I owned a 1980 Chevy Citation 4 cyl AT. Much is known about the rear brakes locking up with those with MT. There was a recall. On my automatic, however, the power brake assist would often fail resulting in a couple crashes for me. There was an investigation into this in 1983 but I can't find what the outcome was - what the actual culprit was.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 ex. 4x4 6.8 v10. I have been having vacuum issues and brake issues lately. My front brakes seem to be sticking, some times they drag some times the don't squeeze when I step on the brake causing uneven wear and pulling when I stop. Also feels like I have no power assist. I also have a vacuum issue with the auto setting on the hubs, they don't engage I have to manually lock them and sometimes my a/c stays on defrost. And my cruise control doesn't work, the light comes on and love done the self check but it doesn't show anything is wrong. Could I have a bad brake booster?
View 5 RepliesI have a 98 chevy astro thats been acting up alot these days! just a few eeks ago while checking tranny fluid it kinda smelt burnt. but topped it up anyway. mind you alot else is going on too. in the last year the horn has stopped working, the wipers work when they want to. the stereo stopped working. there was this wierd clicking noise that drained my battery, it was coming from this little black square looking thing under the dash on the drivers side, I removed it and it never happened agian. still haven't replaced it yet seeming as it ran fine without it. it wouldn't start when it was raining so considering the other electrical problems I was having I had a wire kit done on it and it didn't work. it turned out to be a cracked coil, which was replaced. just this last week the heater stopped working and now it started doing this this morning.

View 2 Replies1999 Chevy cavalier. Since 2010 Brake warning lights come on intermittently ABS, ETS (!)BRAKES, and traction. Brakes jerk the car forward a few shot times before car comes to a stop, car stops fine 90% of the time. Three different mechanics can not find anything wrong by looking at brakes and I'm lucky if they can drive it and have the problem happen which is basically every other day. New rotors were put on in 2010 twice first time they were warped, wheel cylinders replaced or whatever they do to them recently. Dealership said I needed new rotors I don't think they know.

View 4 RepliesMy parking assist does not work any more. red lights and and one tone front and rear when the car starts, after that I just get red lights going forward and red lights going in reverse. Any way to reset the whole system? I pulled the fuse but that didn't work.
View 3 RepliesDriving in heavy rain on the interstate, my park assist warning started signaling. I assumed it was the heavy rain affecting the sensors. However, later on local roads, I kept getting intermittent warnings, with only light rain coming down. It seemed to happen most during deceleration, when water would slide down the hood toward the front bumper. I'm guessing it has something to do with the sensors on the front bumper, possibly getting water in them.

It's now reached a point where none of the windows work at all - neither from the drivers switches nor from the switch in each door. I replaced the fuse, but that's as far as I've gotten. My question is: what should I check next?

I bought it with 77K it now has 138K and has had this problem since the day I got it... When accelerating it intermittently has no power from a stop. It has really high gears (like 3.42 or 3.73) as opposed to our farm truck which is an 05 2500HD which has 4.10's...
What happens is when I take off from stop, it will be a total dog off the line it doesn't matter if the tank is full or empty, truck is hot or cold, part throttle or WOT. Regardless it has no freaking acceleration. That is until you get to just before the shift point then the power comes back and it puts you in the back of your seat just like a 6.0 should. Then the truck shifts into second and has the normal amount of power.
I have had several local mechanics try to fix it, it has been given a tune up plugs wires filters etc. It has had the TB and MAF off and cleaned. Over the years the fuel pump and sending unit replaced etc. Over the years I have replaced the O2 sensors (with ac delco) both cats, IAC TPS crank positioning sensor, EGR and possibly others...
I have put a fuel pressure gauge on it but it never seems to have a problem when you have time to mess with it..
Possible other theories include but are not limited to: Fuel pressure regulator? some intermittent vacuum leak? partially collapsed lifter?
NO CEL, it runs smoothly though lately (last month or two) the idle is all over the place... tends to idle high... It has had a slight knock since I've owned it.. I had a theory that maybe the knock sensors were pulling power, but wouldn't that trigger a CEL?
My girl just purchased a 2012 GTI and noticed her brake assist is not active when at a complete stop. I have a 2011 GTI and my brake assist is active when releasing the brake and starting off in first gear. How I can activate this for her as she is still new at driving manual?

On our 2008 Prius, while the brake assist pump is running I get a steady thump-thump-thump-thump noise, as shown in the video below. If you put your foot on the brake the noise stops. The brakes operate fine and there are no warning lights on. What this might be? It's coming from the passenger side of the car, and oddly it's loudest under the car near the back seat. 86,000 miles on the car.

The pads are good, just bled the system using a power bleeder, controller is set to electric over hydraulic with max gain. Why I need to have the controller set to max?
View 14 RepliesAll of this happened at the same time so has to be related. The a/c system has no power, the brake lights and turn signals don't work, windows wont work, air bag light on. However, the park lights, head lights and hazards work fine. Starts and runs fine. All fuses check out ok. New battery as well.
View 3 RepliesI've got a 2005 F350 that i recently did balljoints, tierods and shocks/stabilizer on. Just stating that because i don't believe anything could be binding up to cause this.
If i am to take a left turn, more than 45 degrees, the truck will seem to lose power assist on the return to center and be very stiff when i return it by force until i jerk the wheel past center and let it come back the other direction and it seems to regain power assist.
Also, the steering is just generally bump. I have not driven a better condition 2005 to tell the difference but i'm sure this isn't the way it's supposed to be
I am not having any issue with braking force, as of yet. The first winter i got the truck i blew a power steering line that goes from the gear to the cooler, in which direction i don't know. It's been a year and a half since then so not sure that caused any failure.
Before this symptom the pump would whine when on left turns only, no problem turning right if i feel like doing right turns the rest of my days. I guess what i'm getting at is, does this sound like a bad pump? Bad gear? Both?
The other day I start my car in the garage. Backing out I know the brakes aren’t working normally. Testing in the driveway confirms that there is no power assist to the brakes. The engine is idling properly and there is no CEL or dash brake light lit, but there is non-power braking only. So I put the car back planning to work on it later.
Some two days later I start the car for testing and the brakes are back to normal. I have the usual power assist. There are no other problems.
Checking out my 2007 gasser this weekend an found that my third brake light does not work....no power to the socket. The cargo lights on either side of it in the same assembly work fine so I believe the ground to be intact. My question is does this light have it's own fuse? if not where should I start looking for the solution to my problem?
