yesterday my 89 century's speedometer stopped working. check engine light stays on. able to drive it yet but feels like it's in a lower gear. has no get up and go. Tranny has been slipping from 2nd to 3rd for a while. I think it might be the speedometer sensor. if it is the sensor will I get some power back?
View 1 RepliesI just bought an 89 century custom coupe it has had it's fuel pump & filter changed before I got it. The problem is a gas smell after I run it for a while and shut it off. their is no gas smell when its been sitting for awhile.
I have checked the clamps on the filler tube and they needed to be tightened did that. but still has the gas smell. What's causing this ?
I have the GM shop manual and I have gone through the flow chart for an engine which cranks but does not start. I have confirmed that there is fuel pressure and spark, but the injectors do not fire when cranking. I have gotten to the final troubleshooting step of disconnecting the crank angle sensor connector, jumping A and B terminals on the connector, and momentarily grounding the jumper with a test light. The injectors fire as confirmed using the GM injector test light (in place of an injector). The flow chart conclusion is that the crank angle sensor is bad or misadjusted or the connector is making a bad connection. I have replaced the sensor twice and adjusted it using the GM adjustment tool. The connector terminals appear clean and undamaged. 1989 Buick Century 3.3 liter ...

View 4 RepliesMy 1994 century won't shift, the speedometer shows 0, my 97 service manual shows the transmission won't shift without speed input, trouble code 502, low speed sensor input, changed the speed sensor but the problem persists. I could only find 2 fuses in the front passenger side under the hood with relays in front of them, the fuses are good, all the fuses in the glove box are good, I still believe it's a fuse problem. is there a fuse on the speedometer? the speedometer is analog, not fluorescent.
View 4 RepliesI've got an '03 Century with some "issues." There are times when the dashlights work, and times when they don't. At first I thought the issue was with the headlight switch itself due to the fact that the dashlights were operational with the "auto-on" feature; but it seems that is not the case.
I can turn the lights on, and the headlights themselves will operate, but not the dashlights. Just today, I turned on the lights using the switch, and had dash, lights, but on the way to work, I lost them. It's not just the main dash that goes black, but all of the lighting lit by the headlights being turned on.
I recently put in a new compressor and accumulator. I didn't change the orifice tube since it is almost impossible to get to. I added freon and oil with dye and it would work fine sporadically sometimes it wouldn't get cold at all other times it would be freezing. This lasted about a week. I noticed that when it was hot the clutch was engaging fully but I felt the pipe near the firewall and it wasn't cold as if the compressor wasn't compressing and then it would start compressing and it would get cold. The compressor sounds different when it was making the car cold. This led me to rule out a problem in the air control doors. Now there seems to be a leak which is bad since it runs out almost immediately. The problem is finding it since there isn't any oil residue or freon dye where I can see.
(Looking for some shortcuts where I don't have to remove the vacuum brake, brake booster to change the orifice tube?)
I drive a 2001 Buick Century. Sometime last month (or maybe the month before), my digital odometer was on the fritz. There's a little sub-partition to my dash that houses my digital odometer as well as the indication as to what gear i'm in (PRND32). So it started fading a little, then on some days it wouldn't light up at all. I know the odometer is still working, because on the days when it would light up, it didn't pick up where it left off, rather it had been working the whole time I couldn't see it. And this started going in and out more and more frequently until now it hasn't lit up in about a month.
So, i take my car into my mechanic for an oil change (just had to guess at how close i was to 3,000 miles) and I ask him about it. He tells me that it'd cost so much in time and parts that I might as well not even fix it.
So now what? I'm fine just driving around without it. I know what gear I'm in without my car having to tell me, and I guess I can just estimate when to get my oil changed, although it's rather inconvenient. But what do I do when I want to sell it or trade it in? The longer I go without knowing my mileage, the farther afield an estimate will be.
You know, what I was thinking is that I really just need someone to run a red light and total my car. Then insurance would cover me and the odometer would be low on my list of worries. I just hope the airbags still work...
I have a 2001 Buick Century which is more or less reliable. Last year the fan stopped working on the first (low) setting, but continued to work on levels 2-5. Air came out of all of the vents, using the fan, A/C, or heat with no problems. A few days ago, level 2 stopped. The next day levels 3 and 4 stopped. The fan still works on the highest setting, but it's just starting to be summer in Minnesota and I'm worried that level 5 will stop on the hottest day of the year. Is this a simple fuse problem I can fix myself? Complicated repairs are probably beyond me, but I can do basic repairs.

As I was driving, I pressed the brake pedal down and it felt like I lost most if not all of the pressure in the brake system and it was a bit difficult to come to a complete stop for the rest of the trip.
I admit that the system hasn't been maintained in quite some time, but I recently filled up the brake fluid reservoir (2-3 weeks ago) after the brake dashboard light came on and the brakes worked just fine after this.
What is wrong with my car, and how do I fix it as cheaply as possible (or is it a cheap fix?)?
I have a 2000 Buick Century. The wiper controls are all goofy. The delay seldom ever works, just goes into slow steady speed most of the time. And they go through several more cycles when wipers are shut off. No doubt some entire multifunction module will have to be replaced.
View 8 RepliesI have an 89 f250 7.3. horn has not been working for the longest time the relay clicks but still nothing. It doesn't matter weather the key is in the on or off position. I know it might be a grounding problem because the cruise control does not work any more (even though recently it was working just fine). I didn't see any bad fuses.

View 6 RepliesMy 1999 Dodge Durango Speedometer went out so I replaced the speed sensor and it still doesn't work. The speedometer will come on after every once in a while but it doesn't seem to work below 40mph. My abs light and brake light are also constantly on.
View 7 RepliesI have an 08 Camry that appears to be having the problems associated with the ABS module (intermittent A/C, speedometer not working, etc.).
I've picked up a module/pump from a junkyard. Excuse my ignorance, but the module itself (black portion), does not have any fluid circulating through it? If I'm just swapping that, there is no need to bleed the ABS or perform any programming?
My speedometer on my '02 Honda Civic was working, then not working. Now it doesn't work at all. I replaced the VSS, and it still isn't working. There are over 150K miles on the car. I read somewhere that it could be the alternator, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me?

I drive a 2004 Hyundai Accent, base model. My speedometer isn't working at all. I have tested the speedometer motor in the instrument cluster. I have tried replacing the transmission speed sensors - both input and output. The speedometer still isn't working. What am I missing?
