I have a 95 Cherokee and dark smoke is starting to come out of the exhaust, but only when I make a u-turn. The Jeep is running fine, except for the smoke and I noticed the problem about two weeks ago. While the Jeep is running there is absolutely no smoke, but as soon as I make a u-turn a cloud of smoke comes out the back that smells like burnt rubber.

I take very good care of my car and recently started using supreme gas and synthetic oil. It runs very smooth and never really had any problems... should I be worried? Is this normal?
Yesterday I was driving my wife's Passat 2.0T and I floored it and I saw a dark cloud of smoke out the back. It didn't seem very normal... is it?
View 5 RepliesMy husbands jeep is driving him crazy. He drove it to work and started fine. Then went to start to come home. Nothing. No crank, no click, nothing. Towed home. Battery OK. Anyway, he put new starter on. Started up. I drove it to station. Got in to come home. Nothing. Same darn thing. We jumped it. Pushed it out of way. Started. It's done this many times. Let me say, though, he went through a huge amount of water before this happened. Gauges went nuts for a while. Don't know if this could've messed up a sensor. He's losing sleep over this.
View 1 RepliesAfter driving 2 hrs on the highway, my 2008 Kia Rio chugs and spits out dark smoke. Last month, shortly after this happened, while exiting the highway, the car lost power completely. I was out of town when this happened. The mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. He did a transmission flush and replaced the crank sensor. It is running again, but the chugging persists after driving 2 hrs on the highway! I am scared of being stranded again. I also think the car is burning oil, as it often is low, and it's not leaking, as far as I can see.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 105,000 miles. The transmission (or transfer case) recently started to make a clicking sound. It usually happens in 2 wheel drive mode and gets louder as the car warms up. the clicking sound occurs in all gears except park. It also gets faster with car speed. If the car is put into 4 wheel (full time) mode the sound seems to go away or is not as audible. When you shift back in 2 wheel drive mode the clicking sound comes back.
View 1 RepliesI have a 79 Camaro and I've gotten a new carb(2 bbl dueljet Rochester) and distributor on it. I got timing right I do believe. I have been having problems trying to get it to start. The car just cranks real fast( sounds like good timing) , but it did sputter out the tail pipe and it shoot out dark grey smoke the first couple times then stopped. I had someone try to start the car while I was near the front to listen and I heard an exhaust leak near the manifold. We fixed that but it still isn't starting. Now it just keeps turning over real fast and that’s it. I looked in carb and it’s getting gas, and it’s getting spark. I tried to mess with the carb a little to let it get more air in it. Didn't work, would I maybe have to open the carb a little more to get more air? How to get my car up and running again.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2001 echo with 140000kms on it, nothing ever has gone wrong with it. But I now have what sounds like a exhaust leak. I cant find any holes in the pipe anywhere. There is some dark residue that looks like it is coming from the exhaust manifold gasket. I replaced this but the sound continues. Do i need to get the manifold completely out of there and plane the mating surface of the manifold smooth. It looks really pitted right now?

Is it the black domed piece in the center of the dash board. Which is near the heat vent. I also need the part number so that I can order the part and get it replaced.
View 4 RepliesMy 2003 Lexus GX 470 radio will not turn off, its display is dark, the cd player will not eject and the radio channels do not change. The only way to turn down the sound is on the wheel.
View 4 Replies(1996 Jeep V8) Dealer lets me take a Jeep home to take it to my mechanic early the next day. First time I looked at it, it coughed a bit of blue smoke, then cleared up. There's 141K on the car. Called around, the general consensus seems to be possible valve guides.
In checking it out last night noticed it was very low on oil. I added a quart and drove it around for awhile. Didn't think to check for any emissions plus I was driving around by myself. This morning I had my wife start it while I stood behind to check for the first-thing smoke. It was there, but also would give a bit of smoke when revved up.
A single bit of smoke first thing on startup doesn't seem that bad, but every time I accelerate is a concern. Plus, does that make sense? Very little smoking when level is low? Should I be suspicious?
Replaced turbo stock with a wicked wheel. Truck smokes like crazy took turbo out rebuilt it and reinstalled in truck now truck pukes white smoke and has a of white smoke while idling. I don't get why. I've rebuilt injectors about two months ago. Truck is stock not bullet proofed at all. Truck has 170k head gaskets were done at 130k.
View 6 RepliesI have a Mazda Tribute, 2005, with clogged exhaust systems that make the EGR valves blow up. Definitely due to a problem with the exhaust system, but I can't find where it is. I've replaced one of the catalytic converters and checked the other, but it didn't work, my next guess is the muffler or the manifold. Engine occasionally misfiring due to a vacuum leak that prevented the intake manifold to provide even oxygen for full combustion. The extra gas when into the exhaust system a burnt up one of the cats and left a clog somewhere in the exhaust system. If is the other cat it's a $650 part.

View 1 RepliesI replaced a battery on a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee v6. It started and ran fine, but then in my infinite wisdom, I decided to remove the negative battery cable with the engine running to test the alternator. Some smoke started coming from the back of the engine, so I immediately killed it. It wasn't running for more than 5 seconds. When I started it again, it faltered, but the second time it started fine and ran fine, a little more smoke came out but stopped soon. it smelled like burning oil. We drove it around the block with no problems. I know it wasn't the alternator that was smoking because that's not where it was coming from, and I doubt it was the ecu because then it wouldn't run.
View 3 Replies1998 Jeep Cherokee sport ... My mechanic tells me that my #1 fuel injector is always spraying and that that is why the jeep runs rough. This is after he already told me that my injectors were clogged and needed to be replaced (which he did). When the car is idling for a while, the exhaust really begins to smell like gas, so this seems to make some sense to me, unlike his previous diagnosis. But now he is telling me that I need to replace the computer to fix this problem.
View 8 RepliesWhen I make a right hand turn with some G force both headlights aim at the ground. Coming out the turn they go back to there level position.
Both front and rear leveling arms are connected and it's not throwing any codes.
The car is lower than stock but Its been like that for 3 years and this just started. It doesn't happen on left had turns. Dealer is stumped.
My 1997 Saturn SL2 has run so great until now. It has 150,500 miles on it. I drove home Tuesday, parked. Wednesday morning, it would not start. Would not turn over, or make any sound at all. We have determined it is not the battery or alternator, so we thought it was the starter. I got a starter and we installed it yesterday. Turned the key and still absolutely nothing. (same as before.) We've looked at all the fuses and they all look fine, but we switched some around of the same type and still no difference. The headlights, interior lights, radio, and everything work when I turn the key, just no crank. What else could it be? I'm so broke I can't tow it to a car parts place to have a diagnostic hooked up.

View 8 RepliesI replaced my exhaust manifold gasket, which also required replacing the cat and flange gaskets. For the first hour or so when I first fired up the engine, there was smoke coming from all three gaskets and i though "I'm such a loser. They are all leaking".
Today I looked and they don't seem to be doing that anymore. Was that just the gaskets curing or something? My fingers couldn't tell if anything was coming out of the seems. How do you definitively determine if there are any small leaks? Do I need IR goggles or something?
Also, looks like I need to replace the pipe between cat 1 and and what appears to be cat 2.
