I got the car back, thinking all had been taken care of, but noticed next day that it was still squeaking. I went back there for them to tell me. 'oh yeah, we can't lubricate unless we pull off your tranny.' I would have to leave the car there all day and so forth and so forth.
I thought it would have been a simple solution but i am concerned now about them pulling off the tranny and therefore maybe causing some other issues now or later.
I don't hear the squeak when driving usually only when stopped with window open and pressing the clutch.

Have a click when the clutch engages? Manual transmission.
Everytime is release the clutch, I hear the clutch click when it grabs. It's not the pedal that clicks. It's inside the transmission.
It runs fine, and it's been doing it right off the lot. It's not that loud to actually bother me, I'm just wondering if its normal.

I think this is just poor dealer service, but I need a sanity check.
I have 93k miles on my Corolla. My clutch creaks like an old school bus when I engage and disengage. It's done this pretty much all along and I think I had another dealer successfully lube the linkage to quiet it down -- it was miles and years ago so I may be misremembering that.
My current dealer says all they can do for it now is REPLACE THE WHOLE FREAKING CLUTCH assembly to the tune of $1,300. Clearly, I'm not doing this. As long as it works, I ain't replacin' the clutch, but, REALLY?

It was about 7 degrees Fahrenheit and I started my car and it took a few seconds longer to start then normal but I kind of expected that as it was pretty cold.
Then after letting the engine warm up a little bit I went to leave and the clutch pedal was sticking for a second or two between shifts and I still kind of ignored it and drove home, well after a 45 minute drive by my house it was still doing it.
The next day I drove it to the store and after sitting in my garage for a while it was fine. A few days later, (well last night) I went on a break to get some food and it did the same thing when I left to do that but after it was warmed up to normal operating temperatures it was fine again. When I first started it, the temp was 13 degrees.
I am trying to figure out if there is something wrong with my car or if all of them do that. I am going to stop by the local dealership on my way home today but if it is normal I don't want to waste my time. I just don't like the fact that I live in Minnesota and the temperature is going to get colder then that. I mean what is it going to do then?

Title should say Throw-out bearing aka Release bearing.
I have a 2010 5 speed Corolla CE. Having problems with their Throw-out bearings. At around 8000 miles the sqeaking/chirping noise of the bearing was too much so I brought in it to the dealer to fix. They agreed and made the repair.
Now it is only at 10000 miles (22000km) and I can hear it starting again. Just wondering if it is a common problem?
Noise comes and goes as the clutch pedal is released. If you push it in it will go away. It also will happen in all gears but easiest to hear in neutral.

I just got a 2011 corolla le with 45k miles and the gas millage is terrible. I have a 2005 acura rsx and I drive about 20 miles a day and I can go a whole month without refilling. I Put in half a tank in our corolla and only got 115 miles out of it. I drive the same way I do in my acura which Is pretty fuel efficient. My car tells me I am getting 27 mpg. But if I calculated correctly (115miles /7 gallons= about 1 8 mpg, my acura will get nearly twice that millage. What do you think I need to do. I've only put 500-1000 miles on it and not sure when the last tune up was. Should I take it to Toyota?

So the grind in 3rd gear is getting pretty bad. I have to put it into third slowly and 4th sometimes grinds a bit. Could it be the slave or master cylinder?

Clear water comes into car my Corolla 2011 on drivers side and both the passenger and drivers rear floor panels. I checked and not coming from the body. Think it's from A/C but it's a lot of water. Front passenger side is bone dry. Looks like it may be coming from the center console and spreading out. Could the A/C evaporator drain be plugged. If so where do I find the hose?

My fiance has a 2011 Corolla LE. A couple years ago this weird smell started coming through her AC vents. It is intermittent happening when the car is parked or in drive. Once the smell comes through the AC the only way to make it stop it to push the AC button so that normal air blows through, turn outside air on, or switch the AC air speed a couple times, or just wait a minute or two. I changed the engine and cabin filter, sprayed the vents and everything else with cleaner and check the drain tube. I don't know what else to do.
