My CEL comes on a lot because my gas cap won't stay tightened. I bought this one at Amazon, but it was wrong: [URL]..... It had 2 large tabs, where my cap has a "screw thread". Is there another place I can get an OEM quality cap.
View 2 RepliesMy 2012 corolla has got about 7500 on it, and recently whenever I turn off the A/C, and keep it running on fan, it smells like old socks or really bad B.O. through the vents. Stays like this for about 5 minutes and goes away.
I heard of spraying Lysol through the air intakes, is it the one right below the windshield wipers? I know I should probably take out the cabin air filter and give that a thorough cleaning as well. Is there anything else I should do to eliminate the smell?It's getting to be pretty bad..
My girlfriend's 2001 Toyota Corolla has a recurrent Check Engine light problem. It has 144,000 miles on it. For the last few years, we have been unable to keep the light turned off. We have replaced the oxygen sensors and cleaned the MAF sensor. Our mechanic can't find the problem.
View 3 RepliesThe check engine lamp on my '04 4cyl came on Saturday. I checked the code. It's P0441, which is supposed to be 'Evaporative emission control system incorrect purge.' I found a page on the web that said this might have to do with the gas cap. When I checked the cap it had not been tightened.
I've been driving it for 3 days and the check engine lamp is still on. How long should I expect it to take for it to extinguish? It seems unlikely to the point of incredible the gas cap was left loose (which I've never seen before) and another failure in this very system could have happened simultaneously. Particularly since this is the first time the check engine lamp has come on in 9 years and over 100,000 miles
I own a 1996 Corolla DX with an auto transmission which has a few issues I would like to fix. The biggest issue is that sometimes it stays stuck at high RPMs (somewhere near 3,100) without changing gears which makes me have to give it some extra torque momentarily to change gear and drive at normal RPMs. But sometimes it does the opposite, when slowing down it sometimes stays at a higher gear and won't change to a lower gear until I've slowed down almost to a stop.
Another issue is that it is very slow to accelerate, it just feels real heavy and I regularly have to give it a lot of torque just to be at equal speed with the rest of the cars on the road, does this have a fix? Other than that there isn't any major issue that I actually know about, for this reason I'd like to know what place you would recommend me taking my car to get a full checkup to find any issues I don't know about.
Seems that they tightened the bumper and fender too tight that they're currently rubbing and some paint seems to be chipping.
View 24 RepliesSo i went to do an oil change on my 05 elantra but the oil drain plug is tightened too tight. I tried to unscrew it with my 17mm 6 contact deep socket wrench but no luck. I noticed the edges of the plug starting to get eaten away so i stopped. What do i do now. I was really excited to do my own oil change but i couldnt even get past the 1st step. I dont have access to an inpact wrench but i've been told not to use that anyway with the oil drain plug.

The fellow I purchased it from said the valves need tightened, I thought perhaps a timing chain, but figured valves would be an easier place to start. Yet, I'm not sure where to begin? Or how tight the valves need to be, are there torque specks?
View 2 RepliesWhy does the automatic transmission stay in 3rd gear and not shift into overdrive until it gets warmed up? It is so annoying. This is the only car that has ever done this. Even the camry I don't think does this. Especially the fact that the rpms stay above 1k rpm until the engine is warmed up.
View 7 RepliesFilled up my 2012 Lexus Rx450h in NJ. They don't have self-service there, so I don't blame myself, but gas cap not tightened. Check Engine light is on, I tightened gas cap, light still on. Is there just a fuse I can pull to reset the warning light? There seem to be a few fuses labeled ECU. Exactly which one should I pull ? If I don't, how soon before it will it reset on its own?
View 6 RepliesI just had brakes redone at Nissan on a 2003 Pathfinder. Nissan said that when the last brake job was done (by Firestone), the bearings were overtightened causing "scoring" from friction. Nissan says there is a chance that this may have weakened the metal from repeated heating and cooling over about 40,000 miles.
Nissan said that it's unlikely, but possible, that a break can cause the wheel to fall off while I'm driving. I took it to Firestone who looked at it (see photos attached) and said it's just normal wear for a car with 140,000 miles... nothing to worry about. I'm a bit freaked out about notion that a wheel can fall off while I'm driving.
I had a loose bulb in my overhead interior light I tightened the bulb and now the gauges quit working the sunroof, rear window, air compressor, windows, radio and airbag warning flashes?? I checked the appropriate fuses in the panel fuses and the 30 amp breaker all good??

View 1 RepliesThe other night on my way home, I flipped on the high beams and the low beams didn't shut off. Flash to pass still works, and pushing in on the end of the stem turns the low beams off as well.
Having the column switch apart, is it possible this could be fixed without having to pull the steering wheel? Or, am I better off just spending the hundred dollars of so and putting in a new part?

I was looking to lower my 2012 Corolla after seeing torres 16 running 18x10 all around on his car. I fell in love with his Corolla and have been craving to do something similar. Now here's the flip side. I am absolutely clueless about the in-and-outs of stance work or being "slammed". I was thinking running 18x10 all around is a bit too much and was looking to run 18x9.5 Grids - if I could find them new. I'd like to sit "flush." What offset would be recommended? From what I saw on wheeldude, they only come in +20 or +38. Would this be possible on BC coilovers? I'd like to achieve a look similar to Jzen 16 or torres 16. Would I be better off running an air suspension setup? The downfall is they get ridiculously costly.
View 14 RepliesI am trying to change the oil on my dad's 2012 corolla LE, and this is the first oil change since it's been out of the 25k mile service plan. I ordered the exact 64mm 14 flute wrench and the filter housing WILL NOT unscrew. I have looked at several videos online and I am sure I'm going the right way. I have tried kicking it, hitting it with a rubber mallet... and nothing! My friend has a breaker bar we are gonna try to use in a little while... Is there any history of dealerships sabotaging this kind of thing so you have to bring it back?
