Here is the deal I have an autocross event coming up this weekend, and a 2010 corolla with traction control. How can I disable the traction control for more than just a few seconds? It is strange that when I hit the button after about 15 seconds the traction control comes back on.
View 12 RepliesI've got an 09 XRS. Every time I slide it in a corner the thing beeps to tell me I've slid and the traction control (or whatever they call it) has engaged. I know I can turn it all off but sometimes I don't want to come to a complete stop and sit there holding the button for 5 seconds, I just want to drive and don't really care if I slide around and get "saved" by my car. This morning I was driving in about 6" of fresh pud (heavy snow) on the road and it was driving me nuts. All I really want to do is make it stop beeping, it keeps waking my wife up. Is it possible to shut the damned thing up?

View 2 RepliesJust purchased a 2009 Matrix XRS Manual transmission with 67,000 miles on it. I can't get the VSC Off and Traction lights on the panel to go out.
During our test drive, I had turned the system on and off to make sure it was working, and didn't seem to have any trouble with it.
I went to have it inspected yesterday. During the test, they hook up to the ODBII port to check emissions. The tech had trouble getting it connected the first time, saying the connection was going in and out. Eventually, they were able to get it connected properly and passed the inspection.
After they pulled the car out of the bay, the VSC Off and Traction lights were solid on, and they have been every time I've started the car since. Checking the manual, all I should have to do to turn the system back on is press the traction button, but that doesn't seem to be working at all. I also tried holding it down for 30 seconds or so with no luck.
The lights aren't flashing, so I don't think this is an error, I'm wondering if the computer got confused somehow with the ODBII port issues.
Stuff I've tried:
1. Followed these instructions for the Highlander Hybrid thinking maybe Toyotas will generally do this. That just caused most of the lights to flash on the panel and didn't bring up any VSC diagnostic messages.
2. I pulled the panel from the dash out to check to make sure the button was working, and I do get connectivity between the two outside pins while the button is pushed in.
how to get this to reset, or what the problem might be?
My 2010 S has a wicked knock for a couple seconds at startup when cold. It only does it after it has at for a few hours. What this could be? There's no check engine light coming on.

I installed an aftermarket cruise (Rostra) in my manual 2007 Corolla. Other than cutting the hole for the stalk the only real difficulty was getting my fat hands up under the dash to install the clutch disconnect switch. It certainly didn't involve any wire cutting or messing around with the ECM.
It's a long story, but through a sequence of events I have to opportunity to buy a 2010 base Corolla 5 speed at a pretty good deal. It also doesn't have a cruise control. I went tot eh Rostra website just to make sure cruise units are available and I looked at the installation instructions. Unless I read the wrong sheet, their instructions make it seem like installing cruise on a 2010 involves messing with the ECM wiring harness, moving connectors and a bunch of scary stuff like that.
It seems strange to me that the older car would be "plug and play" but a newer one would need changes to the main wiring harnesses. I'm not talking about a steering wheel mounted system where the clock spring has to be replaced, just a basic cruise.
2013 Prius is there any way to disable the traction control. Trying the push start button 2 times and push gas pedal 2 times etc. method wont work on this year.
View 6 RepliesSo I want to disable the ABS on my Corolla. I was wondering if I could pull the fuse in my bonnet to disable the ABS and if I were to do so which fuse would I pull.
I think if I were to pull the fuse from the interior, the other car features that are tied into the fuse wouldn't work.
If I can't pull the fuse in the bonnet, what are the other ways I could disable ABS? I read that removing the relay is an option.
Also is there anything I should know if I were to reactivate ABS? For instance, would the ABS light be off when I presumably reactivate it or do I need to perform some extra steps to remove the ABS light?
Temp control is stuck, but when it reaches over 55 degrees or so, it goes back to normal. Have a very slight clicking sound/feel when it is normal. Toyota wants 10 hours labor up front.

On my previous Nissan Altima, you can toggle this feature by pressing the lock+unlock simultaneously. I tried that on the Corolla, it does not work.
I have a 2009 corolla with about 125,00. I bought it used about two years ago and it has been trouble free. This morning when I went to start it, about 29F with heavy frost on the windows, it would fire up run for a couple of seconds and cut off. I id this probably 20 times and gave up. I called a neighbor to take me to my bus and thought I would try it one more time. fired right up and stayed running. Also started right up when I tried it later when I got back from work.
View 2 Replieswe bought a Toyota Levin 2013 in December New Zealand. We loved the car and for the first three months it went well. Then the transmission? started playing up. First thing on a clear crisp cold morning ( or that seems to be one trigger) we would move off from stationary and it would start to accelerate and then it loses power and almost comes to a stop ( approx 30 secs) then it would engage and move off. This has happened 5-7 times and is dangerous. It will also do this when hot and going up a hill. Toyota is trying to say this is a characteristic and there is nothing wrong. To me it is dangerous.. I haven't noticed the engine light go on.
View 2 RepliesSo I just bought new wheels, and had them put on. Went from stock 16's to 17's now. After I had them put on there was no issue.
Now after I was driving for about 30 mins, I noticed that the Low Tire Pressure Indicator started flashing for 20-30 seconds, then stayed solid.
And now the indicator has been there ever since. I've tried reinitializing the TPMS but it stlll didn't go away.
2010 Toyota Corolla, 5spd. I was trying to get it up a snowy/icy hill this weekend and, although I succeeded, the car made a very scary noise that I couldn't decipher. Here's what happened:
When the traction control engages, it makes a sound like the ABS engaging. That wasn't the noise that worried me. I was feathering the clutch and trying to massage the car up the slippery incline, and it started making a loud rhythmic banging noise. It sounded like what happens when you're parked and you think the car's off, but it's not, and you take your foot off the clutch. The clutch engages and makes a bang, and the engine stalls. (Not that I've ever done that before.) That's what it sounded like going up the hill, but about twice a second and very steady.
As soon as I heard it, I tried releasing the clutch pedal all the way, I tried feathering the clutch more, I modulated the throttle a bit, but honestly I was 3/4 of the way up the hill after 45 minutes of trying and I didn't want to stop! So I bang-bang-banged twenty feet up the hill or so, then when I stopped at the top the car seemed fine. I've since driven it another 300 miles of city and highway and no issues whatsoever.
Now, I've driven stick for twenty years and dozens of cars and am very comfortable in my own skill. This clutch has always seemed a little screwy since we bought the car, but the dealer mechanic told me (when I mentioned it early on) that it's normal. It's hard to describe why I think it's screwy but it doesn't feel like any other clutch I've driven, new or old. Including, every once in a while, when I'm pulling away from a stop sign in normal (dry) conditions, the clutch will chatter a couple times as I engage it. It's far from a consistent or reproducible problem, and I always wrote it off until this recent episode that sounded/felt similar but much much worse.
Could there be oil on the clutch plates? Could this have something to do with the traction control.
I have the 1.8L engine with automatic transmission and when I start my car, it has a loud grinding sound that lasts about 3-5 seconds. The Initial rpm after you start the car also idles around 1800-2200 rpm for almost 10 seconds before it goes back to 1000rpm.
The high idling also stops if you shift it into Drive (D) or Reverse (R) but in Neutral (N) it will jump back up to the high idle.
This started occuring november of last year. At first I took it to dealership but they could not diagnose it because they never heard the sound. It ONLY happened when it was cold below 30 F, but recently it has been becoming MORE and MORE frequent and now almost happens everytime I start the car. But it won't happen if the outdoor temperature is above 60 degrees or if I start the car shortly after I shut the engine off (like a 2-3 hour break in between).
I thought it might be a loose flywheel, bad torque convertor, or a faulty electronic throttle control system. I do NOT think it is the starter because it starts everytime even on the coldest of days just that the grinding sound is annoying.
Is it would be possible or easy to upgrade the wiper control in the S to the variable int. wipers in some other models? I tried doing a search but I didn't see this subject ever being brought up.
View 14 RepliesI have an 09 Corolla S. Back before winter, my heat control knob got real tight and felt like it broke loose inside one day. This left the heat control stuck in the red somewhere. Its way too expensive to have this fixed at Toyota. I ordered the heat control panel off Ebay, went to replace it yesterday, and it turns out the actual cable must be broke at the other end. When I tried to rewrap the cable around the knob, it has no tension and pops right back off.
My question: where this cable connects to on the car? How hard is it to replace and where do I find one?
how to replace the bulbs in a 2010-2013 Toyota Corolla I am finding older Corollas but not 2013. I did tear apart the dash but it look like they are now a self contained unit.
