I hve a 89 Chevy Silverado Z71. Transmission will not shift out. It's only a little over a year old. Got it from Advance Auto Parts.

Silverado :: 1996 Will Not Shift Out Of First Gear - 4l60e Transmission

I have a 1996 Silverado and it will not shift out of first gear. I have had the pickup for about 6 months and when I got it, it would shift if I accelerated to about 30 and let off but then I went though some mud and got stuck, I kept shifting from reverse to forward and I got out of the mud and it would not come out of first but reverse works fine and it will not shift manually at all the pickup has a 4l60e transmission.

Ford Transmission :: 1989 F350 - Harder To Shift / Grinding Noise Like It Doesn't Want To Go In Gear

I have a 1989 F-350 7.3 IDI with a ZF-5 trans. Lately, I noticed that it was a little harder to shift my truck through gears while driving than it normally is, and when I'm stopped and try shifting into first gear or something it like vibrates and makes like a grinding noise like it doesn't want to go in gear. For a while, I've also had to push on the clutch very hard in order for it to I guess hit the linkage and start, but I never had problems shifting until lately.

Today though, I went to start my truck, I pushed on the clutch as hard as I could, and the switch would not engage so I couldn't start it. So, I guess the switch was farther to link than the pedal could possibly go. I went under the dashboard and engaged it by hand then it started. I drove home and the shifting was still iffy. How can I make the switch engage normally again so its closer I guess and so I don't have to push so damn hard on the clutch to get it to start? And could the switch linkage have anything to do with the shifting being funky lately, or could that only be the clutch itself?

Silverado :: 1997 4L60E Transmission - Truck Will Not Shift Into 2nd Gear While Driving

97 Silverado - 5.7 with 4l60e trans. truck will not shift into 2nd gear while driving. stays in first gear until rpm are high and shifts into 3rd. under hard acceleration will stay in 1st until let off gas then shift into 3rd. manual shifting results in same, no 2nd gear until selector is moved into 3rd then shifts into 3rd. Haven't got any trans codes, fluid change netted no change in performance, fluid was pretty dirty but didn't smell burned, and there were no metal shavings in pan.

I have a 98 chevy silverado c1500 extended cab has 5.7 350,and i think a 4L60E transmission. Driving around town my truck shifts fine, but when i get on the highway for a little while it will start jumping hard from 1st to 2nd, but if i kill the truck and start it back up it will usually shift fine.

Silverado :: 1989 - Sputtering On Acceleration?

I have a 89 chevy silverado with 380000 miles. It has the 5.7, 350 engine, 2 wheel drive , automatic. The past few days I've noticed when the engine is cold , the engine starts sputtering on acceleration. If I ease off the gas and let it accelerate slowly it seems to be okay. Once the engine is warms the problem is not present. I haven't checked anything as of yet but wanted to get some input so I'm not chasing and replacing things for no reason. I did a complete tune up about 7000 miles ago. Cap and rotor, plugs and wires, fuel filter and pvc valve, EGR valve, coil and fuel pump( only becasue my float has been sticking for years). I run the K&N air filter and I just cleaned it last month.

I did notice one item the past few months. When I open the passenger door after I get done driving I can smell gas. I thought it problably coming from the engine compartment air intake since it feeds from the passenger side.

Chevrolet - S-10 :: Transmission Shifting Through 1st And 2nd Gear Up To 30 Mph Then Will Not Shift Anymore

I have a 2002 Chevy S10 ZR2 4x4, the transmission will shift through 1st and 2nd gear up to 30mph then will not shift anymore. I have notice if you are easy on the gas you make get lucky to shift into 3rd, but the transmission downshifts to 2nd and only 30mph. I've tried shifting into 3rd manually, if the rpm is high it will not shift into 3rd but if they're low it will shift and if you press the accelerator just a little harder it will shift back to second and speed will drop to 30mph. I've changed transmission fluid and filter. The fluid was dark. I put DEX VI transmission fluid back in. Problem still exist.

I just have so much to explain and not sure how. I bought this truck from a person who bought this truck brand new in 2002. He was always kept the truck maintenance but he said he has never changed the transmission fluid. The truck has 276,000 miles but they are mostly highway miles from driving from NC to DC and back. I can assure you guys this truck hasn't been "dogged". I read one forum and someone said to changed the ignition switch wire harness. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I only seen one person say that and I'm not sure if it works.

Cavalier - Chevrolet :: Automatic Transmission - Clunk When Shift From Park To Drive

I have had a 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 liter 4 cyl Automatic for about 5 or 6 years now. I have noticed the whole time I have owned it that when I start the car and shift from Park to Drive I hear a clunk and the with the hood open the engine pivots back and forth one time more than it is supposed to. This only happens from park to drive, it does not do this from park to any other gears, and once the car is in drive everything is normal. The car has no shifting problems at all, no slips or clunking while driving or hitting the gas real fast on take off.

I changed the all three mounts on the car yesterday. Upper engine mount (still in decent shape), lower dogbone (tore to hell), and Transmission mount (decent). I really haven't noticed it get any worse over the years I just know its not right. I have never changed the fluid or the filter since I owned the car, and most likely it has never been changed in the cars life. Could a dirty filter, and dirty fluid cause this problem? Or could the linkage need adjusted or replaced?

Chevrolet - Impala :: 2002 - Transmission Was Loud And Taking Time To Shift - Can't Reverse

Ok so about a week ago I was driving my 02 impala and I heard a loud noise while driving at 30 mph and it lasted till about 50mph. well I had my dad take it down the road while I was at work about 5 days later to hear what the noise was wondering if it might have been a hub. Well I call him an hour later cause he ain't back he says he's at the gas station and it won't reverse. Well apparently the noise was just my transmission being loud cause it was taking a while to shift. I've never had a problem with my tranny but some leakage which I think is just the gasket I just know that theres tranny fluid under my pan on one side. So I went to auto zone and they got a code for p1811. So I'm wondering if it just needs a filter and gasket change or is my tranny gone. It still shifts into gears just takes longer in 2nd and I can't drive in reverse at all?

Ford Transmission :: 1989 AOD Transmission Stuck In Overdrive

My '89 Ford Crown Victoria Country Squire is a 5.0L with the AOD transmission. Yesterday, I slowed from 40 mph to 25 mph to turn on my street. As I drove up the street's slight incline I noticed the acceleration was sluggish as if the transmission had not downshifted from 4th to 3rd. When I stopped to back into my driveway, the engine shuddered and stalled as if it was hooked to a manual transmission and I had released the clutch with the shifter in an upper gear. My wife had to push the car into the driveway (she is a Minnesota farm girl ).

Now the engine starts normally with the gear selector in Neutral. It shudders and stalls the moment I try to put it in any gear or Park. The engine will not start in Park, but once again, balks as if I was trying to start a manual transmission equipped car without depressing the clutch or taking it out of gear.

The transmission and engine had been working perfectly before the above sudden problems. My guess is that the transmission is somehow stuck in overdrive.

Is there any way to knock it out of 4th gear? Why would the engine start in Neutral but not Park? It is the original AOD transmission with over 230K miles on it, but this car has at least nine lives and I am hoping this is another serious problem that turns out to be not so serious!

Chevrolet :: 1989 - Bog Down While Accelerating?

I own a 1989 Chevy Horizon Camper Van, a "camper" on a 1989 Chevy chassis, the "van part" of the camper is just like a normal 1989 Chevy G20 Automatic Van. About 2 weeks ago it started to "bog" down while accelerating, meaning it feels like the van is running out of gas although it is defiantly not out of gas. Also I put a new battery in two days ago because I had been having starting problems and somewhat hoping this would cure the other problems. It did not cure the problems and although I have not had to get a jump, the van is starting hard and the battery indicator on the dash is in between the dead line and the middle line. I also put in two cans of "Sea Foam" thinking there might be condensation in the gas line.

Honda - Accord :: 1989 LX 5-Speed Won't Shift Into First Gear

'89 Honda Accord LX Sedan 5-Speed, 266k miles...

Bought this car recently and it worked fine when I got it (the most perfect 22-year old car I've ever seen). Between then and now I've driven it a little. It's my first stick shift car, so I've stalled it a few times, ground the gears a little, etc. learning to drive it. Anyway, it now won't shift into first gear. It shifts fine and drives fine in all the other gears, the only problem is with first. It also shifts fine into all gears when the car is off.

On a side note (in case it pertains to this situation), the car takes a little while to warm up. For 5-10 minutes after it is turned on, it idles really fast and makes a horrid scratching noise and then stalls if put into reverse (don't know about first, since it won't go into first). Once the idling slows down, though, this problem goes away.

Nissan - Sentra :: 1989 - When Accelerate / Up Shift At Low Rpm It Bogs Down?

I have an 89 Nissan Sentra 4x4 wagon 5 speed. It only has 40,000 miles. When I upshift or try to accelerate at low rpms (1-2k) it bogs down a bit or feels like it might even be missing on a cylinder. I just replaced the spark plugs (correctly gapped) but not the wires, with no change. I also have been running fuel system cleaners in the gas with no change. Could it be as simple as the fuel filter?

Chevrolet :: 1989 G20 Van 4.3 Turns Over But Won't Start

It was running fine. tried to start and it just turns over. Also the fuel gauge doesn't move from an 1/8th of a tank. I took the filter line off, turned the key, and gas shoots out but the injectors don't spray at all. I poured some gas in the tbi and still just turns over without even trying to start.

Chevrolet - 3500 :: 1989 V8 - Stalled When Decelerating And Would Not Start

I have a '89 Chevy 350 v8 in my boat. It starts fine, but then stalled when decelerating, and would not start. I smelled some gas fumes when trying to start it after it had died. It started up fine the next day without problems. The distributor was just replaced so I know that is good. Not sure if this is related, but occasionally it will diesel a couple cycles when I turn it off. Could this be the carburetor, or something else?

Chevrolet - 1500 :: 1989 Truck Will Start But Not Run For More Than 30 Seconds

My truck hasn't run for over a year and no one seems to be able to tell me why. The fuel pump supposedly has 10 lbs of pressure, it has new fuel pump relay, new throttle body, and probably more new things (can't remember exactly). It will start up normally and then it will act like it's not getting fuel and within seconds die. If I keep my foot on the gas and kind of pump it (I know it's EFI) it will try to keep running, but will die, and it really gets rough toward the end like the whole engine's going to fall out. The truck has 300K+ on it but the engine was replaced about 10,000 miles ago. It still has a lot of original equipment.

Chevy Celebrity ... Engine is 2.8 mpfi and I have been able to get it to start by pumping the gas pedal while cranking and keeping it running by having the gas pedal depressed slightly but as soon as I let off the gas the car will die. It has a new starter, new fuel filter, half a tank of gas, new battery...

Check engine light came on and i did the paperclip trick and it showed code 43 which was knock sensor.

Astro - Chevrolet :: 1989 - Leaking Red Fluid Drips From U-joint?

My 89 Astro van is leaking red fluid when parked uphill (slightly) that drips from the u-joint closest to the transmission and only from the part that is in the yoke that goes into the transmission. I dropped the drive shaft thinking wrongly that there would be a bad seal where i thought the yoke went into i thought a second piece, but it is all one piece with a collar. When parked in the garage nice and level it did not seem to leak.
